...UNIVERSITY OF PERPETUAL HELP SYSTEM LAGUNA College of International Hospitality Management Sto. Niño, Biñan, Laguna Theories on Tourism Development Catherine Evangelista H3A Ms. Gladys Joy Sabater - Tallorin Cohen’s Classification Cohen’s classification of tourist is based on the theory that tourism combines the curiosity to seek out new experiences with the need for the security of familiar reminders of home. Most tourists prefer to explore the destinations from a familiar base. The degree of familiarity of this base underlies Cohen’s typology in which he identifies four tourist roles: Cohen in 1972 developed a theory which is related to the behavior of tourists. He classified the typology of tourists based on their behavior into four namely; Organized mass tourists- these tourists travel in groups. They buy a packaged tour which is arranged in advance by a travel agent or a tour operator. Individual mass tourists- each member of the group has a certain degree of control over his time and itinerary and is not bound to a group. He makes his individual decision about his activities. Explorers- such tourists arrange their own trip. They associate with the local residents and try to speak the local language. However, they do not adopt completely the lifestyle of the host country. Drifters- these tourists avoid contact with other tourists. They stay with the locals and share their food, shelter, and habits. They are almost totally immersed in the host...

...Related Studies Rolando Tolentino (2012), The Virgin of Peñafrancia and South Border claimed that Translacion is a spectacle where in people from the Bicol region led by the church and the government and encouraged further by the media participate with the goal of the formation of a regional unity. In this activity, the image of the Blessed Virgin is carried on their shoulders by a congregation of sunburned and barefooted males known as voyadores from the Basilica to the Naga Cathedral. It is being practiced that those who shall carry the Virgin wear a different color than the other devotees joining the procession. It is also a belief that a woman should not go near the pagoda (where the Virgin stays as it is being carried). In other words, women are not allowed to participate in carrying the image. Also, there is such a belief by the Bicolanos that the presence of a woman near the pagoda indicates a disaster or an accident. The color coding process during the procession is but a screaming evidence of social divisions. Those who are carrying the Virgin on their shoulders wear a different color from the others to show that they are the lucky ones entitled to the privilege of holding the sacred image which many other devotees do not have the benefit to even touch. It also exhibits the idea of a patriarchal society where males dominate the crowd. Moreover, zooming in our gaze to the pagoda only, we already see a clear division. Though males were those privileged to touch and carry...

...1. Executive Summary As the word metaphor is all about finding similarity and meaning in two or more things that are not actually related to each other, often members of organizations based on the picture that is created in their minds associates and recognize organization to metaphors. The organizational culture and communication system determines the perception of the metaphors in the organization. Our research was carried out in the Dubai branch of XYZ Company, a Swedish telecommunication company, to provide an analysis of the organization by observing it from two metaphoric perspectives: the cultural and the political. Organizational culture encompasses values and believes of the founder and is reflected in the structure, the practices and procedures of the organization, determining the working atmosphere and behaviors of its employees. Through our research we tried to discover how the members of the organization perceive and portray their commitment in association to XYZ’s culture; its influence on decision making process and progress of the organization. Through the political metaphor, we view organizations as often formed and administered similarly to political systems, which can be run like autocracies, bureaucracies, democracies or a mixture of these. Within them, individuals and groups manage situations, personal or group interests through the use of negotiations, power and politics. They operate based on network of alliances just like in political systems...
