Summary In this book the author Neil Anderson discusses the different forms of spiritual warfare that many people can encounter. The problems some people endure may be due to psychological or spiritual reasons. The Christian worldview perceives life through the scripture and scripture clearly teaches that supernatural, spiritual forces are at work in this world (Anderson, 2006). Anderson gives a description of what symptoms and signs to look for when counseling people. People often complain during counseling sessions of physical symptoms, which disappear after they resolve their personal and spiritual conflicts and find their freedom in Christ (Anderson, 2006). He further discusses how to counsel people and how to incorporate biblical understanding and scriptures in the counseling sessions. Anderson discusses what the Word of Gods says and describes how to break the bondage that the devil bestows on people. This book is designed to help people understand the different bondage that the devil has on some people. The author descriptions and examples of the counseling sessions catch the reader’s attention and draw them in to want to read more. The description that the author gives helps future counselors to understand how to help people who are controlled by the devil. The book helps strengthen you and help Christians to understand that there is power in the name of Jesus and we as Christians have power over the devil. We cannot rescue people from the bonds of spiritual blindness or demonic influence unless we first overpower their captors (Anderson, 2006). Christian counselors must first understand the power of God before they can effectively help their clients. The author gave biblical scriptures to show how effective the word of God is against the enemy. In every example the author used to describe demonic activity in people, the author quoted scriptures from the bible which bound the devil and relinquished the client from the demonic activity that was causing problem in their lives.
Strengths and Weakness The strengths of this book are that it is very informative. The information is helpful for the reader. The details of demonic activity will help counselors to determine if their client’s actions are controlled by demonic activity. The author description of Christian authority and how we as Christians have the inheritance of Jesus Christ. Anderson exposed the different tricks of the devil, so it would be easier to determine what things were the works of the devil. In providing details on how to defeat the devil, it can cause people’s faith to be increased. The author also provided methods for protection against the devil. The three pieces of armor to protect ourselves from Satan’s attack are: the shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit (Anderson, 2006). Anderson also emphasized how memorizing a bible verse; listening to a sermon and participating in bible study will increase your faith. These different pointers will provide people with the necessary knowledge to defeat the devil. I did not see any weakness in this book. The author touched on every area that was of great importance. The only weakness I discovered was the lack of discussion on how to remain delivered from demonic spirits. There should have been more discussion on salvation and staying close to the word of God. After deliverance from demonic activity the next step should be to make sure that the demonic spirits do not return. In Luke 11:26 it says, “Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven others spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.” Many people do not think that demonic spirits exist today; therefore, it can make it difficult for these people to understand they had a demonic spirit controlling them.

Reflection This book has really amazed me and has been very helpful in understanding demonic spirits. I recently have had an experience similar to what Anderson was discussing. In the last three years I have tried desperately to find a job in my current career. As soon as a door was open it closed. My blessings were hindered and I could not figure out why. I begin to be in and out of depression and constantly wondered if I had done things to offend God and that was why I was being punished. I was constantly evaluating my life and constantly asking God what I was doing wrong. My depression at times was so strong that I often considered taking my own life, but the word of God would always remain in my mind. One Sunday while I was in church my pastor taught on demonic spirits. He discussed different types of bondage such as strongholds, legal ground and idol worship. He taught if an ancestor in your family practiced witchcraft then demons my feel they have legal ground to own you because you came from that same bloodline. I have always known before I was born that some of my ancestors had practiced witchcraft, but I never thought that it would affect my life because that was before I was born. He further discussed that if your ancestors practiced in witchcraft and you have refused to practice witchcraft then those same demons are mad and are causing all kinds of problems in your life. Well, I was approached a year ago by a family member who asked me if I wanted to learn how to do witchcraft. I told no and refused to hear anything else about it. My pastor taught that people who have demonic spirits controlling their life need deliverance. He gave some examples of people who needed deliverance such as suicidal people, homicidal people, depressed people and lying people. These are only few of the examples he gave for people who needed deliverance. He called all people who felt they needed deliverance to come to the altar for prayer. I immediately went to the altar to be prayed for. The pastor prayed for each person individually without even asking what they needed prayer for. He just looked in their eyes and begins to pray. When he got to me he looked at me and prayed for exactly what I needed. He bound any hold or rights that the devil thought he had on me through my bloodline and he commanded any demonic spirits to come out and to never return. After that prayer, I felt light and free. It is a feeling that is hard to describe, but I know that the Lord has delivered me from the hands of darkness. I have never felt anything that can make you feel so free. On Monday, I started receiving phone calls for interviews and the following week I had a new job paying. Different blessings started coming my way. I can truly say I have been delivered.

Theory Critique of Neil Anderson

...Theory Critique: The Bondage Breaker By Dr. Neil T. Anderson Concise Summary of Theory In his book, “The Bondage Breaker,” Neil T. Anderson seeks to reveal the why’s and how’s of spiritual warfare and exposes the many tricks Satan uses to take over the minds of many Christians. His tricks include outright lies, deception, and the lure of knowledge and power. Dr. Andersons approach differs greatly from the models we have studied previously in this class as he presents a theoretical model for overcoming negative thoughts, habitual sins and irrational feelings (Anderson, 2000). As well, Anderson seeks to clarify the nature of spiritual conflicts and offers a plan as to how they can be resolved through the power of Jesus name. Satan does not have equal power with God as he has been disarmed and is already a defeated foe, but if he can deceive people into believing he has equal power, than he wins. Anderson (2000) states, “You have been given authority over the kingdom of darkness, but if you don’t believe it and exercise it, it’s as if you didn’t have it” (Anderson, 1993, p. 80). All in all, Christians must believe and understand that Christ died on the cross to set them free, so therefore, they are no longer a product of their sinful past. Dr. Anderson offers a seven-step process in helping Christians find freedom in Christ (Anderson, pgs. 201-252). Step 1: “Counterfeit vs. Real” is where an individual must renounce any activity or group which denies Jesus Christ or...

Perilous Times

...Perilous times shall characterize the end time. Evil imagination and strange things will be happening, many false prophet and fake Christ will arise against nations, brothers against one another, disasters will be happening here and there, there will no longer be comfort but danger and discomfort. The world is in its perilous times now. Evil imagination and practices are increasing every day. God has warned against this. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 says, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come, for men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parent, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, truce breaker, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying the power therefore. From such turn away. “The judgment and wrath of God is coming upon the world and upon the children of disobedience (Col.3:6). But God in his infinite mercy has made a way of escape in Christ Jesus for every soul to be saved. John 3:16 says, for God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”1 Tim 2:4, “who will have all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” Acts 4:12 says “Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved...

Psychoanalytic Family Therapy Counseling Approach

...Running head: PSYCHOANALYTIC FAMILY COUNSELING APPROACH Psychoanalytic Family Therapy Counseling Approach Liberty University 2012 COUN 601-B05 LUO Dr. Jenkins Abstract When a family’s environment becomes saturated with chronic conflict the members become unable to achieve a healthy balance and mutual respect. This turmoil needs to be neutralized rather than exacerbated, in order to gain mutual respect for all family members. Family therapy can establish the reduction of conflict among the family system. Sometimes a family member can be diagnosed with a disorder creating anger and resentment among members. The family members’ symptoms can be manifested through fear, anxiety and trepidation with in his or her unique story (Mesh et Al, 2006, ¶ 3). The uniqueness of the family unit can carry through to how this system responds to counseling. A family can benefit from recognizing the signs of panic, anxiety, and or dysfunctional communication. This recognition can allow the family unit to seek counseling to neutralize family conflict and to gain effective coping skills. I enjoyed reading Worthington’s’ Hope Focused marriage Counseling. If their is one thing that I try to accomplish through the Lord everyday with patients and families is to re-affirm belief and give hope. Re-aspiring hope can be used in our life and in counseling as a core Christian value by making God first in our lives. As Christian counselors this means teaching others to continuously seek his...

North and South

... the North and South were somewhat different. By 1860, the North and South were on two different planets. What happened in the North and South to widen the differences? How did these changes affect the lives of all people in each section and their views on people in the other section? Be thorough and talk about economic, social, and cultural changes much more than political changes. The North and The South The North and South were very different by the 1860's. Several changes took place within the nation during this time from an onset of events happening after the 1820's. Inside of America, slavery became a major issue that tore the nation into two. Northerners favored equality for all, while contrarily Southerners supported the bondage of slaves to continue the labor of cotton productions, and ultimately, to ensure white supremacy. “After abolition in the North, slavery became the 'peculiar institution' of the of South – an institution unique to southern society” (417). This was also another large factor which shaped the regions. Overall, between the 1820's and 1860's, many economical, social, cultural and political changes happened which divided the nation into two. The occurrence of several events widened the differences between the North and the South. Despite the Northerners hopes that slavery would eventually die out and equality for all would regulate the nation, “the institution of slavery survived the crisis of the American Revolution and continued to rapidly...

Frederick Douglass

...Frederick Douglass, Narrative of the Life of an American Slave, Written by himself. New York: Blight, 2003. Frederick Douglass was known as the most important African American leader and intellectual in the 19th century. He became a major figure in the crusade for abolition, the drama of emancipation and the effort to give meaning to black freedom during reconstruction. He tells stories about the 20 years of living the life as slave to his amazing and courageous escape. Douglass portrayed the core meaning of slavery, for both individuals and of the nation in his narrative. His multiple meanings of freedom as an idea and reality of mind and body and of the consequences of its denial were his themes in the book. The narrative also uncovers Douglass’s symbolic strategies in moral and economic slavery, the master-slave relationship, the psychology of slaveholder, the aims and arguments of abolitionists and the impending political crisis between North and South. He believed in equal rights as throughout his narrative dreamed of being free and wondered why slaves where treated the way they were. Born Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey in Tuckahoe, Maryland. He never new his exact age as there was never any record of his birth. Not knowing this information made him realize early on that there was a difference and unfairness in equality as he commented on he never met a slave in his life who could tell when their birthday was or how old they were. He continued saying...

The Legacy of Frederick Douglass’ Hardships and Courageousness

...Frederick Douglass was a slave in America until the age of 20. He wrote three of the most highly regarded autobiographies of the 19th century, while he only began learning to read and write when he turned 12 years old. After an early life of hardship and pain, Douglass escaped to the North to write three autobiographies, which spaced along decades. He wrote about his life as a slave and a freeman. The institution of slavery scarred him so intensely that he decided to devote his powers of speech and prose to fighting it. Douglass wrote three biographies about his life as a politician, slave, and abolitionist. However, the historical value of these works does not remain as important as the quality of the works themselves. Frederick Douglass’ writing deserves recognition in the canon of great American authors, because his work meets the chosen criteria for inclusion in a collection of important literature. Douglass influenced many famous abolitionists with his literary works, and this impact, coupled with his desire to write an expose about oppression in America, makes him a winning candidate. Although his published works, mostly autobiographies, received much acclaim from abolitionists, this paper explores the quality of Douglass’s work from a literary standpoint. To fully appreciate the impact of Douglass’s autobiographies, we must examine violent period in which he lived. Douglass, born in 1818, grew up as a slave on Colonel Lloyd’s plantation in eastern Maryland. At the time...

Cognitive Behavior Therapy

...Running head: COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Abstract Counseling has been in existence from the beginning of time. From Jethro to Freud, therapists and philosophers have been seeking insight into the core of human nature and cognitions. Cognitive-Behavioral therapy (CBT) recognizes that faulty cognitions and beliefs affect the behaviors of individuals. One method of cognitive-behavior therapy, reality therapy, incorporates the concepts of free choice and personal responsibility that are taught both in Scripture and Dr. William Glasser’s choice theory. Other aspects of CBT, such as cognitive restructuring and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), also work towards eliminating negativistic attitudes of clients in exchange for more effective and realistic methods for interpreting the situations experienced in daily life. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy It is suggested that an individual’s personality is a complex system of cognition, emotion, will, physiology, and spirituality. Hawkins proposes nine aspects of the human self to be active influences on one’s personality: “body, cognition, feelings, volition, human spirit, Holy Spirit, sin/flesh/SAS, temporal systems, and spiritual systems (Hawkins COUN507_BO1_200920). Each therapist individually determines what factors they believe to make up a person’s being. Larry Crabb views humans as involving both the physical and spiritual aspects of man...

...SABBATHBREAKING Thus saith the LORD; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem; Neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye any work, but hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers. But they obeyed not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receive instruction. And it shall come to pass, if ye diligently hearken unto me, saith the LORD, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the sabbath day, but hallow the sabbath day, to do no work therein; Then shall there enter into the gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they, and their princes, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: and this city shall remain for ever. {Jeremiah 17:21-25} (HOLY BIBLE and SPIRIT OF PROPHECY) “Those who are not thoroughly converted to the truth frequently refrain from physical labor upon the Sabbath while their minds are left free to run upon worldly business and their tongues speak out what is in their hearts--cattle, crops, losses, gains, etc. All this is Sabbathbreaking. Hawaii Legends

...HAWAII LEGENDS: Introduction by King Kalakaua, 1888 Geography: Physical Characteristics The Hawaiian Islands occupy a place in the great expanse of the Pacific “between the nineteenth and twenty third degrees north latitude, and the one hundred and fifty fourth degrees of longitude west of Greenwich. They are two thousand one hundred miles southwest from San Francisco, and about the same distance from Tahiti. The group consists of ten islands*, including two that are little more than barren rocks. The farthest are about three hundred miles from each other, measuring from their extreme boundaries, and their aggregate area is a little more than six thousand one hundred square miles. Of the eight principal islands all are habitable, although the small islands of Niihau and Kahoolawe are used almost exclusively as cattle-ranges. The most of the shores of the several islands are fringed with coral, but their origins seem to indisputably show in the numerous creates of extinct volcanoes scattered throughout the group, and in the mighty fires still blazing from the mountain-heights of Hawaii. By far the largest part of the area of the islands is mountainous; but from the interior elevations, some of them reaching altitude of from ten to fourteen thousand feet, flow many small streams of sweet water, widening into fertile valleys as they reach the coast, while here and there between them alluvial plateaus have been left by the upland wash. With rare exceptions the...
