Statement of Purpose

Growing up in a small-populated town and attending a small-attendance high school with little to no resources, made some 1988 graduates from Woodland High School feel there would be no education for them after high school. However, there was a counselor at the school who saw beyond the graduates’ sight and advised them of many opportunities, along with financial assistance, to assist in pursuing an education beyond high school.

After graduating from high school, I became pregnant. I was considered a statistic to some, but to me, and my support system (my family), it only meant that I would have to work just a little harder than the others who were not carrying the load of a child.

I applied, was accepted to, and attended Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana pursuing a B. S. degree in Accounting. Although times were hard for me, I managed to graduate with the degree of my desire (B.S. in Accounting), in December of 1994. Not only did I graduate, but I was immediately employed at the University in the Comptroller’s Office as an Accounts Payable Specialist. I remained employed in the Comptroller’s Office until I was later hired in the LS-LAMP Office on the same campus. For a total of 5 (five) years, I worked in my field at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Due to circumstances with my second child, I had to relocate and later became employed outside of my field. I haven’t worked directly in the Accounting field since. However, I have begun to launch my own Small Business. I chose to come back to Southern University, because this is the school that I am familiar with and loved the entire time I was there. I always had plans to come back, but was always tied down with my children. Now that my daughter is older (14 years old), I can begin

Group Research Project One Global Logistics Management Executive Summary Sher-Wood is one of Canada’s most respected most innovative market and valuable brand in the hockey equipment industry founded in 1949 with its headquarters located in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Sher-Wood Hockey has multiple viable opportunities for reaching new demographics, market expansion, and lowering manufacturing costs for the hockey stick sector of the company. In 2013 Canada cut import tariffs and duties on hockey gear between 2.5% and 18%, this reduction causes the landed costs of importing to decrease. ...Case brief and overview: Sher-Wood (formerly Sherwood-Drolet) has been a well-known Canadian hockey equipment manufacturer since 1949 (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p. 23), predominantly specialising in wooden sticks for players from the National Hockey League down to players at the junior level. Sher-Wood also produces composite sticks, albeit at a much lower volume. Whilst hockey stick production has traditionally been based in North America, over the last decade there has been a significant shift towards global sourcing in the industry (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p.21). This has been driven by a desire to access low-cost factors of production, secure cheaper material resources, and ultimately gain a competitive advantage. Sher-Wood’s competitors and industry leaders such as Reebok-CCM, Bauer and Warrior began outsourcing majority of their stick production both on and off shore in the early millennium years. Sher-wood followed suit in 2006, contracting production of its lower end and custom-made wooden sticks to producers in Estonia and China, and outsourcing production of its flagship wooden stick (the PMP 5030) to a local service provider in Victoriaville, Quebec (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p.23).
