...Since the beginning of time, the term power resonates on the way one controls or leads. However there is a distinctive difference in how one uses power and abuses power. Sadly, in the Penn State sex abuse scandal they both become one in the same. The Penn State sex scandal abuse was incident in which Jerry Sandusky, who was a former assistant football coach for Penn State. Sandusky was charged and convicted of multiple counts of sexual abuse of children. Sandusky would victimize his victims through his charity organization, The Second Mile. The Second Mile was a charity designed to help disadvantage boys from dysfunctional and broken homes but instead Sandusky had other plans. How rare and valuable can good leadership be in a Beuarcracy? Why didn’t leadership at Penn State take action for Sandusky’s behaviors? Using Max Weber’s Beauracracy Theory in this paper I will discuss organization behavior and what could have or should have been done to avoid the situation. How rare and valuable can leadership be in a Beuaracracy? Based off of Max Weber, he believed that a B was a type of administrative structure developed through rational-legal authority. Weber felt that the most important problem was not inefficiency or mismanagement but the increased power of, officials. (quote) His main view of a B was the system based on discipline. A Buearactic organization can be considered rational and that leads to efficiency. Efficiency in an organization comes through rationality and predictability...

...“Give a Child a Helping Hand” Intervention Methods For Child Sexual Abuse Introduction Child sexual abuse has severe and long lasting implications for the victim while being historically unreported and unaddressed. Child abuse is difficult to identify because there is a lack of consensus across many sectors of healthcare about which “acts” are defined as abuse. One study outlines the associated interpersonal characteristics (such as boundary violations, betrayal, sexual traumatization, stigma, and secrecy) result in developmental consequences not associated with other forms of maltreatment (Noll). This is due to the highly stigmatized nature of the abuse and the multiple barriers that exist that are both individual and systemic in nature. There are many types of intervention options that are conflicting in nature; some promote a clinical setting while others tout community-based approach involving many types of adults in raising awareness. Studies show that cumulative exposure to multiple forms of victimization represents a substantial source of mental health risk and costly health care costs from high utilization rates. There is a $103.8 billion cost of child abuse and neglect of more than $33 billion in direct costs for foster care services, hospitalization, mental health treatment, and law enforcement while indirect costs of over $70 billion include loss of productivity, as well as expenditures related to chronic health...

...When I first learned that sex could be used as a healing tool, I thought these people are crazy. How could something that has caused me so much pain lead to my healing. It’s easy to understand why I would feel this way everything I knew of sex left me feeling shameful and made me want to jump out of my skin. Little did I know that this had nothing to do with sex itself but rather the abuse of sex and the power it holds. My story is very similar to most abuse victim so i’ll spare you all the details, but I will tell you that I was sexually abused at the age of 1 and this left me broken from pretty much the start of my life. I never had a healthy relationship with sex. To me all I knew of sex was that is was something that was demanded and...

...Men and women are expected to respond to animals differently based on gender stereotypes. Although there are always exceptions, human behavior varies based on factors such as culture, biology, and upbringing. I also believe that the relationship you have with animals may be a factor in how emotional, or non-emotional you may feel towards towards animal related topics such as animal abuse. Many different reachers and psychologists have conducted numerous theories to seek out the answer to the infamous question are “human sex differences a result of nature or nurture?” We still have yet to find a definitive answer. “Some psychologists have found that some sex differences show up so early that they are unlikely to be the result of socialization.” This is also true of our closest animal relative the monkeys that exhibit similarities in toy preferences with human children. The female and male monkeys likes, dislikes, and fears mirrored that of human infantas and children. Oxytocin also plays a role in the human-animal bond, although studies are not definitive, levels of oxytocin are shown to increase after people interacted with animals. In a similar study, males and females had their hormone levels assessed after interacting with animals and it was discovered that hormone levels fluxuated after the interaction. Males in particular were more likely to be aggressive and less empathetic when testosterone levels were high, and the opposite effect when low. Hunting is often associated...

...in almost all areas, be it social, cultural, economic or educational. An effective remedy for these evils needs to be sought in order to ensure the Right to Equality guaranteed by the Constitution of India, to the fairer sex. Gender equality facilitates the empowerment of women. Since education begins at home, the upliftment of women would be accompanied by the development of the family, the society and in turn, would lead towards a holistic development of the nation.Among these problems the foremost that needs to be addressed is the atrocity committed against females at birth and during childhood. Female infanticide i.e. killing of the female child is still a common practice in many of the rural areas. Further female foeticide is common in some parts of India, despite the passage of ‘Prenatal Diagnostic techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act in 1994. In case they survive, they are subjected to discrimination throughout their lives. Traditionally, since sons are thought to take care of their parents during old age and daughters are considered a burden because of dowry and other expenses that have to be incurred during their marriage, female children are neglected in the matters of nutrition, education and other important aspects of well-being. The Sex...

...“I am woman, hear me roar”. What is the definition of a woman? How do we as members of society, decide what that definition is? Where do these definitions come from? Are they our opinions? Or are they designed by others and transmitted subconsciously to us through various forms of media? The recognition granted to women specifically in the United States is embarrassingly low in comparison in accordance to what we as Americans like to believe. Media coverage is rarely ever focused on women. However, when a female is featured in media, it’s hardly in a positive light. The media contrives and distorts the perception we have on women to present them as sex symbols, basing all importance upon their beauty. One must occasionally think to themselves, “Why does this happen? Why in society do we place a woman’s worth on her appearance?” The sad truth of the matter is: We live in a world completely controlled by men. Alternatively, those doesn't mean only men are at fault, even women pick at each other; telling others what they should and shouldn't do or be. America likes to believe that we’ve come so far in the fight for gender equality. Those who believe this are not only wrong, but ignorant to the true workings of society. In an ideal “Golden Age” it was believed the household was ruled by matriarchy (ANU). However, in what we consider history today, women are always taking a supporting role; sometimes even when they are the main focus. There are many idea as to why women have been...

...Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Psychiatric Association-… concluded [in 2000] that “the data point overwhelmingly to a casual connection between media violence and aggressive behavior in some children” (Anderson, Craig and Bushman, Brad 11-12). This comes from the fact that male and female equality has gotten much worse; most women are being viewed as something they are not when they are referred to as “bitches” or “sluts”. When this sort of name calling escalates it can lead to greater things such as a verbal or even physical fight, “Recent large-scale longitudinal studies provide converging evidence linking frequent exposure to violent media in childhood with aggression later in life, including physical assaults and spouse abuse” (Anderson, Craig, Berkowitz, Leonard, Donnerstein, Edward, Huesmann, Rowell, Johnson, James, Linz, Daniel, Malamuth, Neil, and Wartella, Ellen). On the show Jersey Shore, which has become very popular among youths lately, shows that beating up someone or verbally harassing someone is the only way to resolve a disagreement....

...Heterosexual and homosexual parenting does not differ. In general the children face the same difficulties. Sexual orientation doesn’t matter and same sex parents are able to provide the child with same needs as homosexual parents would. Comparing male fathers to lesbian social mothers, females generally tend to display more affection creating a more caring environment for the child, but could this methodology of having a more caring environment be created in gay parenting? Or are males not responsive to this style of care giving? The sample was exclusively European (specifically Dutch) which presents lesbian parents in a more open environment then Canadians for example. Lesbian parents would therefore be more confident in disclosing their parenting styles and discussing their home environment. But would having a video camera also have an effect on behaviors of both parent and child? Could it be the lesbian parents would try harder to provide a “perfect image” rather than a natural one, given that the society might place higher pressure on same sex parents? Physical punishment is not an effective tool for disciplining children as studies show it is associated with behavioral problems. Could these results be influenced by other factors (socioeconomic status, parental relationships etc.). The article suggests that the criminalization of physical punishment can be implemented in light of the fact that there is little evidence to support the method. Is criminalizing all levels...

This could easily be a false accusation or Todd could have had sex with Amy without her full or conscious consent. I feel that a resolution to the situation that would be fair to all parties would be to learn from this matter. They both were being irresponsible; Amy could have monitored her drinking better and Todd could have called campus police for assistance in getting Amy home. Both of them should bare minimum have to speak with a campus counselor. This situation could also allow either of them to participate in some awareness classes whether they be alcohol awareness or sexual abuse/discrimination awareness classes. This could even drive Amy (or Todd if he felt so inclined) to maybe start a club/group on campus for other females and even males who feel they have been a victim of rape or participated in over consumption of alcohol leading to questionable decision making skills. Amy’s school seemed to react in the correct manner. Once campus police was contacted Amy had been taken to the hospital shortly after to be examined by a professional and have a rape kit performed and be tested for illegal drugs. The tests proved that she did have sex and there were no illegal drugs in her system; the case was then taken to court to allow a judge to provide a verdict. Their findings were that although men were increasingly being sexualized throughout the cover timeline, overall, women were experiencing more, 10x more to be exact. Nauert concluded that the problems created by the over sexualization allow for more opportunities of violence towards women because women have been given the status of sexual object and submissive. Sexual harassment in the workplace and in the community has also elevated. It also gives unrealistic expectations for females and therefore women and men are open for disappointment. What he tries to illustrate through many examples is that women’s experiences and opinions are linked with how they are perceived in society. Clymer uses Angelina Jolie’s public announcement of her double mastectomy to further his point that even though she was courageously making...
