...Sweet Tooth Inc., Case Study Recruiting and development of employees have always been a critical human resource function. Especially in unpredictable economic times, human resource leaders are concerned with stewardship of resources by having the right people in the right jobs. “Determining the human resources required by an organization involves identifying the jobs, skills and knowledge required by those jobs and the performance level of the current workforce. Using this data, you can forecast hiring or reorganizing needs for both the onboard short and long term” (Duggan, 2014). How many people to hire Sweet Tooth, Inc. has determined a need for 50 new employees to meet the needs of it new production line. In the recruiting process there is historical data of previous recruiting efforts that are known as a hiring yield. For every job this data helps the recruiting team understand how many total applications will be needed to meet the requirement. In this case 4,100 applications will need to be accepted in order to generate the 50 hires. Twenty percent, or 820, of the applicants will receive an invitation for an interview. Eighty percent , or 656, will accept the invitation. Only 15 percent, 99 applicants, will be offered a job, and 50 percent of offers made will be accepted to produce the final 50 needed to start the new production line. Recruiters Now that it has been determined that 4100 applicants will need to be recruited, the human...

...Ethel’s Chocolate Lounges Marketing 100 April 28, 2012 Ethel’s Chocolate Lounge Ethel’s Chocolate Lounge sounds delicious and inviting, a way to relax, unwind and enjoying a creamy delicious treat all at the same time. The Lounge seems like a place that I would visit from time to time with my friends and family. The president of Chocolate Marketing claimed in the case study that enjoying chocolate in a luxurious lounge is like taking a candle-lit bubble bath. That is exactly what I first thought while reading through the case, nibbling on a premium chocolate truffle and sipping on a creamy cup of hot chocolate on comfy sofa with friends and family. The prices to me seem reasonable but will definitely put a big influence on how often I would treat myself or my family to these indulges. 1. Describe the type of consumer buying decision that best describes the choice to indulge at Ethel’s. The type of consumer buying decision that best describes the choice to indulge at Ethel’s Chocolate Lounge would be the routine response behavior and the limited decision making. The routine response behavior is the products or services that consumer’s purchase frequently giving them low-involvement in decision making because the products are familiar to them. Limited decision making is the type of decision making that requires a moderate amount of time for gathering information and deliberating about an unfamiliar brand in a familiar product category (Lamb, 2011). This type of consumer...

...seconds, compared with .0024 seconds for touch and .013 seconds for vision. To be tasted, food molecules must fall into a cluster of cells called a taste bud, more than 10,000 of which are spread over the tongue, palate, and inner cheek. The taste bud sends a signal to the brain, which then determines everything from whether a food tastes “safe”—which in most cases means it’s not too bitter—to whether we enjoy it. In a part of the brain known as the anterior cingulate, tastes get married to an emotional reaction: disgust for rotten meat, say, or delight for a sweet strawberry. But while some tastes are innate—nearly all humans are born with a sweet tooth—there’s also evidence that taste can be nurtured. Studies have shown that babies prefer foods they first “tasted” in the womb, or while nursing. (Traces of certain flavors, including garlic and vanilla, turn up in amniotic fluid, and also in breast milk.) More recently, food scientists have found ways to manipulate our likes and dislikes. One chemical, extracted from a West African fruit, binds to taste receptors in a way that makes even the sourest lemon taste as sweet as lemon pie. Food scientists have jumped on the discovery, scrambling to devise additives that would trick our taste buds into perceiving sweetness in the absence of actual...

...sweeteners with low or zero calories ought to be able to assist with obese and overweight issues. Many research have been done to find the actually benefit of artificial sweeteners. Sweeteners benefit from being much sweeter than normal sugar and could reach up to 600 times sweeter than sugar which industries took advantage in cutting cost of their product and heavily promote the benefit side of artificial sweeteners. Studies shows that artificial sugar does help to cut sugar calories low but on the other the population is getting more over weight on correlation with the use of artificial sugar. People tend to consume more calories from other food instead. Real sugar allows your body to accurately determine that it has received enough calories, thereby activating satiety signaling. Without the calories, your appetite is activated by the sweet taste, but as your body keeps waiting for the calories to come, sensations of hunger remain. Nonetheless many have criticized artificial sugar but it does help to reduce tooth decay and give the privilege of diabetes to satisfy the sweet tooth craving. ...Glycemic Index for Sweeteners The glycemic index for sweeteners is a function of three things: 1. The amount of carbohydrate present. 2. The type of carbohydrate present. 3. The presence of other substances (soluble fiber for example) that slow metabolism of carbohydrates. Glucose has a glycemic index (GI) of 100 and fructose is 25. Sucrose (Ordinary sugar) which is made up of a combination of these two has a GI of 65. The search for a low GI natural sugar based sweetener is somewhat futile as they all contain combinations of the above, or similar sugars. Although fructose has a fairly low GI , it has other harmful effects and must be considered unsafe to take in large quantities. Agave Syrup has a low GI because it is mainly fructose. Agave has been delisted and banned by theGlycemic Research Institute of Washington DC because serious side effects were observed in clinical trials. Coconut Palm Sugar contains mainly sucrose and one would expect a GI of about 65. However it scores well in the glycemic index for sweeteners list. Tests have indicated a GI of only about 35. This may be partly because of other substances in it such as soluble fiber. However, the testing was very limited. More testing may well produce a higher GI. Yacon Syrup, scores best in the Glycemic Index for Sweeteners that are sugar based. It derives it's sweetness from Fructo-oligosaccharides, a type of sugar with a very low GI. It is probably the only truly raw, organic, natural, low calorie, and...

It has been ensured the information provided does not allow the recognition and follow up of this individual. The patient chosen for this portion of assignment is a 47 year old male who lives with his wife and two kids. He works part-time as a customer service manager and attends the practice every six months for a regular check-up, however due to his recent knee surgery; he has been unable to do so. This patient struggles with his weight and suffers from high blood pressure. To treat his condition, this patient takes ACE inhibitors every day. He also suffers from arthritis and takes Azathioprine as a source of medication. He has no allergies, smokes 10 cigarettes a day and consumes 25 units of alcohol a week. Patient A consumes fizzy beverages during and after his meals and snacks on sweets in between. Due to his poor oral hygiene and high consumption of sugar in his diet, he has developed caries in his lower left 6. It is evident that sugar consumption mostly in sticky form between meals increases the risk of caries (Felton 2009). His poor oral hygiene is reflected on the number of restorations present within his mouth, mostly in his pre-molars and molars. He also has a porcelain bonded crown present on the lower right 5...

...while work is shifting into a less physical nature. The high proportion of sugars in the American diet has a direct relationship to obesity and other related illnesses. Is sugar related to obesity and medical disorders associated in the American society? In order to become fully aware of the link between sugars and diabetes, we have to look at the features and nature of sugar. Sugar is a generalized name for a crystalline carbohydrate that is simple, edible and has a sweet flavor. The main types of sugar are sucrose, lactose, fructose and glucose. Glucose, also referred to as blood sugar is the one that circulates in the blood. Table sugar and fruits contain sucrose and fructose respectively. During the process of digestion, carbohydrates break down into glucose, which is the only form of sugar that the body absorbs. Sugars are involved in various body processes and intake should be per body requirements. An excess or a shortage of sugars usually leads to manifestation of a disease (Lustig, 2013). In this case, we will investigate the effects of over-consuming sugars and their contribution to obesity and related health illnesses...

...Institutionalized Murder MV Courage Pharmakeia or pharmakon? Mercury laced flu shots, dental amalgam, thimerosal, warfarin, digitalis, and pharmaceutical synthetics are considered medicine while natural herbs and essential oils are thought of as mere potions or even sorcery by the FDA and traditional pharmacology business commonly referred to as Big Pharma. Big Pharma, derived from PhRMA-the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, is worth roughly around 300 billion US dollars and wields enormous influence over modern Western medicine, insurance, litigation, government, and health with leverage from huge profits and about 3,000 paid lobbyists. Harvard Business School Professor William George asked, “Is the role of leading large pharmaceutical companies to discover lifesaving drugs or to make money for shareholders through financial engineering?” Pfitzer made a bid to buy AstraZeneca and Valeant Pharmaceuticals International takeover bid for Allergan have monetary gains of lower tax liabilities and another income stream. Biopharmaceutical companies are expensive to run under high risk-only significant profits will guarantee solvency. Clinical trials and drug development are chosen by the significant profit margin and medical breakthrough. For example, aspirin has been a generic drug since 1919 with a cost less than $6.00 for a year supply and may improve survival and reduce the recurrence of some cancers. But running clinical trials to prove or disprove the benefits...

...ershDominic Ciantar Ronnie Pollack Christopher Macuga Michael Evans Case Study Hershey North America 1. What are the advantages of targeting candy bars to adults rather than to children? The advantages of targeting candy bars to adults may be one that many people don’t understand but, there are some very important reasons on why some candy manufacturers do so. First off mothers determine children’s early taste in candy. Therefore, if a company like Hershey can target mothers to buy Hershey candy than their children are more likely to buy Hershey candy. In addition to targeting mothers as adults, research shows that adults eat more than 55 percent of all candy sold. This is the main reason why candy manufacturers target candy bars to adults rather than children. 2. Does targeting to adults require a change in image for candy products? Now that we understand why candy manufacturers target adults, next we have to understand the process of targeting this candy to adults. The most important aspect of this process is the image. Bite-size products are especially popular with adult consumers. When wrapped in seasonal colors, these products have tremendous appeal for adults during Christmas and Easter season. In December 1998, Hershey targeted the ever-growing snacking segment of the confectionery industry by transforming some of its most popular bars into “Hershey Bites.” Included in this range of products were Hershey’s Milk Chocolate with Almonds, Cookies ‘n’ Creme...

...| Roaches | The Apartment pest | | Timothy Osborne | 12/3/2012 | Roaches and other pest seem to be immune to most pesticides nowadays. In the past few years I have notice that regardless how much you bomb, spray or put out traps they always come back, sometimes with a vengeance. In most communities, mainly apartment complexes, management hire exterminators for preventative measures. But in most cases it’s already too late for that. In recent years there have been studies performed to see why this is and what can be done to fix this ongoing problem. Entomologists by the name of Jules Silverman and Donald N. Bieman conducted an experiment with German cockroaches that were gathered from apartments and a control group of cockroaches that were reared in a lab. Their findings were quite surprising as the insects grown in the lab had no preconceived notion that the poison/bait was dangerous the ones collected from the apartments would touch the bait with their antennas and quickly back off. The evidence gathered showed that the roaches that had been exposed to the different types of poison before were more weary and seemed to not be attracted to the glucose or sugar that had been contaminated by poison. Very few animals avoid glucose (Silverman 1993). This leads me to believe that over time insects and other pest are adapting to the use of pesticides that are normal used in apartments. The developments of other types of pesticides are being created and should be...
