4. Industry and Market analysis
The market is growing according to research and the growth potential is promising. There are four known commercial Snail farming companies in Britain, rearing snails using extensive method of farming and the growth has been continually increasing, according to research our immediate competitor Aylesbury snail farm has increased production units by over 1000 square feet and the market continue to depend on importation from western Europe to fill the big gap on the market. Snail new venture s will grow and process the production locally following the strict British regulations and standards and this will be an added advantage and enable the company to penetrate the market.(Winter 2013)
According to 2012 report by keynote, the restaurants markets are expected to experience continued steady growth of over 8% between 2012 and 2016 reaching a market value of over £29million.
The snail meat has a high value of nutrients and many people, including the government of the day is stressing on health eating and the trend of the snail meat consumption according to research, is increasing drastically and the four commercial snail producers in Britain are struggling to meet the demand (winter 2013) and even the biggest consumer in Europe, France which consumes 30,000 tonnes of snail meat annually. Although France have about 300 snail farmers who could only sustain 5% of the total consumption and the remaining big deficit has to rely on importation from western Europe. Snail farmers cannot sustain demand for the snail delicacy, statistic show that since 2000 the demand has sky rocketed from 30,000 tonnes annually to750, 000 in 2015, (Milmo2014)
The outcome of our primary research , telephone survey showed that 28 of the restaurant contacted serve the snail delicacy and 10 have never served ,and only 6 out of the 28 restaurant contacted serve locally produced snail delicacy, and most of them serve frozen and a large number of the restaurants indicated that they would prefer locally produced products.
Snail farming in a large scale requires a lot of finances in terms of equipment and resources, snail shells have been found in prehistoric site and this indicate that snail was eaten in prehistoric time. Some people eat snail during lent. Consumption of snails has increased as people are becoming experimenter and are encouraged by cookery programs and magazines, as well as having widely travelled, increase but most of the snails eaten are imported

Monsanto Corporation

...Monsanto C 1. Explore the influence of big business on American agriculture. a. Monsanto Corporation is an American company that has been engulfed in a series of controversies, particularly the ones related to GMO seeds. While the company is portrayed as the most successful, the seeds it produces attract controversies due to the issue of GMO. Additionally, the fact that farmers keep purchasing the company seeds compounds this issue. Even though the company remains successful in almost every part of the world, its success is significantly attributable to the monopoly tendencies it employs. Currently, the US has only three other companies including Dow Agro Sciences, Syngenta, and DuPont/Pioneer but Monsanto remains dominant due to the clever...

The Problem and Solving

...Zidian Lyu 998054799 GEL 001, SECTION 04 Seventh Draft The Problems and Solutions for Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta Introduction The Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta (SSRD) is formed at the confluence of the south-flowing Sacramento River and the north-flowing San Joaquin River (Fig.1). The estuary encompasses 1,600 square miles, drains over 40 percent of the State of California, and provides habitat and stop-over ground to numerous species of fish and wildlife.  (Association of California Water Agencies, 2014) Because of its special geographical position, about two-thirds of salmon that migrate into California pass through the Delta, as do nearly half the migrating waterfowl and shorebirds (Association of California Water Agencies, 2014).  Besides, due to the world's largest man-made plumbing job, the estuary provides 7.2 million acre-feet of water a year for export, irrigates 4.5 million acres of farmland, and provides drinking water for 20 million Californians (Association of California Water Agencies, 2014).  For these reasons, the SSRD becomes the most important estuary on the west coast. Climate change and man-made modifications to the delta have resulted in many environmental and ecological problems. Problems such as agricultural irrigation, urban water usage, land use and control can threaten citizens’ lives and prosperity. Solutions to mitigate this ecological disaster mainly focus on the divisions between environmental and economic interest. To achieve...

Growing the Private Sector

...governance perspective. In this regard, we recall that governance is 111 primarily concerned with two inter-related issues. These are (a) existence of societal institutions for managing social relations; and (b) the degree of independence enjoyed by each institution in the performance of its assigned duties. Hence, the state of institutions along these two dimensions determines the quality of governance. Herein lies the desirability of assessing the current state of institutional setting in which ODSEEDS would be designed and implemented. For the purpose of our discussion, we have identified three major groups of stakeholders around which institutions could be appraised. These groups comprise (a) the government (public sector), (b) business (private sector); and (c) civil society (the people). These are the three primary partners (3PP) in the development process of any nation. The characteristic of each partner group in Ondo State are highlighted briefly as follows: 17.1 The Public Sector Ondo State has a seasoned executive arm of government, a legacy it inherited from the early 60s. The state’s civil service is blessed with competent technocrats and is expected to serve as the engine room of state administration. At the political level, the return to representative political system in 1999 has enhanced popular participation in state’s public policy process, especially in the choice of their preferred political leaders. The scope and effectiveness of this participation...

...HUM101: WORLD CIVILIZATION AND CULTURE TOPIC 1: STONE AGE- PROLOGUE TO CIVILIZATION History: History is the record and interpretation of human past. It is useful and it teaches us many things about the world we live in. History is about everyday things which includes the factors how people use to travel, live, wear, eat, cook food, what were there beliefs, what kind of government they had, what theye use to do in their free time etc. All these factors makes history interesting and gives us an idea about the past actions of human beings. Before discovering what happened in history we must know when it happened. Chronology in history : BC: Before Christ BCE: Before Christian Era AD: Anno Domini CE: Christian Era Decade Century Millennium For example, we can count our age from the time we were born but we cannot count like these in history. No one knows when the world began and no one could write about 6000 years ago. But we must have a date that we can call Year One. People in different countries use different dates for Year One and sometimes often measure the date which is important in their religion. In Christian Calendar Year One is denoted as the year when Jesus Christ was born. AD means Anno Domini. These are Latin Word for ‘In the year of our Lord’. But also we want to count years before Christ was born which is before Year One. Time before Christ was born is known as (Before Christ). There are no written records about how people use to live in the past. Time before...

8. Successful Leaders Have a Clear Sense of Purpose. What Is Your Statement of Purpose

...RICHARD DAWKINS-The Selfish Gene. Ebook v1.0. 'Who should read this book? Everyone interested in the universe and their place in it.' Jeffrey R. Baylis, Animal Behaviour Our genes made us. We animals exist for their preservation and are nothing more than their throwaway survival machines. The world of the selfish gene is one of savage competition, ruthless exploitation, and deceit. But what of the acts of apparent altruism found in nature-the bees who commit suicide when they sting to protect the hive, or the birds who risk their lives to warn the flock of an approaching hawk? Do they contravene the fundamental law of gene selfishness? By no means: Dawkins shows that the selfish gene is also the subtle gene. And he holds out the hope that our species-alone on earth-has the power to rebel against the designs of the selfish gene. This book is a call to arms. It is both manual and manifesto, and it grips like a thriller. The Selfish Gene, Richard Dawkins's brilliant first book and still his most famous, is an international bestseller in thirteen languages. For this new edition there are two major new chapters. 'learned, witty, and very well written...exhilaratingly good.' Sir Peter Medawar, Spectator Richard Dawkins is a Lecturer in Zoology at Oxford University and a Fellow of Mew College, and the author of The Blind Watchmaker. Preface to 1976 edition This book should be read almost as though it were science fiction. It is designed to appeal to the imagination. But it is not science...

How China Rises

...How China rises What lessons can be drawn from China's spectacular and sustained economic growth? As Hu Jintau remarked at the 17th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, the period since the previous Congress five years ago has been extraordinary. China's economic achievements have been arousing not only astonishment and admiration but also some anxiety. In the past twelve months alone, The People's Republic of China (PRC) has overtaken Canada as the biggest source of imports to the USA, and overtaken the USA as the biggest source of imports to the European Union. Concern about the low level of investment in Africa has been displaced by concern about the effects of the high level of Chinese investment in Africa; there is now even anxiety about the effects of investment by Chinese state-owned firms into the Western economies. The Chinese Communist Party is also expressing concerns. The themes of its 2007 Congress included protection of the environment and the achievement of social harmony. According to some estimates, China has displaced the USA as the world's biggest source of greenhouse gases. Inequality is rising as fast as pollution: China now has over 800 individuals with a personal wealth of more than a hundred million US dollars each, up from 500 in 2006; while the average income in rural areas of China is 480 dollars per year. Made in China. Hu Jintau's remark on the extraordinary nature of the most recent years can be faulted in only one sense: China has...
