...Great leaders are not born, they are made. There are many personal and professional qualities that come together to create a leader with great skills. While a person may not be naturally endowed with all of the leadership skills needed to be a great leader, they can be learned. A starting point to evaluate one’s leadership skill level is to take a personal inventory of your current leadership skills. Based upon the information provided from your inventory, you can identify areas where additional learning is needed. The mark of any good leader is having the ability to acknowledge that they do not know everything and that they have room to grow and improve. My personal inventory of leadership skills and competencies, obtained through the completion of a leadership skills quiz, resulted in a score of 76 out of 90. The results of the quiz were broken down into three major leadership components. They were personal characteristics, emotional...

...Prior to taking the Nurse Manager Skills Inventory assessment, I thought I was prepared and ready to be a nursing leader for my hospital. However, the inventory assessment threw me in a completely new direction on things that I need to learn, things I have to improve upon, and things that I have to start thinking about before becoming a nurse leader. I plan on having a new positon as soon as I am done with my next class and I graduate, and with the new positon I had been planning on taking an initiative and ownership of various roles and skills which I currently do not think about. I intend on becoming an advocate for my fellow nurses, health care personnel, and patients, and from the Nurse Manager Skills Inventory I learned that I am just not ready to do this as much as I thought. I started going through the financial portion, and realized that I didn’t have the experience or mindset that is required to become a nursing leader. While this doesn’t mean that I cannot learn these skills, I plan on starting to learn them now, and to change my mindset to begging thinking more like a nurse manager in terms of financial elements. I have not thought of things before like recruiting except for the fact that we always need more nurses and we are short staffed. A nursing leader must think in terms of recruitment and retaining nurses at the same time. I know very little when it comes to economic planning or health care costs and accounting for money As well, I realized how little I know...

Skilled Leaders are critical to the success level of any venture, both profit and non-profit. This was validated in the research Jim Collins and his team conducted for his book, Good to Great. They confirmed that the most successful organizations had skilled Transforming Leaders at the helm. (Jim Collins called them Level 5 Leaders.) Our research, however, has shown that fewer than 1 in 10 professionals (as observed in video-taped assessment sessions) have competency in the whole range of skills to Level 4 competency (scores of 7 to 8). And even fewer individuals have the abilities—Level 5 competency, scores of 9 to 10—to teach others the skills outlined...

...Introduction Reminiscing at the first week of this class, we completed an assignment that tested each students’ strengths and weaknesses. The Transferable Skills Inventory (TSI) is acquired expertise from experience. The purpose of taking the TSI test is to recognize areas of improvement and then apply it in the workplace. This week, I will be discussing Convey, and one of his strategies that helped me develop my overarching question throughout the past seven weeks. Further, I will explain the relevance of the proactive approach in the circle of influence as a healthy individual. Briefly summary of chosen habit The problem I will be addressing relates to the direct control of the Circle of Influence. As Convey stated, “Proactive people concentrate their efforts in the Circle of Influence. They work on the things they can do anything about. The nature of their energy is positive, enlarging and magnifying, causing their Circle of Influence to increase (p.83).” Proactive people use a specific language by saying I will do, I can do better than that, I will start the project (self-initiated), and I will take care of my health. In other words, proactive people manage...

...for a vacation to Rome. However, those discussions would always involve their packing of lunches. In this case they average out that they require 40 lunches each month. They also estimated that having lunch outside would cost them around 15$ each whereas lunch packed from home averaged to about $5 each. By this estimation they also concluded that that the latter was more nutritious and healthy when compared to outside lunches. By having home made lunches they would save $4800 a year which is enough for a 10 day trip to Rome. They talk to each other to make a serious commitment towards packing lunch from home. Brian employs the concept of "Inventory control and reorder point" for their lunch packing from home which he had learned in his class. This concept would help them on how much inventory they have to keep to avoid running out. In between their conversation Tonya reminds Brian that packing lunch from home is not always possible as sometimes they might be having some lunch meetings and at times for a change they might want to have lunch outside. Taking this into consideration Brian concludes that they can have have a lunch meeting once in a week however, this would effect their planned out savings amount as it would come down to $3840. Tonya says that even $3840 would be sufficient for their trip to Rome. Brain then explains Tonya on how they can improve their process. Brian categorizes their lunch into three microwaveable, leftovers and freshly...

Introduction: Strategy for Competitive advantage: Strategic differentiations of services Business process to improve: Supply/Inventory Management II. With the institution of technology comes the requirement of familiarization and training for the users, subsequently, time and training is also an associated cost. The end state is that IT will give a real time read of what you have and what you need and the best place to buy from taking into consideration quantity, best price, shipping cost and shipping time as well as product use statistics. Reorder levels should be evaluated and adjusted using statistical data. Solicited supplier data will be used for making cost conscious supply purchasing decisions. Cost management...

...JUST IN TIME (JIT) ADVANTAGES OF JIT 1) Lower stock holding All manufacturing units aim at one thing, which is to minimize the expenditure that related to the ordering and carrying out inventory. The company should order only that much inventory, no more no less or hold no inventory which is needed to carry on their immediate production. So the company should not store any extra inventory that is needed in the production since it will incur an additional carrying cost. As soon as goods are finished, it should be shipped to the customer immediately without any delay in order to minimize the warehouse costs where the goods are placed. 2) Better customer satisfaction Implementing the Just-in-Time inventory management model can allow firms to serve their customers faster and more efficiently. By using Just-in-Time (JIT) model, the company can have a better control over the manufacturing process, making it easier to respond quickly when the needs of customers change where the company can cut the production of one product type and switch it to a different type product to meet changes in customer demand. According to Bonnie Conrad, a computer manufacturer that use JIT inventory control model can quickly increased the production of a hot model, while reducing the number of outdated products. 3) Elimination of waste “The seven waste” 7Ws introduced by Toyota’s Chief Engineer Taiichi Ohno as the core of the Toyota Production system also known as Lean Manufacturing in...

...(1) What are some of the worst jobs you know about? Why are they bad jobs? Why do people want these jobs? Telemarketer, embalmer, grave digger, and janitor are a few of the worst jobs that I can think of. There are several reasons why these are less than desirable career fields. I think the poor job design in particular is to blame. Good job design consists of skill variety, job identity, job significance, autonomy, and feedback (Heizer & Render). These jobs have few or none of these attributes. First off let’s talk about skill variety. These jobs, with the exception of the embalmer, are very low skill jobs. They involve doing one basic task, for example calling random phone numbers or digging graves. The next two issues are job identity and significance. While these jobs are specific enough, it is hard to find the real significance in your job as a janitor. Indeed, you do keep the place clean for everyone else, but couldn’t they do that themselves? Autonomy, is a part of all of these jobs, maybe a little too much. Being alone in the work place all the time can be quite difficult since humans are social creatures with a need to interact. The final aspect is good feedback. With these being mostly autonomous jobs, it is unlikely that feedback is provided. As you can see, job design can play a factor is making a job worse than it already is. Why would someone take these jobs? There are undesirable jobs all around the world, and someone has to do them. Maybe the telemarketer...

...purchasing prepares for an upcoming event, we provide our stores the details of the feature products and recommend how much product they should order. However, stores have the ability to adjust their orders based on how much they can sell/lease. In terms of replenishment, we send an availability report to stores on a weekly basis that breaks down their inventory by idle/on order and identifies if store are over or below their optimal levels by category. This report is a good tool for our stores to recognize any gaps in their inventory and gives them the opportunity to move inventory within other stores and provides them a guideline on what they should replenish. Stores have the ability to order product through our internal ordering system by creating requisitions. The system will automatically approve orders based on their inventory level and purchasing will roll them up on a weekly basis and send to vendors. Although our department reviews and recommends, we must always include our stores in our procurement process. The disadvantages of being decentralized would be that we don’t have full control of our store’s inventory and the ability to order based on what they need. The challenge we have...

...1.0Importance of inventory management as it relates to farmers restaurant? Inventory management plays very important role in the restaurant business. When you are running restaurant business you need to look at inventory management as part of your preliminary plans. Kristin is facing inventory problems in Farmers restaurant. For this reason, explanation of inventory management is necessary for solving the problem of Kristin. Following solutions are applicable to help Kristin. 1.1nventory management & weekly food costing can lower your food cost It’s easy and unfortunately common for restaurants to lose money through poor inventory management. Even the most well managed, established restaurants have ongoing challenges in this area. As a restaurant manager you share the same challenges as any business with a valuable inventory. Inventory is nothing more than a cost until it is sold. The larger your inventory, the less money you have available for marketing, for new equipment or simply drawing interest in a bank account. Major manufacturers and retailers work very hard to keep inventory level low and constantly moving. Food used in restaurant is mostly perishable stuff. If staff fails to manage food items, it will go to garbage with hard earned profit. The biggest problem facing many restaurant operators and managers is a lack of knowledge regarding food cost control. 1.2Suggested ordering Firstly, the suggested ordering can help restaurant manager to simplify ordering...

...The main difference is with the cost of goods sold. A manufacturing company uses labor and other inputs to transforms raw materials into finished product and then sells the product, like a merchandising company. But in service company does not produce/sell products, instead it provides service. So service companies usually don’t have a cost of goods sold as they aren’t selling a product, they are selling an idea. As the other two company types; Manufacturing, Merchandising Company are selling a tangible product, they will have a cost of goods sold. 1.1 How are they different in term Cost accounting? Title | Manufacturing company | Merchandising company | Service Company | Inventory | * Raw materials * Work in process * Finish goods | * Merchandise inventory | No inventory | Cost of goods/services | * Cost of goods sold | * Net purchase price | * Cost of rendering of services | Cost of goods manufactured | * Direct materials * Direct labor * Overhead | * | * Related service expenses | * Goods The key difference between service firms and manufacturers is the tangibility of their output. The output of a service firm, such as consultancy, training or...

Reviewing the data above, one may choose the subcontracting strategy. However, while calculating the cost incurred, the holding cost of inventory has not been added. The holding cost of inventory will be $2,426,919. Including this cost will increase the total to $10,256,434. Inventory cost must also be considered and the subcontracting strategy leads to more than the two-week inventory constraint. In addition, the subcontracting strategy inventory levels fall below the minimum required. The Level and Stable workforce strategies will be even more costly than the Sub-contracting strategy. Thus, we suggest that FoldRite use the Chase strategy. The chase strategy is the most profitable and the sales forecasts will be met. There is a significant concern with the Chase strategy. It may impact the morale negatively. To minimize this effect, the company should not hire new skilled laborers; FoldRite should train unskilled laborers. This will incent the laborers; they will receive positive reinforcement for their additional skills. In addition, this will cost less than new hires, while reducing the number of lay-offs. Training current...

An explanation of the inventories valuation method are as follow: FIFO is assumed that items from the inventory are sold in the order in which they are purchased or produced. Purchase is of an out let as a store (Item) Produced is of a manufactory (Raw Material) With LIFO method inventory is sold first and older remains in inventory. The newer higher prices is are goods and ending inventory cost consists of older low priced items this is when prices of goods increase...
