For my data collection, I will be observing behavior at three different location. The first location that I will be observing behavior is on Thanksgiving at the family lunch time. I am planning to observe all the adults at the Thanksgiving lunch. The behavior that I will be observing that the adult will be informal with one another, one trying to sound more knowledgeable than the other. They will talk over each other, correcting each other about the information that they know and learned. The next place I will observe is the mall. I think that most people will be going with their friends or their significant other. Most will have gone to the same shopping center. Most people will be talking casually to one another, joking around and making fun of each other. I also think there will be a lot of smiles and laughter. The last place I will at the place …show more content…
The conversations maybe about how their day went or gossip about another person.I am not sure what I will find but I think that I may see a lot of similarity but it may With the different places I chose there will be a base of similarity but it will mostly be different. At the thanksgiving dinner, the adults are more philosophical and always wants to be right about any topic. They may also pull situations about their community and put out ideas to make that community better or on how this person or that person should not have done this or that. At the mall, it will range from different age group and they will most likely be talking about their life and what they want. At my workplace since the people are older, it depends on who will talk to who. The ladies will talk more than the gentlemen for sure. The women will talk about how their day was and about other things, while the boys say hi to one another and would not have side conversation as much. With each different places, I think they will have different behaviors but there will be some

Black Friday

...Black Friday is the annual shopping holiday that occurs on the Friday following Thanksgiving. It is mostly a shopping ritual to those people living in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Black Friday is a significant day to many retail stores because it is referred to as the start of the Christmas or holiday shopping season. The origin of the popular Black Friday dates back to before 1961, in Philadelphia, where it was formally used to describe the heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic. It was always seen as extremely disruptive to the Philadelphia Police Department and always transpired on the day after Thanksgiving and thus the name Black Friday came about. As the years passed, an alternative reasoning for the title came to be known which denoted that retailers traditionally functioned at a financial loss recognized as, “in the red” from the months January to November. “Black Friday” therefore signifies the point at which retailers finally start to return a profit, “in the black”. Over the years more and more stores have begun opening at extremely early hours to help consumers get a jump-start on the sales. Some retailers have even started the trend of opening up at midnight. The Black Friday craze is tremendously popular, so popular in fact, that many incidents including violence has been seen in some cities in the past. We wanted to research if Black Friday should be considered a ritual. Our research process included secondary and primary sources. Our primary sources were...

My Observations On Thanksgiving Day

...I am going with the observation choice one on observing two different conversations I witnessed over the break. I decided to pick this choice is because I knew I was going to be around several people on Thanksgiving Day. Both my observations were at my sister-in-law’s house in Gilroy, Ca. There were a lot of people having small talks and communicating. Obviously, I did not tell anyone what I was doing. I wanted to observe the people in their natural conversation and it was rather funny observing the two different conversations. I chose to observe the first conservation with two brothers named Ron and Brian with turn-taking. Ron is the older one where he talks a lot. He sucks the air out of the room. Ron is one of those people with a big personality who have a tendency to take over a gathering in a way that makes it all about him. Whereas Brian, who is the youngest in the family and is more inclusive in the family. Between the two, there were seldom in turn-taking. Brian was pretty much stroking Ron ego. Ron always seems to make it about himself. Therefore, Brian was not really taking his turn. When Brian did have his turn, Ron quickly took over and Brian was...

A Dream House

...up in the morning, what are some of the things you do before heading out of the door? Most people look at the weather before they leave home .The weather sets the mood for the day. It determines what a person is going to wear and even a person’s attitude for the day. For example, if it is fall time and rainy out, a person might wear rain boots and a sweater. Now think of the colors of fall; orange, brown, yellow and red, and the colors of the leaves. The color brown can make one feel cozy, snug, and safe. Orange is associated with stimulation, warmth, and happiness. Thanksgiving is during the fall season and it is a time to stuff your face, to be surrounded by family, and to be thankful. And these colors help to set the vibe. Everyone is cheerful , full of laughter, and hungry. These feelings are asscosiated with the color yellow. Red symbolizes love and life and is mainly what people are thankful for on thanksgiving. Now back to the wet and slippery situation. When it is dark and stormy outside people tend to feel drowsy, sleepy, or even sad. Spring time gets the most rain typically in the western hemisphere. Spring time is one of the most crucial seasons for suicide. In the U.S. at least 30,000 people commit suicide each year. The suicide rates worldwide outweigh deaths involving accidents and homocides combined. IT is a popular belief that suicided rates peak during the spring. Bed Bath & Beyond - Environments Perspetive

...domestic merchandise retail stores across the US, Puerto Rico, Canada and even New Zealand. They primarily sell goods for the bedroom and bathroom but have expanded to the kitchen, dining room and seasonal items as well. Since its main competitor Linens ‘n Things liquidated, BB&B has few remaining retail competitors that include Wal-Mart, Target and of the smaller variety, Pier 1 Imports. Companies like Crate & Barrel and Williams Sonoma are also considered competitors but are more specialized and upscale than the merchandise sold at BB&B. After leaving the store with the wine bar that I was looking for and some observation of the store and its surrounds, I was able to reflect on what I noticed from an environments perspective. The first thing that is noticeable is how the store predominantly places its seasonal items, in this case Thanksgiving, right at the front entrance. Another very noticeable and convenient thing is how the products in the store are laid out. The products and sections flow very nicely from kitchen to dining, bedroom sets to bedding, and bath and bathroom accessories. It makes traveling the store and locating items fairly easy. Lastly, what is very noticeable about the environment is friendliness and accommodating the staff is. Several times I was approached by a representative asking me if I needed help finding anything or making sure I had everything I was looking for. They also were very...

Organizational Culture: Macy’s

...8, 2015 Dr. Rachael Dilts Organizational Culture: Macy’s Organizational culture is defined as an organization’s values, behaviors, expectations, experiences, and philosophy. The main idea of organizational culture is what behavior and values contribute to the organization’s social and psychological environment. Organizational culture is also known as corporate culture and is shown by how the organization treats its employees, customers, and the community. It also is shown through the way the company conducts business. Organizational culture success can be measured by a company’s productivity and performance. Successful organizational culture provides guidelines for service, product quality, and safety. Success can also be seen through attendance and punctuality of employees. Every organization has a unique culture, and if that culture is not successful, it is hard to change ("Organizational Culture", 2015). Macy’s: The Company Macy’s was founded by Rowland Hussey Macy in 1859 and was nothing but a single dry goods store in New York City. Over the years, Macy’s has grown to be one of the nation’s top retailers in fashion and affordable luxury. Macy’s attributes its success to its employees. Macy’s has many successes including; being the first retail store to promote a female into an executive position and starting the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The parade was organized by immigrant workers at Macys in 1924 to celebrate their new American heritage. Macy’s is devoted...

An Examination of Antwone Fisher

...An Examination and Reactions to the Movie Antwone Fisher MCPY 600 August 16th, 2007 The movie, Antwone Fisher is a wonderful and thought provoking film full of symbolism, pain, and hope. Antwone Fisher takes the audience through a journey of various subsystems of communities: prison, orphanage, foster care, homeless shelter, and the Navy. However a community encompasses more than a system. Community is ever changing, evolving, and interacting with the needs of the people developing into their own. Communities are influenced by environment, political climate, and economy. We watch Antwone Fisher dream of his perfect family, and the need he has to make a connection with his past. However, the journey he goes through with the help of his Psychiatrist, Dr. Davenport and his girl friend Cheryl, is trying, sometimes turbulent, and full of pit-falls. Antwone reaches his own epiphany when he learns who he is, meets his family, and is able to trust others while overcoming his fear of rejection and abandonment. As I watched the events unfold through Antwone’s eyes, I asked myself what specific influences kept him from turning to violence and crime on the streets. I find those answers by carefully examining the progression of events, Antwone’s choices, positive influences, as well as looking at the meaning and symbolism behind the scenes. The first scene of Antwone Fisher sets the tone for the character development...

Religious Traditions

...Elements of Religious Tradition Elements of Religious Tradition Religious traditions are practices followed for generations. These customs are normally reenactments or symbolic activities done in remembrance of an event. The Christian faith practices a tradition of Holy Communion or Eucharist. Communion is a ceremony where church members eat bread and drink wine in an intimate encounter with Christ. A reenactment of the biblical Last Supper, the church attempts to partake spiritually of the Lord, fellowship with believers, remember his mercy for salvation, and anticipate his second coming. Text The Baptist church refers to the Holy Bible for guidance on spiritual matters. Communion references are found in many New Testament books, including Corinthians, Matthew, John, Psalms, and Ephesians. Communion is a symbolic act of obedience memorializing Jesus’ death and a reminder of his return. Breaking of the bread resembles the Lord’s body broken and sacrificed for the forgiveness of sins (1Cor 11:24). Drinking of wine signifies the Lord’s blood, shed for atonement (1Cor 10:16). Teaching The Last Supper is a major event in Jesus’ earthly life. It is the last dinner the Jesus had with his 12 disciples. During this meal Jesus predicts his suffering and crucifixion. He provides followers with symbols of remembrance of his sacrifice; the bread and wine as his body and blood. Jesus describes principals for a Christian life and hope of his return for his people. Faith, Freedom, and Public School Notes

...Running Head: NOTES 1 LIBERTY UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF EDUCATION FAITH, FREEDOM, AND PUBLIC SCHOOL NOTES Session 1 Notes Legally Supported Abington School District v. Schempp Many people think this is the case that the Bible had been thrown out of public schools, but it was really the type of Bible reading that had been thrown out of Schools. There was a PA law that said, “At least ten verses from the Holy Bible shall be read, without comment, at the opening of each public school on each school day. Any child shall be excused from such Bible reading, or attending such Bible reading, upon the written request of his parent or guardian.” Edward Schempp challenged this law saying that the state should not be making Bible reading mandatory. The Supreme Court favored Schempp and declared “this type” of Bible reading in the public schools to be unconstitutional. They did however say, “It certainly may be said that the Bible is worthy of study for its literary and historic qualities.” Florey v. Sioux Falls School District This federal case dealt with Religious Holidays. The Sioux Falls school policy read, “Music, art, literature, and drama having religious themes or basis are permitted as part of the curriculum for school sponsored activities and programs if presented in a prudent and objective manner and as a traditional part of the cultural and religious heritage of the particular holiday.” ...

Transportation Security Administration

...The Transportation Security Administration is an agency of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that exercises authority over the security of the traveling public in the United States. The TSA was created as a response to the September 11, 2001, attacks. The organization was charged with developing policies to protect U.S. transportation, especially in airport security and the prevention of aircraft hijacking. With state, local, and regional partners, the TSA oversees security for highways, railroads, buses, mass transit systems, pipelines and ports. However, the bulk of the TSA's efforts are in aviation security. “Most of TSA’s workforce is Transportation Security Officers. About 50,000 TSOs screen 1.8 million passengers every day at airports all over the country. The TSA has taken several steps in recent years to promote continued education, foster a safe and productive work environment, and identify and reward outstanding performance.” (Transportation Security Administration, 2013) However, it seems the TSA is more interested in the appearance of security than actual security. The TSA has a huge task of ensuring security at different check points of the country. Over the last few years, they have maintained strict security measures because of the few incidents that took place at different intervals of the year. Their major task is to ensure security at the airports and they conduct security checks of the passengers with the help of various procedures. The security...

Twitter Mood Predicts the Stock Market

...Article history: Received 15 October 2010 Received in revised form 2 December 2010 Accepted 5 December 2010 Available online 2 February 2011 Keywords: Social networks Sentiment tracking Stock market Collective mood a b s t r a c t Behavioral economics tells us that emotions can profoundly affect individual behavior and decisionmaking. Does this also apply to societies at large, i.e. can societies experience mood states that affect their collective decision making? By extension is the public mood correlated or even predictive of economic indicators? Here we investigate whether measurements of collective mood states derived from largescale Twitter feeds are correlated to the value of the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) over time. We analyze the text content of daily Twitter feeds by two mood tracking tools, namely OpinionFinder that measures positive vs. negative mood and Google-Profile of Mood States (GPOMS) that measures mood in terms of 6 dimensions (Calm, Alert, Sure, Vital, Kind, and Happy). We cross-validate the resulting mood time series by comparing their ability to detect the public’s response to the presidential election and Thanksgiving day in 2008. A Granger causality analysis and a Self-Organizing Fuzzy Neural Network are then used to investigate the hypothesis that public mood states, as measured...
