...Osas Odigie Mr. Aube Dec 11, 2012 Characteristics Of a Good and Bad Relationship 1. There are many factors that determine if a relationship could be considered either good or bad. Moreover, a good relationship can be determined by discovering the many factors that make it so. I believe that there are two stages to a good relationship: the beginning, and the ride. It is essential in every good relationship to have a good beginning. Every relationship begins with love and one does not need to be “in love” to be in a relationship; this is misunderstood between many couples. Anyway, love is the beginning of every relationship but in order for a relationship to be considered good, that love must remain constant or increase throughout the relationship. It is important for individuals to understand that in the beginnning, mistakes are prone to happen because there is no such thing as a flawless relationship. The ride of a relationship is basically everything else; the rest of the relationship. It is obvious that one does not show love through anger or hate and therefore there are specific ways in which love can be shown and these are what allows for a good ride in a relationship. Love can be broken down into five major parts. Respect, Trust/Support, Honesty, Responsibility and Romance. Respect is of the highest importance in every relationship. Individuals must view their spouse as equal to them and not greater or lesser. Couples must listen to to one another, valuing each other's...

...Sir Isaac Newton is the first human to understand the nature of rainbows, the white light passing through a prism and expanding to the 7 colors makes up the spectrum of light. Newton's prism experiment lasts for years, hoping to one day understand how all the colors together create white light. Through the process he creates his book, Newton's Opticks recording all his findings. The MITk12's video recreates what Newton possibly did to come about with the whole idea of the prism and the colors. It demonstrates the experiment and shows a few possible way of testing it. Some factors that affect the outcome of the experiment are the size, shape and distance that the prism is from the light. St. Paul's "Letter to the Corinthians" explains the love which surrounds the world in...

...as darkness is the absence of light, evil is the absence of God.” This brings me to the question of what is good and what is evil. Good versus Evil is a very subjective topic. I believe what is good and what is evil are based on my beliefs as a Christian and the scriptures of the Bible. In my opinion, good is having the acts and characteristics of God and in contrast, evil is the opposite of good or as Einstein stated: “evil is the absence of God.” To begin with, good is a characteristic of God. For instance, the Holy Bible describes God as love (John 4:8), great, powerful, glorified, victorious and majestic (1Chronicles 29:11 ); all of these can be synonymous with good. In the epistle to the Romans, chapter 8 explained that those who love God will have all things work together for good according to God’s purpose. When a person obtains the same characteristics and acts of God, they become endeavored with noble and righteous characteristics that are based on the unmerited favor of God’s grace. An example of this is the story of Joseph in Genesis. Joseph was greatly loved by his father and was given a coat of many colors as a gift of love. His brothers became envious of Joseph’s special treatment from their father. Joseph’s brothers sold Joseph as a slave. During his time in slavery, God blessed Joseph with ability to interpret the dreams of Pharaoh. The Pharaoh was pleased with the dream interpretations and promoted Joseph from slave to being second most powerful...

...Attachment Style and Relationships Laurie Henry Psy/220 November 10, 2013 Charlene Sears-Tolbert Attachment Style and Relationships Part 1 According to the Robert Sternberg triangular theory of love the three dimensions passion, intimacy and commitment all play essential roles in forming relationships. Passion mean strong emotion, excitement, and physiological arousal, often tied to sexual desire and attraction Baumgardner & Crothers (2009). These emotions can become overpowering and create feelings of love, joy anger and hatred. Intimacy involves closeness it is a special friendship, having a feeling of connection and trust. Commitment is the conscious decision to stay in a relationship for the long haul. Committed relationships are more serious because it involves a shared decision to invest in the relationship. Relationships are a major complexity in our lives. Forming these relationships and maintaining them have a great deal to do with our early attachment styles. Depending on how secure or insecure an individual is can determine their ability to give or accept certain components that build relationships. Early life disruptions to our process of attachment with parents will have major consequences for how we as adults will then deal with attachment as adults. This may show up as diminished capacity to modulate arousal of stimulus from internal or external sources, impairment in developing healthy relationships, and the ability to cope with stress (Siegel...

...Everyone needs good friends that can hold uphold good characteristics and Christian values. The characteristics of a good friend are honesty, love, service, loyalty, and receiving. •Honesty - Will you tell me the truth? The best gift that someone can give me is honest affirmation (don’t patronize me) and honest correction. (For more on this idea read this post). Not everyone has the “right” to speak into my life this way. This right is earned by the demonstration of the second characteristic… •Love – Will you love me when I’m at the top of my game? Will you love me when I’m in a slump? Love that transcends the “seasons” of life is the “stuff” that genuine friendship is made of! Some people call this “unconditional love.” •Service - Will you help me? Friends help one another. These last few weeks we’ve been blessed by our friends who have helped with meals, prep for the yard sale, words of encouragement, babysitting, etc. To all of you, we are grateful to have friends like you. Thank you for your help. •Loyalty - Will you “stick it out” with me? Will you defend me when I’m being attacked? Will you stick up for me when I’m not there? A friend is someone who would not have to change the conversation when you walk up. •Receiving - Will you receive from me? A friendship is only as strong as the neediest friend. If you’re always helping me but I do not help you, in time you will grow weary of me! BUT when you help me, and allow me to help you we strengthen one another and the relationship...

Emotions are as unpredictable as they are complex. Implementing Eleonore Stump’s analysis of love as well as the arguments for eliminating anger by Owen Flanagan and the Stoic philosophers, the new sentient robots should not be given the ability to experience human emotions because of their characteristics of destructiveness and unpredictability. Eleonore Stump argues that love is the desire for the objective good and union with the beloved. ...Valerie Smith Ms. Rose Kulich English 111.0016 8 September 2015 Dogs, human-like characteristics Dogs are cute, loving and playful just like little children. They seek attention and require lots of love and patience. They are like little time clocks, they know just when to wait by the door for their owner for a hug or to go potty. They are very territorial and sometimes over-protective. Dogs, like humans, exhibit emotions, often suffer from similar medical conditions or ailments and love unconditionally. One major characteristic of dogs’ human like behavior is that they exhibit emotions. For example, Barkley is a huge Bernese mountain dog. He weighs 140 pounds but is afraid of anything that walks. Although he loves the outdoors, he spends most of the summer indoors because of the heat and because he is terrified of thunderstorms. He literally cries and trembles during a storm. His owner has to reassure him that it is going to be okay. If they are watching television then Barkley is there by her foot only because he is too big for her to hold. He also sleeps in the same bedroom as his owner. Duncan is a very friendly Beagle who is also terrified of storms. His fear is so severe that his owner has to medicate him during a severe thunderstorm. Duncan is a mommy’s dog and always wants his way. He throws a fit if he is unable to ride in the front seat when they go on trips. Duncan throws tantrums often. Believe it or not, Maria Rosa is the smallest and the meanest of all...

...Qualities of an Epic Story in The Notebook What is an epic? An epic, by definition, is the telling of an epic hero’s story through the vast journey and sacrifices he makes. The Notebook would be considered an epic for many reasons. Some may disagree and say it’s just a love story that contains no characteristics, and no proof of being an epic. But in this paper the characteristics of an epic will be explored through facts and examples from the text and from today’s present life and culture. The epic hero, Noah Hamilton in Nicholas Sparks’ The Notebook states, “I am no one special, just a common man with common thoughts. I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me. And my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect, I've succeeded as gloriously as anyone who ever lived (The Notebook).” Some examples of the characteristics in The Notebook that proves this is an epic would include vast settings, the story begins in medias res, the characters have epic digressions and that the hero embodies the values of the culture. Because of how the story starts, media res would be considered the first characteristic of an epic that can be noticed in The Notebook. Our story begins at a nursing home in the south where Allie is being looked after due to her dementia. The nurse is in her room, attempting to have Allie come out and go outside for a little while until a mysterious man shows up. Now, we don’t know who this man is that has just entered her room, and we’re not...
