...In Spoon River Anthology written by Edgar Lee Masters he creates many themes on being peace through death some examples of this theme are these following epitaphs; Wendell P. Bloyd, Fiddler Jones, Washington McNeely. You might ask how do these epitaphs relate to peace through death, Bloyd examines death after life as a why of god’s punishment. Jones ended his life with happiness even though he didn’t accomplish much, just forty acres and a broken fiddle. McNeely wanted success for his children but instead got failure but it all didn’t matter when he finally died. In this essay there will be ideas relating to the theme peace through death. Wendell P. Bloyd is a character that has been treated unfairly through life and as he reviews it in death we can see what he thought was wrong, one of those things was god. You could say he’s being too critical, to mean, and maybe even a little atheist, he said these things for he thought god put him on earth to be a fool, and always be fool. Bloyd was even ironically beaten to death by a catholic guard. He said “Where he was beaten to death by a catholic guard. My offense was this: I said god lied to Adam and destined him to lead a life of a fool,...” Wendell is a perfect example to idea of peace through death,...

...Spoon River Anthology Benjamin Franklin once said “Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.” Franklin is stating that without growth and progress the world would be standing still, not improving or achieving anything. This relates to Spoon River Anthology in the sense that the world is constantly changing and needs to continue to change or we won’t be helping anyone or any situation. In Spoon River there are many themes discussed that help explain the townspeople’s thoughts and roles as the changes happen. Prohibition, women’s rights, racism, Social Darwinism, and progressive reform are some of the themes that are described in Spoon River Anthology. Since I myself am a woman the idea of women’s rights really sticks in my head and seems like a very important and good change for the world. Also Prohibition had a major impact on the world at this specific time period, 1865- 1916, so it is a major theme throughout Spoon River. I am a very strong, independent, smart woman and I still cannot believe women at one time had no rights. Their job was to stay at home, take care of the kids, and provide meals for the man when he got home. This is not in the slightest bit fair. Women weren’t even allowed to vote! The Fifteenth Amendment, ratified in 1870, states “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or...

...Summary: Chapter 29 The real Harvey Wilks, in an authentic English accent, explains the reasons he and his brother, William, were delayed: their luggage was misdirected, and his mute brother broke his arm, leaving him unable to communicate by signs. Doctor Robinson again declares the duke and the dauphin to be frauds and has the crowd bring the real and the fraudulent Wilks brothers to a tavern for examination. The frauds draw suspicion when they fail to produce the $6,000 from the Wilks inheritance. A lawyer friend of the deceased then asks the duke, the dauphin, and the real Harvey to sign a piece of paper. When the lawyer compares the writing samples to letters he has from the real Harvey, the frauds are exposed. The dauphin, however, refuses to give up and claims that the duke is playing a joke on everyone by disguising his handwriting. Because the real William serves as scribe for the real Harvey and cannot write due to his broken arm, the crowd cannot prove that the real Wilkses are indeed who they say they are. To put an end to the situation, the real Harvey declares he knows of a tattoo on his brother’s chest, asking the undertaker who dressed the body to back him up. But after the dauphin and Harvey each offer a different version of the tattoo’s appearance, the undertaker surprises everyone by telling the crowd he saw no tattoo. The mob cries out for the blood of all four men, but the lawyer instead sends them out to exhume the body and check for the tattoo themselves...

...principal causes of slope failure that could trigger landslides include: (i) water pressure, either rain water or ground water; (ii) toe of slope removal which reduces resistance to movement, including natural river undercutting or artificial road cutting or quarrying; (iii) head loading which increases the driving force of slides; (iv) strength reduction by weathering which ultimately weakens all slope materials; and (v) vibrations caused either by natural or human induced earthquakes. Nonetheless, assessment of many landslides in the past has shown that most of them have complex origins depending on where and when a number of contributory factors coincide. Landslide hazard analysis and mapping can provide useful information for catastrophic loss reduction, and assist in the development of guidelines for sustainable land use planning. The analysis is used to identify the factors that are related to landslides, estimate the relative contribution of factors causing slope failures, establish a relation between the factors and landslides, and to predict the landslide hazard in the future based on such a relationship (Tenalem Ayenew and Barbieri, 2004; Henok Woldegiorgis et al., 2014, Shiferaw Ayele et al., 2014). The factors that have been used for landslide hazard analysis can usually be grouped into geomorphology, geology, land use/land cover, and hydrogeology. Landslide hazard zonation can also be made using ‘Slope stability susceptibility evaluation parameter (SSEP)’ rating scheme...

...9/20/2014 Elizabeth Wurtzel: Why I Will Be Wed - NYTimes.com http://nyti.ms/XBIyo5 SUNDAYREVIEW | OPINION Getting Married Is Easy By ELIZABETH WURTZEL SEPT. 20, 2014 I DID not expect to fall in love at 46, and I did not expect to plan a wedding at 47. Except that I always expect to be surprised. I would love to say that I don’t know why I never got around to this until now, but that would be a big fat lie. I never got married because who would want to? I was the worst girlfriend ever. And yes, I am the crazy exgirlfriend you hear about. I had no regard for time of day or time of year or time at all. Perhaps I just had no regard. It’s not like I called boyfriends at 2 a.m. because something was wrong: I did it because I liked to talk in the dark when there was nothing good to watch on TV anymore. I also called when something was wrong, and something was always wrong, because I could work my way into serious bother about something said in passing between the appetizer and the entree the night before, and that would turn into obsessive thoughts and long, intense conversations that would stretch across business hours and interrupt meetings all the next day. I needed — always absolutely needed — to get things resolved when it was not at all convenient. I called so repeatedly that I was impossible to ignore. When technology enabled me to be demanding in many formats, my long voice mail messages became longer text messages and the longest emails...

So water occupies more space than land but 97% is the salt water and 3% is the fresh drinking water. Many technologies are developed to use salt water for producing electrical energy. The energy produced in this way is renewable energy source. Ex: salt water battery, salt water generators etc. The modern battery is found in high-tech applications ranging from hearing aids and pace-makers to pocket calculators, personal stereos, radios and mobile phones. They are everywhere and completely invaluable. The origin of the power behind the battery is chemical. In the following paper I explain...

I now understand this vital concept much better due to the greatness in exposure I have received while working at Hatch, as well how I have been trained by upper year leads whom have a richer skilled set which allowed me to gain knowledge and never stop my continual learning loop. Specifically, I learned how to use different functions within excel such as creating variance formulas and setting automatic dates. This has been a game changer as although I was introduced to variance formulas in ENVS 278, the concept was not clear to me and I did not even know the use for it. Though, when applying this to a real life setting in something that I understood more which was our baseline analysis for when our Russian client is supposed to initiate a kick-off meeting to be the procurement plan it made more sense. Here we evaluated the dates we had in our forecast, then sent it off to the client for their filling. I noticed the variance was 5 days, which meant we were 5 days ahead of them. Thus, did not make sense as their next milestone which was clarification meetings came 5 days after ours. After noticing the skew, I concluded that the client forgot one vital component in the evaluation. What they forgot to add was there issuing request for quotation which altered the rest of the swim lanes. The variance formula utilized an ‘IF” statement which was something different from the classroom as I was always introduced to a cell minus...

...CHAPTER 1 THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction Tilapia are sometimes known as “aquatic chicken”, due to their high growth rates, adaptability to a wide range of environmental conditions, ability to grow and reproduce in captivity and feed on low trophic levels. As a result, these fishes have become excellent candidates for aquaculture, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. Tilapias live in freshwater ecosystems, but can also tolerate water that contains low levels of salt. They are most often grown in ponds, cages and rice fields. Tilapias prefer a warmer water temperature that is why it’s the second most cultured fish in the Philippines. White bean nutrition facts show a complete nutrition source that has significant amounts of essential amino acids, as well as an abundance of unsaturated fat, minerals, vitamins, and protein. Also, it contains no cholesterol and is a great source of plant protein that can substitute for meat, poultry, or other meats. For this reason, white bean is a good source of protein. Due to the high cost of commercial feeds, the researchers thought of utilizing white bean, which is a good source of protein, as main ingredient for an alternative supplemental feeds. Small quantities of fish feed can be made quite easily in the laboratory, classroom or at home, with common ingredients and simple kitchen or laboratory equipment. Fish farmers, hobbyists and anyone interested in aquaculture will not only save money but they will...

... IV. Contact Information: 09086548323/ rodrigo_dvjr@yahoo.com.ph V. Background of the Study Dagupan City is a major urban center in Northern Luzon. It is a sub-regional center for trade and commerce, finance, education and health services of Region 1 (www.facebook.com/ddagupandream?fref=ts). With a population of 161, 375, it is located along the seacoast and at the eastern margin on the delta of Agno River (Dagupan City Disaster Coordinating Council, 2011). It has a total land area of 4008 hectares with 31 barangays. It lies one meter above sea level and Pantal River flows through the city. This poor elevation of the City makes it more vulnerable to flooding. This geological characteristic of Dagupan is the reason why the City is the catch basin of flood waters from the neighboring towns as there are seven river systems that traverse Dagupan City, all of which drain out to the Lingayen Gulf. Flooding occurs due to the exit point of the two bigger river systems in Pangasinan, namely the Agno and the Toboy-Tolong rivers and by the onset of high tide.It is with this reason that when there are heavy rains, storm surges and typhoon, Dagupan City is directly affected with flood. Typhoons are responsible...

Differentiate between relative and absolute dating. List, define and discuss the principles used to define relative age. Discuss isotopic dating: what atomic particles are involved, what are some common isotopes that are used, and what are some uses of isotopic dating? Be sure to explain the calculation of the age of a rock. Relative dating is telling us the age of something compared to that of the substances around it, more plainly stated the sequence of events. Absolute dating tells how old something is, an amount of time can be associated with an object unlike in relative dating. There are four stratigraphy principles used to determine geologic history of a locality or a region: 1) original horizontally...

Political profile is one of the most important factors to consider since the government is the one who gives financial support to accomplish certain projects or plans. The city of Intramuros has many things to offer. Even if it is not blessed with natural and archeological resources, the “walled city” is rich in history and culture that plays a major role in preserving our heritage and national identity since, it is easily overlooked by many Filipinos. In order to know the strategies that we are going to utilize and to come up with our group’s goal and mission, we use Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats Analysis. It turned out to that opportunity in Intramuros outnumbered the other three components of SWOT Analysis which is strengths, weaknesses, and threats. This implies that the future of Intramuros can be as good as we never imagined however, it requires long term maintenance of responsibility by the residents, tourists, and the government. Our proposed development is...
