Bibi Nusrat encourages them to stay away from that land because it's dangerous for them to go there and tells them to go to University Town. ...Chapter 13: to kill a mocking bird * Scout asks Aunt Alexandra if she's come for a visit, and aunty says that she and Atticus have decided that it's best if she stays with them for a while, as Scout needs some "feminine influence" (13.10). * Scout does not agree with this, but keeps quiet about it. * In fact, Scout has trouble making any kind of conversation with her aunt. * That evening Atticus comes home and confirms Aunt Alexandra's reason for her coming to stay, though Scout thinks it's mostly her aunt's doing, part of her long campaign to do "What Is Best For The Family" (13.22). * Aunt Alexandra is popular in Maycomb and takes a leading role in the feminine social circles, even though she makes obvious her belief that Finches are superior to everyone else (even though, as Jem says, most people in town are related to the Finches anyhow). * Aunt Alexandra is a firm believer in Streaks—each family has one (a Drinking Streak, a Gambling Streak, etc.), though Scout doesn't really understand her aunt's obsession with heredity. * It makes a kind of sense. The town is far enough away from the river that forms the area's main transportation route means that hardly anyone ever moves to Maycomb or away from it. Families have known each other for generations, establishing the reputation for having "streaks." * Scout mostly ignores her aunt, unless she gets called in to make an appearance at a luncheon or tea. * Alexandra also attempts to instill family...

...Unit 4 M2 Discuss two major theories in relation to the development of the individual Once individuals reach a certain age they could stay active, meaning they will have to stay active and involved. That means they need to have and interest in life and spend time with family and friends. The other thing individuals could be is disengage, meaning they will withdraw themselves from activates and people, which means less interaction with family and friends and mostly staying inside. When Nicki gets older in age, there is a chance that she might disengage from activities and people. It’s possible that Nicki could just lose interest in activities and being around people for example family and friends, meaning she would spend less time with them. This wouldn’t be surprising as Nicki is only human like everyone else, which means that she goes through the life stages and development like everyone. Another reason why Nicki could become disengage is if she develops an illness that is really bad causing her to isolate herself from everything and everyone, as it probably would be too difficult for her to cope with. This is because as you get older up age you prefer to be more independent and hide things that may cause emotional problems for family and friends. Another reason for Nicki to disengage is if a life changing event was to happen in her life, this would cause her to distant herself from people, activities and the outside world, especially if what happened was too painful...

...went through to give me the experiences that I now have to look back upon. I only cared about if I was having an enjoyable experience at the time. When I didn’t get my way I would complain about small insignificant things that should not have mattered. It is funny how the things I thought so little about then, make huge differences now. One of the first things that comes to mind when I think of vacations are hotels. When growing up my family would often stay overnight at hotels for mini vacations. I didn’t have a care in the world. I got to sit back and enjoy everything that was going on around me. My parents would choose a hotel for the family to stay at for the night and that was it, that’s where we would be going. I would complain about having to share a bed with my siblings because I wanted my own bed. I also remember complaining about the long car rides to the hotel. As an adult when I look at going to a hotel I have a few things I have to consider before making my decisions. I have to think about where I am going to stay, how much this hotel will cost, and I also have to worry about leaving on time to make it in time for the check in. Another thing I have to consider is what amenities the hotel has to offer for my family to enjoy. Also I must make sure that there is enough room for us to all fit comfortably. The location of my vacations has changed quite drastically since I was a child. When I was growing up my parents were able to take me all over the country on our...

...Comparison & Contrast Essay Living at home and living away from home as students (during the higher education studies) Millions of students are often faced with the question of whether it is better to live at home or to go abroad and hence away from home for the period of their studies. Many would probably intuitively say that leaving home is an effort that is not necessary since the same opportunities for one’s study are often given where one lives, thus at the home city or home place. However, there are a number of advantages that can be found about the same decision. To begin with, living at home while studying means being close to family, friends and colleagues one knows, likes, and loves. It is simple, convenient and beneficial to keep and foster those relations. In fact, most friendships are built in the environment one grew up in, went to school, or worked. Hence, staying home during the studies provides the possibility for spending more enjoyable time with these friends and family members. This means that one can go out for a drink with friends after the university or college, have a dinner or enjoy a movie at the cinema together. More importantly however, apart from spending the good times together, very often study-related problems occur. This could mean to have troubles with a lecturer who does not grade fairly or fellow students who do not treat someone appropriately, i.e. teasing or even fighting. Especially during times like these, will it be essential to...

...How would you feel if all you wanted to be was equal? If instead of worrying about what your teacher will say about not doing your homework, you have to try to find a way to stay alive for the rest of the school day? That’s exactly how the Little Rock Nine felt every day they attended Central High School. When they got the news that they were chosen to go to one of the best high schools in the country, they thought they’d finally done it. Finally gotten the chance to prove that they were just as worthy as whites to get a good education. But all of their optimism disappeared the moment they saw the mob gathered in front of the school. They knew then that nothing would be as they expected. All of their thoughts were confirmed once they stepped inside. The...

...In many ways you can approach math like sports: Train with a buddy. If you possibly can, get a study buddy or form a study group, and meet regularly at least two or three times a week. Very often one of you will be able to help the other one with a problem. Deal with cramps right away. When there’s something you don’t understand, you may be tempted to just put it aside and hope for the best. That strategy doesn’t work at all in math! Because everything builds, if you don’t understand A you will probably not understand B and C either. If this happens in class, ask a question right away. Don’t apologize and don’t worry about looking stupid; probably other people have exactly the same question. Outside of class, use the Baker Center tutors or talk through the problem with your study buddy. Visit your instructor during office hours or make an appointment for another time. Warm up before the event. Before class, look back over the readings and your homework. Make sure you are ready with any questions. Stay in training. Review your notes after class, even rewrite them to make sure you understand everything. If there are several days between classes, review the material at least every other day to keep it fresh in your mind. Make sure you train enough. The College recommends 2–3 hours per classroom hour, but you may need more. Recognize especially that in the summer you’re making a big time commitment. If your class meets five days a week for an hour and 40 minutes a day, that’s...

...dusky as the bushes, and skin as white as the feathers of swans…” from the third wish. Her name was Leita, and in the old man’s opinion, she made the perfect wife: she was gentle and friendly, cleaned the house, and cared for him greatly. But over a course of weeks, Leita started to get very sad, and the only time she was happy was when she returned from mysterious one and a half hour trips with no explanation. One day, Mr. Peters was returning home when he saw Leita sobbing with her hands around another swan, who was crying too. Suddenly, everything clicked in place. Of course Leita was too beautiful to be a human, it was because she wasn’t a human, she was a swan! And the swan she was holding so tenderly was someone that he had torn her away from. Troubled, the man asks her, what’s wrong, and she responds: “This is my...

...Refining Solutions Travis Lara March 24, 2014 PHL-458 Carrie Woodhouse My issue happened about a year ago. I had to decide weather or not I should stay in the military or get out. This decision would change everything, not just in my life, but my families life. My first solution would be to stay in the military. With this solution came a lot of sacrifice. If I stayed in the military I would be receiving orders out of California, which is where home is, unaccompanied. Unaccompanied means that I would be moving without my family. I would be in a different state or country for two years without my family. The second solution would be to get out. The scary part about that is that I didn't have a job secured for when I got out as of yet. I had been applying through several law enforcement agencies and interviewing, but had not yet received a yes from any. I was given 24 hours to make the decision. I soon decided that the best solution for me was to get out. Although this is a decision left a lot to the unknown I just could not imagine being away from my wife and kids for two years. According to Ruggiero in Chapter 11 there are three steps to refining a solution. Step one is working out the details. In this step you need figure out exactly how your decision will be applied. Step two is finding imperfections and complications. In this step you check for common kinds of imperfections, compare the solution to competing ones, consider what changes your solution...

My father will be pacing the floor Just listen to that fireplace roar Now really I'd better scurry Sweetheart, what's your hurry? ...Eon’s past by Kris a. gill It was a day just like this, except…that day was the day that my life was going to change before it had even started to be written. I was a newborn in this world, no parents, no relatives, no one to watch over me…it was as if I had just suddenly appeared into existence like the snap of a finger. I was just there with no meaning to live or to even exist in this world, but seeing as I was just a baby I could not end myself…but I sure wish I could’ve done so. Not too long after I was born a dark figure approached me and picked me up from the patch of grass in which I laid on and held me in his arms. The words he said to me as I looked up at him were, “You’re perfect…” He carried me to his house and tooked me to what seemed to be some sort of laboratory. As he sat me down on a cold steel top he began to examine me as if to make sure that I was perfectly healthy. At the time I found it quite amusing and giggled as he did his normal examinations. After a week I had grown rather close to him and thought of him as my father…I was happy as a baby could be…but I soon realized that happiness would not last forever and I will also realize what he meant by me being perfect when we first met…it was a Sunday, he brought me back to his lab but this time something felt wrong. I felt something sinister in the air as he placed me down on what looked like an operating table. I looked across the room and saw a small kitten with fur that was once black and now was...
