...with their poor business decisions. One of Borders poor decisions was their heavy stock repurchase. If all the cash that was used to repurchase shares in the middle of this past decade had instead been used to somehow strengthen or restructure the company on a more proactive basis, Borders’ employees and shareholders all probably would have been better served. They should of either launched a more competitive eBook reader or by closed some of their many unprofitable stores earlier so they wouldn’t have came to this point. While doing some reading I came to the conclusion that while the quality of a company’s customer experience is a critical driver behind long-term business success, it’s not the only driver. There are basic elements of business management that, if not executed effectively, can derail the prospects of even those firms with the most revered customer experiences. In Borders’ case, their failure can be traced back to a variety of management issues. For instance, Borders outlets were just plain losing money, yet it’s taken a bankruptcy filing to get the chain to significantly narrow its footprint and remove this financial oppressive burden. On average, Borders stores had 15-20 year leases, limiting the chain’s flexibility to respond to local real estate. Another mishap was not outsourcing sooner. Until just a few years ago, Borders outsourced its online book sales to Amazon. Talk about letting the fox guard the henhouse....

Good consumer buying is making a decision or choice to indulge in customer satisfaction and evaluation of goods or services based on whether the goods or services can meet their needs and expectations. Failure to do so will almost always result in consumer dissatisfaction with the goods or services. If your consumer is not happy they will pass the word on to their friends and family. Word of mouth is the ultimate in consumer buying decisions. What sort of impact you get or your remembrance of the first impression can be a powerful tool in getting patrons to patronize you establishment. The name Ethel's seem to imply strength, warmth, home, maturity and trust. The type of consumers that will buy at Ethel’s Chocolate Lounges will be the consumers that upon entrance will feel that atmosphere that Ethel’s exhibit. They also have affective relationships with their retailers and suppliers. 2.1 Market Summary In 2003, the low-carb and beverage market grew over 100%. (Nutrition Business Journal, 2004) The market for the health drinks and juices is a growing industry. It is filled with many different beverage companies, including Minute Maid, Hi-C, Sunny Delight, and others. Like NAA Bottling Company, many of the main competitors for the fruit drinks are sub-divisions of other carbonated beverage companies, such as Coca-Cola and Pepsi. This is a growing market. A main factor in the rise of demand for the juices and low-carb drinks is that an increasing number of consumers are becoming more health conscious. The majority of consumers are trying to purchase healthier foods and drinks, and are trying to cut down their consumption of carbs. Carbonated...

...drugs in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. Those riots were a direct result of government intervention and left wing social engineering. Now that we’ve finally cut all that nonsense, what do you see in inner cities? Sure, there is poverty, but people are no longer trapped in the cycle of poverty caused by government programming. The elimination of the welfare state and other social programming has ended the cycle of dependence. Inner city residents have to fight their way out of poverty, or end up starving to death. Hunger and the fear of death can be powerful motivators. Today, if poor people turn to drug dealing, prostitution, gambling, it’s completely legal; there’s no longer a police force to harass their communities and throw people in jail for trying to make a good living. And if they do riot, well, the police aren’t going to step in and prevent them from destroying their own neighborhoods. We’ve eliminated the police state and let the power of liberty and freedom take its natural...

...different people are motivated by different things. Motivation is the desire to achieve beyond expectations, being driven by internal rather than external factors, and to be involved in a continuous striving for improvement. In the context of work, motivation is a psychological process that results from the relationship between an employee and the work environment and it is characterized by a certain level of willingness. The employees are willing to increase their work effort in order to be rewarded and get a specific need or desire that they hold. According to Arnold (1991), motivation consists of three components. First is direction that tackles about what a person is trying to do. Second is effort, meaning, how hard a person is trying. And lastly, persistence, this means how long a person keeps on trying to get what he really wanted. Motivation theory tries to explain, why people at work, behave the way they do like of their effort and strive for improvement. The process of motivation shows that a person will always have needs and wants thus he/she has to establish a goal keeping in mind that he/she must take action in order to attain the goal. Research done in both psychology and business literature over the past three decades has recorded that motivation varies as a function of...

...Summer Internship Report Organization Capacity Management, Citibank Analyzing branch banking services and operations for improving process turnaround time and operational efficiency resulting in customer delight. Saryu Kamra & Anubha Mathur 7/14/2011 ABSTRACT This project on Branch Banking Operations attempts to trace and map the branch banking processes end to end and identify all non value added activities and wastages in terms of time so that the Turn Around Time for Customers as well as time required for completion of any transaction or instruction can be reduced considerably. The data collection was divided into two parts, first at individual level and then at the process level. For the former, a chart was prepared for different individuals to map their daily activities and the time taken for these so as to make a comparative analysis vis-à-vis their efficiency in terms of the time spent with the customer and processing further. For the latter, a time and motion study was carried out to map the various Branch activities which were broken down to the micro level to analyze the wastages and superfluous activities involved in the processing of different instructions with the help of Value Stream Maps. The wasteful activities were then identified using the Lean Model introduced by Toyota Production System and classified into seven different categories. These were then individually analyzed and the extent of their effects on various activities and processes were analyzed...
