Walter Cunningham and Burris Ewell both live in poverty, but they take the situation in different ways. Walter’s family knows that they aren’t the wealthiest family in world but they don’t mope around about it. “The Cunninghams never took anything they can’t payback - no church baskets and no scrip stamps”(Lee 26), this shows that they don’t want to rely on anybody else and want to provide for themselves. Another thing would be how Walter knows when to look nice and clean, like the first day of school. While the Cunninghams take care of themselves, the Ewells have yet to pick themselves up.
