The Four Way Test

...The Four Way Test is a very constructive guideline that is beneficial to many events and issues. If every citizen, every student, every human being used this test as a pattern and indicator for their dilemmas and obstacles, our community would become a more compassionate wiser place. The Four Way Test asks these questions: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it bring goodwill and better friendships? And is it beneficial to all concerned? Is it the truth? Telling the truth is extremely important because in the end it is all you have Truthful gives you credibility with others, and without credibility, we are nothing. Not only is lying dishonest, but when someone lies, they often have to cover up one lie with another, and may get their own stories mixed up. John 8:32 states, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Is it fair to all concerned. Fairness is also a quality needed everywhere such as school or work. Performing a fair task means that you are doing it out of you heart and not just because you want to improve your reputation or because you want to impress the person who asked the favor. A fair decision requires a fair and just judge. Making a fair decision is difficult especially if it is an area that is unclear and gray. When you ask yourself if something is fair you need to determine each side justly and without any persuasion or influence from others. Will it bring goodwill and better friendships? The definition of good...

...testing as a way to improve his or her work environment. In a survey recently taken, 40% of Fortune 100 companies stated that his or her employment selection systems included some form of psychological testing by an I/O psychologist (Shaffer & Schmidt, 1999). A similar survey that was taken by the American Management Association showed 44% of its responding applicants used testing to select his or her potential employees (Shaffer & Schmidt, 1999). While the most commonly used form of psychological testing in the workplace is the cognitive ability tests, personality tests are also being used more and more frequently. Psychological Tests A psychological test is a series of standardized problems or questions that assess a certain individual characteristic. Tests are commonly used to assess many KSAOs, including knowledge, skill, ability, attitudes, interests, and personality (Spector, 2008). There are three types of psychological tests used in the workplace to help differentiate between those used for pre-employment or retention. Essentially pre-employment is called the "recruiting radar." These tests are ability tests, personality tests, and emotional intelligence tests (Spector, 2008). Ability tests Ability tests are the ability or aptitude with the capacity to do or learn to do a particular task (Spector, 2008). For this reason and other reasons such as, the scoring errors that cost large amounts of money, and the fact that standardized tests are an imprecise measurement of teacher performance, standardized tests should be completely taken out of the education system. Iq Test's

...there have been many different ways that people have wanted to test someone’s intelligence, Unfortunately there are really no test that have been developed to identify the true intelligences of a person, most of the test that I have come across seem to focus mainly on math and being able to tell where blocks should go and what shape they may make or what color the blocks will be if you were able to put them together inside your head and figure them out. Originally the IQ test was developed to detect people of lower intelligence to be able to place them in special educational classes. Intelligence refers to an individual’s performance of tasks that involves the manipulation, retrieval, evaluation, or being able to process information. We all know that those are aspects that are used in our everyday life. I think that most of our intelligence come from our surroundings and cannot really be based on a test that we take. I took the free online IQ test that was provided, there is no information given neither on who developed my test nor on how it was developed. Therefore I’m thinking that whoever has developed this test does not want to be identified, which could lead to many reasons why they may be but let’s just stick to one for now, “not a great source to test your intelligence”. This test also does not tell me how it was developed leading me to believe that they may have taken a few questions from other online IQ test and simply put it in their own...

Standardized Testing

...The debate of standardized testing has been going on for some time now. A standardized test is any form of test that requires all test takers to answer the same questions, or a selection of questions from common bank of questions, in the same way, and that is scored in a “standard” or consistent manner, which makes it possible to compare the relative performance of individual students or groups of students. While different types of tests and assessments may be “standardized” in this way, the term is primarily associated with large-scale tests administered to sizeable populations of students. Standardized tests comprise a very important role in student’s education. Many children will take at least one standardized test every year, which means many teachers will spend significant class time on test preparation. The results can reflection the teachers' efforts as well as that of the students. In some states, standardized tests are the yardstick for determining whether a child gets to progress to the next grade level. Many parents want to know the purpose of standardized tests. The answer is that these tests help evaluate the performance of students, teachers, even whole school districts. The results provide information on a child's ability to learn new material, as well as his grasp of the material he's already supposed to understand. With that information, teachers can identify areas where specific students need more attention, while officials can identify the strengths and weaknesses...

Test There are various ways in which an individual can define test. A test is a system for accomplishing something such as observing behavior and illustrating it with the help of numerical scales or prearranged categories (Hogan, 2007). There are common elements between “tests". They test some procedure or device that bring forth information. The procedure or device gives information about some behavior, and the test are a systematic, standardized procedure (Hogan, 2007). Another definition of psychological testing is that they are a written, verbal, or visual assessment done to determine the cognitive and emotional activity of individuals (Health, 2015). Just because there are many ways to define test does not mean each answer is wrong. It depends on the subject matter at hand and how the individual chooses to define it. Standardized Testing Apaq

...Eduventures calculated that about 2 million students spend $2.5 billion a year on test preparation and tutoring” (Briody, pg.2). Standardized tests, such as the SAT/ACT, were created to compare students and give college admissions a solution to determine if the applied student would be “right” for the college. However more recently, colleges have been heavily relying on standardized test scores as the determining factor for admissions. It has led to a lot of disagreement; some believe that the SAT/ACT is a good intelligence test, others think that the SAT/ACT is not a fair measure of student’s skills, while the rest argue that subject tests, IB, and AP tests should be the scores used for college admissions. One side argues that the SAT/ACT is a fair, just and unbiased way of nationally comparing students. Studies reveal that the SAT/ACT is a good prediction of future success; as “Vanderbilt researchers David Lubinski and Camilla Benbow have documented...

Arguments Against Standardized Testing

...testing an accurate way to measure student success in the classroom? This seems to be the biggest question when it comes to understanding the issue behind standardized testing today. Some people, like Dr. Gail Goss, believe that “such testing gives the teacher important diagnostic information about what each child is learning in relation to what he has been taught”, while comparing that student to others all over the country. However, some leaders in education, like President of Hampshire College Jonathan Lash, believe that standardized testing in no way shows the true success of a student because it simply “reduce[s] education to the outcomes of a test, [and makes] the only incentive for schools and students to innovate in...

Standardized Testing

...Abolishing Standardized Tests Standardized tests should be abolished from schools. Standardized tests, like SOLs, are hurting students more so than they are helping them. These tests put a lot of stress on teachers and students. Test scores are used to show school improvement and how well the school is academically. Schools try to raise their test scores to make the school look better. In order to raise the scores teachers are being forced to teach to test. Teachers are only teaching students what they need to know to pass the test. These tests are forcing a curriculum and that is unfair for both teachers and students. There are many students who want to learn more and there are also teachers who want to teach more and go more in depth in a subject but they are unable to because they are required to just teach them how to pass a test. In class we hear our teacher say all the time, “...but you don’t need to know that it, it won’t on the test.” Many would think that standardized test is helpful to students because the main goal is to pass, and move up a level in school, but in reality students do not benefit from this at all because their sole purpose in learning these specific subjects are only by temporary memory. Standardized tests are so important in a students success in school. Whether or not the pass the tests determines if they pass the class. A student could do really well in class and then fail their test at the end of the year then in turn, fail the class. Not...

Validity and Reliabilty

...Course Instructor: Date of Submission: Without a doubt, one of the most important criteria that is used to evaluate the quality of a test has got to be the validity of that test. In definition, validity has been defined as the measure of whether or not the test being presented lives up to the expectations and requirements of what It does claim to measure. This measure is the intended cause for a test. A test will be considered to be highly valid if the items present in the test are closely linked to the initial intended focus of the test (Western, 2008). A lot of the certification and the licensure tests tae this issue very seriously. To them, the items present in the test have got to be largely related to a certain specific job or occupation. For a test that is regarded as having poor validity, it usually has not measured up to the job-related content. The test is not up to the competencies that it ought to. Thus, there is usually no justification for using such a test since the results that will be obtained will not be reflective of the intended purpose of the test (Western, 2008). Because of these elements that differentiate between a valid and an invalid test, there are a number of ways that have been put forth to help estimate the validity of a test. Four major ways have been used to estimate the criteria for estimating how valid a test is (PTI, 2006). These four are: • Content validity. • Concurrent validity • Predictive validity and • The face validity. 1. Content...

...Are Test Scores a Good Indication of School's Competency?? Aseel Hesham Al-Halees 201212087 Al-Yamamah University Ms. Amira Al-Menier PHL 101 7 March 2014 Are Test Scores a Good Indication of School's Competency ?? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Competencies are probably the most closely related to abilities. The term ability normally means either able to do or a special talent; while competencies relate more to expertise and experience. Competencies can be thought of as the state or quality of being well qualified to perform a task. A person gain competency through education, training, experience and natural abilities. However, every parent wants for their children the best education. To have a good education they must determine which school is the best. There are so many ways to measure the competency of schools and test scores are not a good way. So, test scores are not a good indication of school's competency. The first reason why tests scores are not good indication of school's competency is test score only show if students memorized the information or not. It only proves if the students can remember the important facts. For example, when students take a vocabulary test, students only remember how to spell the word and the definition of the word. Students will not remember how to use the word in its correct context. As with all tests, the figures are simply on indication of how well...

Validity- the test is a reasonable way to measure the client flexibility of the client because it test the clients hamstring and lower back. If the test is done properly the result will be accurate but if done wrong then the results would be wrong. Practicality- the test is very realistic because all it takes is one piece of equipment which is the sit and reach bench which can be found at any gym or can be brought online or in a sort store but the equipment can be very expensive which can be a letdown because not many people would want to spend lot of money on one equipment . The test fairly easy to set up all you need is a wall or a person to hold the bench so that the client can use it. Push up Suitability- this exercise is suitable to be done by any one, they only thing that can prevent some to do this type of exercise would if they have an injury in their shoulder or any other injuries in the arm. Reliability- if would to do the test again the results would not be the same because the test depend on the person doing it e.g. if the person has worked on that muscle group before then he or she would tried to do the test compare to some who has not worked on the muscle would have the advantage to do more.
