Introduction
In this essay I will be discussing ‘the best way to manage people’. Moreover, I will demonstrate a clear understanding whilst applying significant theory as well as relevant case study material gathered whilst studying the ‘Managing People’ module, in order to support my arguments. In relation to the overall theme of my essay the inclusion of a further sophisticated discussion of the main features based around the assignments criteria will be critically evaluated throughout. The main key areas I will articulate clearly are as follows : Culture’s impact upon people management, the issues a manager of groups and teams needs to consider, the limitations of leadership theory for management practice, managerial practises ensuring their workforce is motivated, management ethics and possible dilemmas that may occur. All five of the assignment’s main features will be conversed in detail in conjunction with concluding either the ‘one best way’ or a ‘holistic approach’ in terms of the ‘best way to manage people’.

A key term associated with people management is organisational behaviour which is the study of human behaviour within organisations. It is a study that can be used to identify individual skills and differences in the workforce and how they can use these skills both individually and when in a group. The main aspect is that of structure within organisations and the various power dynamics used all being influenced by the time and space it is done within. Managers of organisations should use this as it can help them work with their workforce with great effect enhancing the prospect of achieving the business goals
How does ‘culture’ impact upon people management?
In an increasingly multicultural contemporary society, culture has now more of an impact on businesses worldwide than ever before. Culture has a massive influence on the way a business and the

The Polarity Map A. B. Above is the polarity map I created and as you can see the two poles I chose do represent a true polarity. The polarity that I have chosen is individual and team. This is a very good one to choose, because I think these two must be managed properly to have an efficient virtual team. When creating a polarity map you must have good polarity management, meaning that you need to find a way to get the best out of both poles, so for...

Four of the skills that can help manage time no matter where they are applied are; make a plan, maintain a lifestyle that provides the most energy, eliminate the unnecessary, and to reduce interruptions. What Is Management

...most value or get the best return. Management can be defined as: achieving goals in a way that makes the best use of all resources. This definition covers self-management as well as managing people, being a manager. Whenever you prioritize, you are managing your time. You manage yourself and all other resources at your disposal in order to do a good job. Leadership, by contrast, is about influencing people to change direction. When senior executives decide to change direction, this is seen as leadership. But because it is a decision, it is a management act - not leadership. Decisions flow from authority, leadership is an act of influence. Leadership is an attempt to influence followers. It's never a decision of any sort. All decisions made by executives are managerial actions. This is not the conventional view of leadership and management but, if leadership is an influence process, one implication is that there can be no such thing as autocratic leadership. Decisions can be made autocratically, but deciding for people is not a type of influence so it shouldn't be classed as leadership. The Meaning of Management We need to understand the meaning of management in order to know what management skills to develop. Time Management

...things going on in life we must learn to stop procrastinating, set priorities, and use planners for everything that we do. “Over commitment is then frequently followed by procrastination” (Managing Time: Experts Advise How Best to Keep from Wasting It, 1989). People tend to commit their selves to too many things and not worry about the time. They just keep saying they are going to do it and just keep pushing it back and procrastinating. How many times have we said we are just going to do it later, and them find ourselves rushing to do it because we are at the deadline…? too many. Prioritizing your daily task is a good way to help manage your time and not procrastinate. Put your priorities in order of importance, and do not let anything distract you from your task. Yes, things happen that you can’t control that might hinder your accomplishments but it is your responsibility to get back on track once the incident is over. Karen Flaherty of Compass Group, Limited of Birmingham said “Don’t schedule every moment of the day; leave time for catch up.” Using a planner to help you with your task is another way to help you manage your time. “the significance of planning gives people a way to be more aware of time” (Managing Time: Experts Advise How Best to Keep from Wasting It, 1989). To connect these things to my everyday life I will start to make a list and prioritize my list in order of importance so that I know exactly what I have to do right away. Also I have to really...

...Is there a way to manage a manager? This might be a valid question but “Managing your boss” sounds devious, right? It sounds like a team is up to brewing a heckler’s game of manipulation to topple down a boss. Hold that thought and be still, because no, managing a boss or a manager needs not to be understood that way, and yes, there are studies and management recommendations which talk about the appropriate ways of dealing with managers. If you are working below and down the line, there’s a way of overseeing the upper line without batting an eye, which means you do not have to move up the higher line to manage your manager. John Kotter and John Gabarro, Harvard professors and experts on management disclosed some truth about managers: They have desires to be managed by their direct reports or the team they keep, as much as they seek to find effective ways of managing the team. Why? Because they too, are human being with the same need as everyone else aside from being tasked with managing projects and people. They are the same people who would appreciate compliment rather than complain from among their direct reports. To manage them without having to feel threatened by their authority is an accomplishment Let’s go closer to home by looking at Filipino author Ernesto Franco’s framework: The 5 general style of Filipino managers: * Manager by “Kayod”. “kayod” is a term which refers to “hard work” or “sweating out” to achieve goals or produce something. This kind of manager tends...

Procrastination

...I wish I would just get it done and not have to worry about it. So I want to discover ways to manage my time effectively and hopefully stave off the ability to procrastinate. The information that I will gather will be about time management skills, how to keep a schedule and how to say no. I will research using Google to find how other people manage their time, and what steps they take to keep to a schedule. I will also research how to best manage a busy schedule and make sure that everything that needs to get done is getting done and how to recognize when I am procrastinating and the steps I can take to avoid those traps. I will look at articles, e-books and forums for information and tips. For my selected problem it is not necessary to have scientific methods to help solve it, I almost think it best to learn from others with the same concerns and the steps they took to solve it. So I think the forums are probably my best bet. I will also look for polite ways to tell people that I am not available. Especially since this is one of the major factors for my procrastination. I tend to say yes, just because what I really need to do does not sound like as much fun. I am not looking for extensive research and scientists and studies done on this topic, what I am looking for is tried and true methods that have worked for other people. I will evaluate what has worked for other people and “cut and paste” them together to make them work for me. An example would be that the...
