...that bunnies are the best, or that you should compare yourself against the person you were yesterday. I believe in something different, and something tough. I think that no matter how hard, no matter how taxing, you should never give up. Some people may want to give up when exercising or doing homework, but this is not the right answer. I am here to say that you should never give up if you want to do well. I chose this topic to be my This I Believe essay because it really means something to me, and I will show that in the rest of this speech. I have had many experiences teaching me to never give up, but the best ones are in sports. I wrestle and play water polo, and they both are physically exerting sports, with tough exercises and games. Also, I have had experiences in school and other places showing me the value of working through tough times, even if it is emotionally or mentally challenging. I want to teach people that you should not give up, no matter the challenges, no matter the threat, because once you have started something, you must see it through....

...especially this time of year I think the heat could be turned up a little bit more! I have a hard time believing it is the "most urgent possible disaster that could hit us" any time soon and that we need to give our full attention to it. I watched all about it on History channel this last weekend and even the clips and photo's that they show do not convince me that it is the #1 concern that society and the world should have. I personally believe that it is just "big business." And those who are capitalizing on it...know it! Now, I don't mind recycling and simple stuff like that, but I won't give up my candy apple red convertible GT and drive an ugly car loaded with batteries that looks like my sons shoes going down the highway! ...Do you think chavis should’ve been able to come back? I don’t because what he did hurt his coaches and teammates and it cost him to go to the youth pennatinry because he did drugs. But when he did come back he started off bad for example he started a fight with money and it caused money to walk out. He was suspended for fifteen months and he talked to coach bill every day to see if he could come back to the football team if he didn’t mess up again with the drugs and he didn’t use them any. He got in an argument with the assistant coaches and coach bill asked him what happen and he said nothing and kept walking away. The only reason the coaches let him return is so he could try to become a good person and try to do better with his life because...

...Looking at the title of this poem gives me an imagination of what the poem might talk about. My perception when I see the title is that it means love, attention, or advice of a mother to her son. Well, we know that the figure of a mother is really important in a family. She is the one who has given birth. Pure love, great attention or care, and wise advice come from a mother. So, Mother to Son may describe about it. Then, I begin to go deeper seeing the dramatic situation which occurs in this poem. I consider that the speaker is a mother who tries to tell something to her son. It is clear, I think, and it also can be seen at the first line of this poem. I suppose that the poem tells about the advice of a mother to her son. In the first line shows an effort of a mother to advise her son. I imagine when I am in trouble or make mistakes; indeed, my mother will try to give me advice in order to cheer me up or encourage me. It also appears in this poem. Going to other lines explain the hardship of her life, and in the second line up to seventh of the poem attempts to portray her suffering in life. It seems she has faced very tough struggle. I can utter it because I see in the second line she describes her life as no crystal stair. I picture the words no crystal stair as though her experience in life which is not sparkling and luxurious like crystal. In addition, stair is the foothold for us to stand before we step higher to reach the top, I guess. She must have not only trouble but...

...for the love and presence of God there are people that are homeless and hungry. I take drives in the early morning on the weekends frequently into downtown Denver in Colorado where I live and I see our streets crowded with homeless people. As I drive I observe many sitting on the ground in the cold weather, their clothes are ripped and dirty. Beside them is either a grocery cart full of items that they have collected from the trash or bags packed with clothes, food, and other items that they have collected from the homeless shelters or the trashcan that they rummaged through to eat to survive. I noticed some just sit there with a blank stare on their faces wondering off into the distance with their mind. Some are trading the collectibles that to them are of...

...Homework and Testing 1 Homework and Testing Assigning Homework How much is too much? As with classroom assignments, homework should never be given as busy work. It should have a purpose with a goal. And as I mentioned in the Behavioral Approach to Learning, homework should NEVER be given as punishment. The kid will associate homework with punishment. This may interest you. Harris Cooper (1998) analyzed more than 100 research studies on homework in American schools. He found that homework had a very small connection with test scores at the elementary level. If anything, the more homework an elementary school student had, the more negative their attitude was toward school. Plus it takes away from their social time, which is an important part of growing up. Kids need to learn social skills. Too much homework causes stress, as you probably know very well by now. Kids need to have down time too! Why does homework have such a small effect at the elementary level? One reason is that young children have limited attention spans and are very distractible. It is difficult to do homework in a house that has many distractions. Teachers need to work with parents and help students find a quiet space to do homework. Most professional organization in education agrees that homework should never exceed 10 - 20 minutes per day in grades K - 2. In grades 3 - 6 homework should never exceed 30 - 60 minutes per day. Another reason elementary school children do not benefit much from homework is because...

...to come up are 3 of (diamonds), 4♣ 9♠. • The next card to come up is 10 of (diamonds). You and your opponent have both already bet $24,000 into the pot each. Your opponent now adds $10,000 to the pot. You only have $10,000 left in total. While you consider what to do, your opponent, in an effort to rattle you, reveals his down cards. They are 10♣ 10♠. The Problem Should you call his bet by tossing the rest of your money into the pot, or should you fold and give up the pot to your opponent? Remember your opponent has at least a pair of 10s. What cards could come up to make your hand better? What could come up to make your opponent’s hand better? Is there any way you could tie each other? Also look at the expected value of the game. If you fold, you are assured a loss of $24,000. Make sure this fact is used in your analysis. I would simply solve my problem by going all in and betting the $10,000.00 that I have left. I would be a winner should the next card be an eight (8) because a straight which is five (5) cards in a row (in this case 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10) beats a 3 of a kind (my opponent’s three 10’s). Another reason I would not fold is because if the next card that comes up is a diamond I would also be a winner. I would then have a flush (which is five cards of the same suit), which wouls also beat my opponents three (3) of a kind. My opponent could perhaps beat my flush if the ten (10) of diamonds was not down yet because even if the ten (10) would give me a flush...

...The decision to purchase a home is one of the most important decisions a person can make. A person should think about the decision and analyze every aspect that comes along with it, prior to the medium of exchange. The economy should be a major thought in the decision making process. The economy is not in the best shape, so to know if the decision to purchase a home is the right one a person must analyze his or her situation and a weigh his or her options. In addition, a home comes with some serious consequences if the owner cannot meet the terms of the agreement. Every person looking to purchase a home will be different; however, they face the same challenges in this economy and the same reasoning. I believe a person should be educated on purchasing a home and know his or her options. Knowing all options that are available is important because it can possible reduce, the output a person has to pay. For example, there are first time buyer programs. HUD options, and loan types (fixed or an adjustable rate mortgage). Being educated about purchasing a home can make a difference between a good loan and a bad one, receiving the best rate and being happy with the purchase. Once the person analyzes his or her situation a decision to purchase a home can be made. The reward to owning a home is accomplishment; however there are consequences that a person must face if he or she does not make their mortgage payment. When a person makes a decision to purchase and have done the...

...It’s hard to build a family relationship and also work on having a good education and career. Balancing between both will be a struggle for some people. I want my life to be fair and balanced between my family and career. I’m single right now but for sure I’m planning on getting married in a couple of years and having kids in the future, I’m planning on having two to three kids maximum so I can provide them with a good life whether if its education wise, money wise, or family wise. In addition I want to balance between my family and give them the time they need and my career life to be a good mom who’s fair between her being a good mom and a successful women in her career. I believe that the mindset corporate America conducive to the type of work and family because most jobs have flexible schedules. Also they have holidays off, days off some of them have their weekends off let’s not forget the vacations that most jobs have for their employee for a week or two that are already paid for. However, all this depends on what kind of a job the person is having. Let’s say doctors most likely will not be able to spend a lot of time with their families as much as a business manager who could go in anytime and leave anytime. The United States should assist mothers and fathers during the mother’s pregnancy time. Some companies give the mother two months off work for maternity. The mother needs time to spend with her newborn and also to relax. That maternity time is for her to start...

...Children should experience the values of playing in a competitive sport. Playing a competitive sport at a younger age will benefit the child in the future with either the mental learning of confidence or physical advantage that can give them many opportunities to becoming successful. Children learn discipline, striving for challenges, working with others and it build s confidence. Sports give the child an activity to do and not being influenced by troubling distractions that come as they get older. Children learn more at a younger age and can give them a better advantage when competing in sports. Parents encouraging their children to get involved in competitive sports are giving them an early learning path of life skills. Discipline is an important factor when playing a sport and teaching a child this at a younger age gives them the advantage of learning responsibility. Kathiann Kowalski writes, “To do well, they must work hard and follow instructions. ‘The coach can see who's been trying their hardest’ said Mark of Bay Village, Ohio ” (17). Children can learn that rules and instructions that are followed can bring a better understanding of the game and teach them that other set rules they are given should be followed as they would if playing a sport. Competitive sports give children a way to challenge themselves in wanting to do their best. I grew up playing several sports and striving to be the best. My parents encouraged me to think of each time I played that it was my last...
