She felt that in order for her "nervous depression" to get better she had to set her self free and go on a journey/mission which involved looking for "The Yellow Wallpaper". The depression made her start seeing stuff mostly the stuff she saw was positive, but she saw some disturbing thing in the bedroom which appeared to her that had various shapes and...

...of dark craftsmanship, would have been required to “twist the sinews” of the tiger’s heart? The speaker wonders how, once that horrible heart “began to beat,” its creator would have had the courage to continue the job. Comparing the creator to a blacksmith, he ponders about the anvil and the furnace that the project would have required and the smith who could have wielded them. And when the job was done, the speaker wonders, how would the creator have felt? “Did he smile his work to see?” Could this possibly be the same being who made the lamb? The poem begins with the speaker asking a fearsome tiger what kind of divine being could have created it: “What immortal hand or eye/ Could frame they fearful symmetry?” Each subsequent stanza contains further questions, all of which refine this first one. From what part of the cosmos could the tiger’s fiery eyes have come, and who would have dared to handle that fire? What sort of physical presence, and what kind of dark craftsmanship, would have been required to “twist the sinews” of the tiger’s heart? The speaker wonders how, once that horrible heart “began to beat,” its creator would have had the courage to continue the job. ...For this discussion, I selected the debating issues on gender stereotypes as my opinion on this matter is unprejudiced. To come upon Disney Princesses as the topic of these debating articles somewhat made me ponder. Is this topic really worth debating? To start with, both articles seems to indicate the strong emotions imbued on them by their respective authors. Monika Bartyzel claim and argues that Disney has set standard in typecasting children into stereotyped gender roles by means of their toy franchise. What drew the final straw for Bartyzel was the reshaping of the physiques of Merida—main character of the movie Brave—into a customary figure that Disney Princess usually characterize. As an evidence of the problem of gender stereotyping...

...have learned a lot a while low grades indicate lesser learning. But no students have the same way of studying. Others may have put on really hard in reading books or memorizing statements and definitions while others do not; but in the end they almost have the same grades. This may conclude that we have different styles and habits in gaining learning. Some of us need to be motivated and sometimes rewards could be so useful. While others, on the other hand, treat reading like drinking coffee that they would not waste emotional factors and stuffs to motivate them. Truthfully, in each student’s study habits, it may be good or bad, these still contributes to the whole aspect of a students’ performance. There are many study habits that we can surely use to have an effective learning. Yes we may be different and our customs in studying may differ but still we use techniques to cope up with lessons we should ponder on. A learning style is an individual’s preferred way of learning. When an instructor’s style matches a student’s learning style, the student typically experiences greater satisfaction and a more positive attitude toward the course. Thus, students prefer certain methods of learning. And this can greatly affect the performance they would be doing therefore affecting their grades. If they see that their habits is effective, then they will more likely use it thus their grade will be higher. And it is other way around. If they find a style cannot...

...Over the years, she eventually turned into a lobbyist for the National American Woman Suffrage Association and in 1914, she contributed to Montana women gaining the right to vote (“RANKIN, Jeannette.”) With that information being known, one may ponder why would a woman suffragist, who just recently attained the right to vote, use her first vote in a political position to protest against war. Jeannette Rankin possesses noticeably similar morals to Minnie J. Reynolds, who believes that “The women produce the boys and the men take them off and kill them in war” (qtd. in Moskowitz). Essentially, in her mind, arguing for women and against war are closely associated, so she Paragraph on her actions destroying her After the World War I situation, Jeannette Rankin’s biggest supporter, her home state of Montana, even opposed her. This is revealed to Rankin when Wellington, her brother and campaign manager, said that, “Montana is 110 percent against you” (qtd. in Alter 156-7). Additionally, in...

Through the years the company indulged in several marketing programs to maintain their position in the market. The case starts with the president of the company, Marcus McGraw as he is evaluating various strategies presented from four of his most trusted managers, as the company’s position is under threat based on a report by the consulting firm, McTierman Corp. The report has analysed current market trends and how they are going to effect the marketing strategies of Oscar Mayer Foods. The report says that the company’s most prominent offering, red meat products from Oscar Mayer Foods is facing a serious decline in demand, which for the past couple of years is being offset by the increasing demand for the healthier white meat products offered under the Louis Rich brand. The McTierman report further goes on to suggest investment strategies in order for Oscar Mayer Foods to retain its market share and growth including added benefits to products from both product lines, strengthening via acquisition and/or developing new products to address the changing market demands. Next, he reads the memo from Rob Goodman, Louis Rich Category Manager. He starts off with pointing to the fact...

...Fate. Is There a Method To This Madness? Fate has been a gear to our society’s motor for an eternity and will continue to be just that. It’s truly what makes the world go ‘round and is what keeps people curious “Wait, what exactly is fate?” you may already be asking. Well, fate is the development of events beyond a person's control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power. In short terms, it’s stuff happening without your control, and most often as a coincidence or for the better. This thing called “fate” was an extremely relevant concept in William Shakespeare’s play, Hamlet, back in 1599, yet is still prevalent in yours and my everyday life 500 years later. Do you ever think about all the stuff you do everyday? You get up, shower, brush your teeth, get dressed, eat breakfast, do some last minute homework, talk to your parents, and get dressed before even heading out the door to school. That’s a lot of stuff! What if you take extra long in the shower and end up missing your ride, but that same morning someone brought a gun to school? No one was hurt, fortunately, but because you took that extra time in the morning you were absent from a possible dangerous scenario. Some might say it was that “supernatural power” that made you stay in the warm shower on that cold winter morning for just a little longer. I’ll let you in on a secret, those people are right. Things like this can happen everyday, little wake me ups that remind you to count your blessings and that some things...

...Literacy Narrative I have never been a real fan of reading. It used to sound boring and a waste of time. I honestly thought that reading would never benefit me in a source of way; but reading is beneficial to your body and mind. Put this in perspective, reading and writing is food for the brain. This might sound odd but reading has helped me in managing my stress. No matter how much stress I have had in work, school, or relationships it all just fades away when I immerse myself into a great story. Reading can even relax your body by lowering your heart rate and relaxing the tension in your muscles. Opening a book and letting yourself take the full effect of the story will help you to escape from the stressors of everyday life. Have you ever...

...isn’t helped by the pacing, which is an asset in suspenseful sequences but a detriment as the movie goes on. The revelations don’t come often enough to provide viewers with relief to the intellectual fog they’re living in as they watch this movie. Since this movie is so cerebral, in and of itself not a bad thing, I found it could not operate an emotional level nearly as effectively. My mind was completely invested, but my heart wasn’t. I became emotionally detached from the film from the sheer mental strain necessary to properly ponder the issues and narrative twists in the movie. Even Amy Adams, who gave her utmost, usually came across as just trying to bring emotion to the film with no effect. It simply never registered because I was too busy processing everything else on an intellectual level. So, while I liked “Arrival,” I cannot wholeheartedly recommend it. I do think people should see it, but be forewarned this is adult, complicated, deep stuff. The acting is good enough, the directing is quite good, the special effects serve their purpose and the score fitting. “Arrival” is just so much of a conundrum that I appreciate it more than I enjoy it. But any movie that makes you think as much as this one does is worth seeing....

...Literary analysis on “Trifles” by Susan Glaspell Gender roles continue to change with time. It has only been a very short time that woman have broken through their defined roles and begin to be equal with men on a total basis. In Susan Glaspell’s “Trifles”, the story challenges the gender roles through the events that occur during the course of the play and through their own inner workings. The story is set in the Literary Renaissance –Drama period and leaves plenty of room for female characters to shine in certain roles. The story provides interesting points that challenge the reader to step back and look at gender roles in a new light. “Trifles” is centered on several married couples and is presented around the point of view of female characters. The story takes place at Mrs. Wright’s home a day after her husband has been murdered. Much of the long script takes place around a conversation between Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters. The two women are in the home because one is the Sheriffs wife and the other is the wife of the Attorney. The story is presented as though Mrs. Wright is suspected of killing her husband and there is no doubt that she did kill her husband. During Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters conversation it is established that the two women are lashing out against their gender roles by withholding evidence from their husbands. In the story woman compare themselves to birds. Mrs. Hale openly speaks about Mrs. Wright “was kind of a bird herself” (Glaspell 169). It seems...

The only reason I probably still do is because this is my last year of highschool, thank gosh. Anyway, I moped out of my blankets and threw on some clothes. Thankfully, my parents have a pretty good amount of money, so I can stick up with the trends. I walked out of room and got on the elevator. ...Yoo Jung Kim Professor Mary Gareis ENGL 1102 14 April 2014 Poetry Research Essay Poetry possesses different arrangements depending on who writes it. Some poems may be written in free verse while others could be written in rhyme; the form of a poem is quite important since the form is important to how readers interpret a poem. In most forms of poetry, the meaning of the words is employed to decipher the overall meaning of the poem. However, due to E.E Cummings’ unique style of poetry, the poetic structure is what determines the meaning of the work unlike in that of other poets. The poem “The Sky Was” is one of many of E.E. Cummings’ unusual pieces of poetry, and to most readers, it being shaped like a wisp and having parts of separated words in each stanza makes it seem completely nonsensical. Strangely, throughout the poem, some words are separated into halves and thirds to create the shape of a wisp. “The Sky Was” had been purposefully arranged to appear to be a wisp of smoke coming from a train within the poem: “…a lo co mo tive s pout ing vi o lets” (14-21). However, that is not all that the poem is unique for. The work “E. E. Cummings's Parentheses: Punctuation as Poetic Device” states that “…physical aspects as typeface, layout, and spelling, participate in the creation of meaning, and ‘provide additional...
