The Stonehenge is considered as one of the Neolithic period monuments and considered as an architectural artwork that represents an earthwork. It was constructed between 3000-1800 BC, on the Salisbury plain in Western Europe, Wiltshire, Southern England. Archaeologists state that there are several theories on the purpose of building the Stonehenge. Many have wondered by whom and why was it built. One of these theories narrate a story of the conflict between the kingdom of Breton Vortigern, elected king of England, and the Saxon and their king Hengist. Since the two parties had agreed to make peace, they agreed to meet, unarmed near the site of the Stonehenge. However, the Saxons drew their daggers and assassinated king Vortigern and hundreds of noble Bretons. Aurelius Amborosius successor to Vortigren, decided to erect a monument to commemorate the massacre. A second theory states that the Stonehenge was made to be used as a temple for sacred ceremonies. There are several assumption regarding the purpose of the monument, however, the most accurate theory so far is that the Stonehenge was built to understand the movement of the sun in order to determine the lengths of the day and to detriment seasonal changes. …show more content…

...The mysterious formation of rocks that are in Wiltshire, England have been keeping scientists confused for years and years because it was an extremely difficult structure to build when it was predicted to be first built about four thousand years ago. Stonehenge has all sorts of theories and predictions on how and why the structures of rocks are there. Some of theories revolving around Stonehenge include how people four thousand years managed to move these gargantuan rocks. Each rock is about seven feet in height and fifty tons. Another theory about Stonehenge is how they used the building of the rocks to “heal” people. They would put the person they were healing in the center surrounded by all the rocks and do whatever they had to, to...

...The remarkable monumental stones also know, as the megaliths have been architecture by Neolithic builders. These big stones are located in the Northern Europe, and collectively are estimated about one hundred upright stones placed in a circular position. This unique architecture structure is famously known as Stonehenge. Researchers have estimated the Stonehenge to be built around 4,000 to 5,000 years ago. By exploring the monumental stones it has intrigued myself to know who built Stonehenge, the construction of Stonehenge, the purpose of its creation, and Stonehenge as of today. By researching these topics we will have a better understanding the meaning Stonehenge. Many historians and archaeologists have came to an agreement that there were several tribes of people that participated to construct Stonehenge. It was first believed that Neolithic agrarians were inherent by the British Isles. But than later, to believe a group of more advance tools and a cooperative way of marking their presence on the land was...

Humanities

...HUMA205-1203A-15 Art Appreciation Steven R Cross AIU Online 10 June, 2012 Abstract Art takes form in many different ways of expression. Some throughout history express a way of life and belief, while others many express an escape for what back then may be the normal thoughts and patterns. The viewer may take from the art, knowledge or feelings of life back then. As time went by people and lifestyles changed as well did art and expression. Art Appreciation Encyclopedia Britannica (Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc., 2012) describes art as “a visual object or experience consciously created through an expression of skill or imagination. The term art encompasses diverse media such as painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, decorative arts, photography, and installation”. UBC (Belton, 2008) explains art as “•the product of conscious intention, •a self-rewarding activity, •a tendency to unite dissimilar things, •a concern with change and variety, •the aesthetic exploitation of familiarity vs. surprise, •the aesthetic exploitation of tension vs. release, •the imposition of order on disorder, •the creation of illusions, •an indulgence in sensuousness, •the exhibition of skill, •a desire to convey meanings, •an indulgence in fantasy, •the aggrandizement of self or others, •illustration, •the heightening of existence, •revelation, •personal adornment or embellishment, •therapy, •the giving of meaning to life, •the generation of unselfconscious...

...Character Sketch MY FRIEND LIZ My friend Liz is the most amazing friend anybody could ask for. We’ve been through so much together, we’re basically like sisters. We met on the first day of school in sixth grade, both of us terrified by the massive size of the middle school. She had the locker right above mine. I told her I didn’t know anybody in our class and she said “You do now.” We’ve been friends ever since. Most boys think Liz is cute. She has long red hair, cascading over her shoulders. She laughs about everything and when she does, you see about a hundred white teeth – so bright, you almost need sunglasses. When she laughs, her eyes grow wide, glowing emerald green. Liz likes to dress kind of skater-ish, in camouflage pants, sweatshirts, and wristbands. But, she’s unpredictable, too. Sometimes she’ll wear overalls or a fancy dress. She must have three closets full of clothes, because she barely ever wears the same outfit twice. Liz is the most lively, animated character I’ve ever known. She’s always rushing around, trying to get the latest scoop on everybody. It’s like she’s in the FBI. Right before she shares important news, Liz tosses back her hair, takes a deep breath, and quickly looks side to side, to be sure the coast is clear. She never says anything mean about people, she just wants to know what’s going on. She always supports me in everything I want to do. Not many girls in our group of friends play sports, but when I told Liz I wanted to go out for basketball...

Harvard Referencing

...Harvard referencing: a guide for SoM students Introduction Academic work demands that you consider the work of other writers and researchers. To use their work without acknowledgement is to steal the ideas of other people and is called plagiarism. You should acknowledge the sources which have informed your work by citing them in the text of your work, and referencing them at the end of your essay, project report, dissertation or thesis. Otherwise, you run the risk of being accused of academic misconduct. There are several widely used methods for writing references. The School of Management uses the Harvard system. If you do not use this method properly you will lose marks. What sources of information should I be reading? Before you use any document, you should consider the quality of the information it provides. Articles published in refereed academic journals are the most authoritative, because they have been through a thorough checking process known as peer review. Books may not have been checked so rigorously by their publishers. Articles in newspapers and trade magazines are not checked as carefully as those in refereed academic journals so may not be as reliable. And information found on the Internet needs to be treated with caution, as anyone can put material there, accurate or otherwise! How do I put a citation in my text? To avoid being accused of plagiarism, you need to put a citation in the text you are writing whenever you mention another person’s work. This...

Prehistory (meaning "before history", or "before knowledge acquired by investigation", from the Latin word for "before," præ, and historia) is the span of time before recorded history or the invention of writing systems. Prehistory refers to the period of human existence before the availability of those written records with which recorded history begins. More broadly, it can refer to all the time preceding human existence and the invention. The term "prehistory" can refer to the vast span of time since the beginning of the Universe, but more often it refers to the period since life appeared on Earth, or even more specifically to the time since human-like beings appeared.[4][5] In dividing up human prehistory, prehistorians typically use the three-age system, whereas scholars...

The Victorian Age

...Семинар 6. Вопрос 1 THE VICTORIAN AGE   The Victorian Compromise The Victorian Age takes its name from Queen Victoria who ruled from 1837 to 1901; it was a complex era characterised by stability, progress and social reforms, and, in the mean time, by great problems such as poverty, injustice and social unrest; that’s why the Victorians felt obliged to promote and invent a rigid code of values that reflected the world as they wanted it to be, based on: * duty and hard work; * respectability: a mixture of both morality and hypocrisy, severity and conformity to social standards (possessions of good manners, ownership of a comfortable house, regular attendance at church and charitable activity); it distiguished the middle from the lower classes; * charity and philanthropy: an activity that involved many people, expecially women. The family was strictly patriarchal: the husband represented the authority and respectability, cosequently a single woman with a child was emarginated because of a wide-spread sense of female chastity. Sexuality was generaly repressed and that led to extreme manifestations of prudery. Colonialism was an important phenomenon and it led to a patriotism deeply influenced by ideas of racial superiority: British people thought that they were obeying to God by the imposition of their superior way of life. The concept of “the white man’s burden” was exalted in the works of colonial writers (such as Rudyard Kipling). This code of values, known...
