...called The Gathering, at a church where I helped fed the homeless. As I watched hungry families walk in and grab their food, I felt extremely blessed and thankful for the little and the big things that I have in my life. It reminded me that I should always be grateful and I should not take things for granted even if it’s not even important. I have been a part of Student Council. I was a treasurer during my freshman year and president of my class during my years of high school. Taking part as a treasurer made me realize the importance of money and how powerful it is. From this position, I learned about financial planning and budgeting and with these skills, it will help me in the future on how to save money. Taking an important role as a president for two years made me into a more responsible person, especially if you’re representing a whole class. As a president, I’ve learn the duty that one must fulfill and the responsibilities of one must endure. Through my experiences in as an officer, I’ve learned the significance of independent work and self-responsibilities when others are not around. Other than student council, I am also a part of two sports team and National Honor Society. As an athlete, communication, teamwork, and commitment are important skills to acquire....

...As a student council officer, I would like to accomplish an appreciable amount of things for the Class of 2019 and all the classes following. I will be running for the Joliet Catholic Academy freshman class Vice President, because I feel that is where I belong and deserve to be on student council this year. There are many reasons I am suitable and worthy for this job. I am trustworthy, responsible, creative, and honest when needed which is what I feel a student council member needs to do their role. I am also willing to devote my time to all student council event which I already have because I attended and worked hard at the Breast cancer awareness volleyball game, the homecoming locker and door decorating (my homeroom door won out of all the freshman doors!), and I attended very briefly the movie night in wishing well court....

...always been involved in student government. For my school district, Student Council starts in seventh grade and extends through twelfth grade. From my seventh grade year through my eleventh grade year, I have been apart of the Student Government Association. For seventh and eighth grade, I was an active representative, but for ninth through eleventh grade, I was the student class president each year. My dream of eventually being Student Body President during my senior year was destroyed when I had to move to Phoenix, Arizona during the middle of my eleventh grade year. My election as Class President presented me with the opportunity to learn the skills of leadership and taught me how to make a positive impact in my school and my community....

...I have always been passionate about Student Council at my school. I have been involved in the club at my school from the eighth grade to the present. Although I have been able to be a part of the club, I have always wanted to have a leadership position in the club and make a greater impact at school. Before high school, I always ran for office when I had the chance. In fourth, fifth, and sixth grades, the same girls always beat me for the position. It devastated me because I had the same capabilities as the people who won, but I was never won the election. In eighth grade, I ran for office and it did not end in my favor. During ninth through eleventh grades, I went through a period where I was in Student Council, but I didn’t have the drive or strength to handle failure again....

...International Journal of Information and Education Technology, Vol. 5, No. 6, June 2015 Towards a Model of Engaging Online Students: Lessons from MOOCs and Four Policy Documents Khe Foon Hew Abstract—The paper describes a model of engaging students in fully online or blended learning environments. To do this, I first discuss the notion of student engagement and how it relates to the Self-Determination Theory of motivation. Next, I reviewed a number of online learning policy guidelines from four professional councils around the world in order to elicit specific guidelines related to the design of online learning courses, and student engagement. Following that, I analyzed two most highly-rated MOOCs. I analyzed the structural features of the two MOOCs and the comments of both participants who completed the courses, and who partially completed or dropped out. Altogether, comments from 839 participants were examined. Finally, using these empirical data and the policy guidelines from the four professional organizations, I outline a rudimentary model of engaging students in online learning courses, based on six major instructional design elements. Index Terms—Online learning, blended learning, massive open online learning, MOOCs, e-learning, instructional design, engagement, motivation, self-determination theory. I. INTRODUCTION Online learning for both students and teachers has become one of the fastest growing trends in educational uses of technology [1]. Essentially, the main purpose...

FOREWORD The nature of a research study should be one in which the investigation leads to new knowledge or enhancement of existing knowledge in the student's field of study, either through acquisition of new data or re-examination and interpretation of existing data. At the graduate level, all students should learn how new knowledge is created, how experimentation and discovery are carried out, and how to think, act and perform independently in their discipline. Depending upon the degree to which the discipline has an applied orientation, the student can demonstrate mastery of the discipline through means such as research papers, literature reviews, artistic performances, oral/written presentations or case studies. The doctoral dissertation is viewed in academia as the ultimate model of documentation of the student's research. The characteristics of dissertation research include the theoretical background, description of the problem, the method which was used to solve the problem, interpretation of results and explanation of their significance. The student is expected to produce a product of excellent quality which reflects the originality of the research. The dissertation should be...

...the syllabus under consideration is the mathematics syllabus and the outcome that is to be discussed shall be the level 3 outcome for topic N 3.2. This outcome shall take in consideration the students’ ability to add and subtract numbers that are either whole or in fraction. This is related to a problem solving scenario where the students are not just given the numbers to work on but they are given a word problem that they would have to interpret and then solve in order to understand how the rules of addition and subtraction would work in the real life situations. This paper shall take a look at this outcome in terms of the various conceptions of the curriculum that Eisner and Vallance have laid out in their paper entitled “Five Conceptions of Curriculum: Their Roots and Implications for Curriculum Planning.” Keeping this in mind, it is vital for us to understand that even though it is the children that present us with the outcome of a curriculum, it is the teachers’ job to lead them to it. It is thus very important for the teachers to be professional and that they undergo specific professional development programs. Conceptions of Curriculum 1. The cognitive process approach to curriculum: a. Pedagogy In this regard, the teachers would need to focus on ‘how’ to teach the students instead of what they are teaching. With respect to our outcome, it is imperative that the teacher teaches the children to extract the relevant information from a given worded problem and then...

...White Paper 3 1 and the Higher Education Act of 1997. Both have broad implications for strategic planning at institutions of higher education nation-wide. The provisions of the Higher Education Act fall into three broad categories: s justice and equality; s responsiveness to the needs of the society; and s co-operative governance. An elaboration on each of these provisions is found below. Justice and equality The new framework is designed to meet the educational needs of South Africa through significantly changed national economic, social and political structures.2 It seeks to guide fundamental changes in higher education to correct, redress and overcome the legacies of apartheid, so that higher education becomes more socially equitable and promotes social justice more generally. The government makes a commitment to ‘equity, justice, and a better life for all’.3 The White Paper stipulates greater efficiency in terms of student throughput and output rates and in terms of the success rates of black students. Social responsiveness The national framework seeks responsiveness to address societal interests and needs by producing graduates who are equipped to participate in a globally competitive economy, enabling them to contribute to the reconstruction and development needs of society. Specifically, the White Paper calls for shifting enrolments towards science/technology and career-oriented fields and programmes, and urges the growth of basic and applied research within...

...Running head: WRITING AN ARGUMENT PAPER Writing an Argument Paper University of Phoenix Management – MGT521 Instructor: Diane Hunt-Wagner August 20, 2012 Writing an Argument Paper The purpose of this paper is to raise and counter objectives regarding the decision to obtain a Masters of Business Administration (MBA). The impact of education on earning potential, job security, and becoming an entrepreneur will be examined. This paper will also discuss how raising and countering objections has been an aid in my own decision to get an MBA and how I embraced my decision to go back to school. Objections will be raised for reasons not to pursue a graduate degree and referenced information will be sited to support the raising and countering of the content. Why an MBA Raising Objections Business schools have long sold the promise that, like an F1 driver zipping into the pits for fresh tires, it just takes a short hiatus on an MBA program and you will come roaring back into the career race primed to win. After all, it signals to companies that you were good enough to be accepted by a decent business school (so must be good enough for them); it plugs you into a network of fellow MBAs; and, to a much lesser extent, there's the actual classroom education. Why not just pay the bill, sign here and reap the rewards? The problem is that these days it doesn't work like that. Rather, more and more students are finding the promise of business schools to be hollow. The return...

...Accounting Standards Boards Paper Kristi Crow ACC/541 Accounting Theory and Research September 30, 2015 Valerie Turnbow The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) is the accounting board used in the United States. The FASB is tasked with improving and establishing the standards of financial accounting and reports for education of the public (Schroeder, Clarke, Cathey, 2011). The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) is the accounting board used to simplify the process for those seeking capital or investment opportunities across national boundaries. In this paper we will discuss the history and relationship of both the FASB and the IASB. Additionally we will discuss how the Masters of Science in Accountancy (MSA) will prepare students for a career in the vocation of accounting. FASB and IASB history The FASB was created in 1973 after the Wheat Committee, chaired by Francis Wheat suggested that the Accounting Principles Board be abolished and a new board created. The FASB was to be comprised of representatives from a variety of organizations and be full-time paid employees. The FASB has an advisory council that will keep them updated on major policy issues, as well as the selection of task forces. This council is known as the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council (FASAC). The IASB was also created in 1973. The IASB is an independent private sector body. The IASB has two main objectives. The first being to formulate and publish in...

...infrastructures are connected, monitored, and managed through the use of technology. Nearly every human has access to a piece of technology. Even in remote locations around the world, technology is being used to bring people together (Macintyre, 2011). The workplace has also been significantly impacted through the adoption of technology. In a recent study published by the Corporate Leadership Council (2013b), globalization, economic change, and consumerization have created new realities for the workplace. These realities include the need for greater interdependence, frequent organizational change and flexibility, greater knowledge intensity, and more technology choices – all of which can be managed through the use of technology (Council, 2013b). With this increased demand for technology services worldwide, the information technology sector is projected to grow by 22% between 2010 and 2020 (Lockard & Wolf, 2012). In response to this demand, a higher percentage of college graduates are expected to earn a degree in the field of information technology and enter the workforce. The NACE Class of 2012 Student Survey Report (Koc, 2012) indicated computer science majors ranked highest - at 69%, to most likely to get job offers. The future success of organizations rests on the shoulders of tomorrow’s workforce. By 2014, millennials will account for 36% of the American workforce and by 2025, 75% globally (Schawbel, 2013). One of the most prominent challenges that leaders will face during this...
