...Introduction Racial disparity and discrimination is not a new concept to any nation. In fact, many were built on the back of slave labor, whether the slaves were indigenous peoples or imported bodies. While many nations have undertaken measures to overcome racial disparity, others have encouraged racial democracy. Brazil, a modern and industrialized nation, suffers from racial discrimination based on their position in the world economy and built on the ideology of the past. History Brazil’s history is rife with racism and slavery, dating back to its discovery by Pedro Alveres Cabral in 1500. Brazil was originally settled with the intention of harvesting Brazilwood. However, over time the profits from that were supplanted by sugar, which soon became the major export (Phillips 117). Over a short period of time, Brazil became the leading producer of sugar in the Atlantic world. The production of all these exports meant cheap labor was needed. During this time, the Portuguese were sending between 4,000 and 5,000 slaves per year to Brazil from Angola and West Africa; by the 18th century, one million slaves had been imported (117). The continually shifting landscape meant that Brazil’s exports continued to shift. By the time the 19th century came around, Brazil’s major export was coffee as sugar production had shifted to the Caribbean Islands. The continued influx of European slaves and citizens resulted in an uneven population. European labor was generally more skilled...

...Assessment 1 The constant improvement of technology has changed people's lives greatly. This essay concentrates on the digital revolution and the digital divide in the world today. Many today's technology achievements and improvements of people's quality of life should owe to the digital revolution. Digital revolution, which is also named the third industrial revolution or the third technological revolution, means the innovation of computers and the repaid spread of the communication equipments and it includes the revolution of the society and the technology, which usually refer in particular to the arguments created when these technology widely used (H.Jenkins & D.Thorburn, The Digital Revolution, the Informed Citizen, and the Culture of Democracy, 2003, p.1). However, this revolution can to some extent be a wicked problem for its search of solution could never stop and each solution of a digital solution is always a "one-shot" operation as well as the difficulty to generate a solution immediately or ultimately (J.C.Camillus, 2008, p.100). As for the first one, since digital industry is an emerging industry, the problems of the digital revolution can hardly be clarified in the foreseeable future (J.C.Camillus, 2008, p.100). Thus, the same as the wicked problem, the digital revolution has no stopping rule as well since it needs to keep finding new solutions for new problems (J.C.Camillus, 2008, p.100). For the second one, because of the lack experience in the digital industry...

...in 2009 requesting two million dollars to bridge the digital divide within our community. The grant was approved and a motion to coordinate a curriculum develop project has been accepted by the schools board committee. The goal of this project is to integrate technology among all middle schools that is at present an underserved community with limited access to technology. All stakeholders will be compiled into committees and a point of direct contact will be delegated for each group. After all decisions have been made and the implementation phase begins, the program will receive formative and summative evaluations that will continue to occur as for the duration of the program. Power in Technology The Houston County School District, plagued with a high crime rate, high unemployment, and extreme poverty, has found itself deficient of the skills needed to perform day-to-day-tasks. Many of the people in this community have been impacted by deficiencies passed down from generation to generation. For example, some of the women who currently receive governmental assistance (public housing, welfare and food vouchers) are descendents of those who received the same assistance. This sometimes extends as far back as 4 generations. With this taken into consideration the Houston County School District (HCSD) has hired, Bridgett Standring, to assemble a community wide committee to address the digital divide that now exists within its district. Learning Gap (wow really...

...Name Class Date Guided Inquiry • Skills Lab Chapter 11 Lab Modeling Meiosis Problem How does meiosis increase genetic variation? Introduction Most cells in organisms that reproduce sexually are diploid. They have two sets of chromosomes and two complete sets of genes. Gametes are an exception. Gametes are the cells that combine during sexual reproduction. In animals, these cells are called sperm and eggs. Gametes are haploid cells with only one set of chromosomes. Meiosis is the process in which haploid cells form from diploid cells. In this lab, you will model the steps in meiosis. You will make drawings of your models. You will also identify points in the process that can lead to greater genetic variation. Skills Focus Use Models, Sequence, Draw Conclusions Materials • pop beads • magnetic centromeres • large sheet of paper • colored pencils • scissors Safety Do not direct the points of the scissors toward yourself or others. Use the scissors only as instructed. Pre-Lab Questions 1. Control Variables Why must you use the same number of beads when you construct the second chromosome in Step 1? Name Class Date 2. Infer Why is the longer chromosome pair used to model crossing-over? 3. Calculate A diploid cell has two pairs of homologous chromosomes. How many different combinations of chromosomes could there be in the gametes? Procedure The diploid cell in your model will...

...In computer science, divide and conquer (D&C) is an important algorithm design paradigm based on multi-branched recursion. A divide and conquer algorithm works by recursively breaking down a problem into two or more sub-problems of the same (or related) type, until these become simple enough to be solved directly. The solutions to the sub-problems are then combined to give a solution to the original problem. This technique is the basis of efficient algorithms for all kinds of problems, such as sorting (e.g., quicksort, merge sort), multiplying large numbers (e.g. Karatsuba), syntactic analysis (e.g., top-down parsers), and computing the discrete Fourier transform (FFTs). On the other hand, the ability to understand and design D&C algorithms is a skill that takes time to master. As when proving a theorem by induction, it is often necessary to replace the original problem by a more general or complicated problem in order to get the recursion going, and there is no systematic method for finding the proper generalization. The name "divide and conquer" is sometimes applied also to algorithms that reduce each problem to only one subproblem, such as the binary search algorithm for finding a record in a sorted list (or its analog in numerical computing, the bisection algorithm for root finding).[1] These algorithms can be implemented more efficiently than general divide-and-conquer algorithms; in particular, if they use tail recursion, they can be converted into simple loops...

...Beginning to End: An Overview of Systems Analysis and Design . Classroom Discussion Activities Note: For the purpose of Classroom Activities, there is usually not a ‘model answer’ to each question in the discussions. From week 2 onwards, answers will not be provided for Classroom Activities in the Tutorial Solution File. 1. Discuss what to do, i.e. what are the steps, to build a system. Discuss by giving an example, such as a patient monitoring system for a dentist, or an inventory tracking system for a small business. Ask: How to build this system for the owner (who is a good friend)? Note: Be careful to make your example large enough that it is not simply a "cottage industry" single person application where the student just builds something that is already in his/her head. Consider the following questions: ← How do you find out exactly what the user needs the system to do? ← How do you remember what the user tells you about what it must do? ← How do you know what information is important to keep? ← How do you make sure it does what it is supposed to do? ← How do you divide up the work, if there are two or more of you working together? The answers are expected to differ in each separate tutorial class based on the types of project experience that the class students have brought along with for the discussion. The discussion allows all members in the class to share the experience of the others. ...

...or an Organization has in its account. The more balance of cash in the account, the more healthy the person financially, and the more trustworthy is the organization. The business progress depends upon the financial status of a company. Respect depends upon the financial status of a person in this world.” From those definitions, we can conclude that Financial Status has to do with our savings, expenses or either way how we earn. As simple as that, but this is also connected with business, but since we are on Basic Statistics field, let’s just move along to topic. Why is it included in Basic Statistics? We all know that, this course, program or subject deals with analysis, report, collection, interpretation and presentation. And Financial Status includes reports, statements, etc. One more thing is Financial Analysis can either be Inferential or Descriptive Statistics, Why? It could be Inferential, if you have to go on with estimating or forecasting your future Financial Status, and surely it would be very difficult to make a forecast of your projected expenses for the next...

You must view the entire film. If you can’t access films because of deployment, geographic location, or other reasons, please let your instructor know so they can give you an alternate assignment. • Please type you answers into this sheet. You must submit the worksheet two ways: 1) upload the worksheet as a Word document 2) cut and paste your answers into the student response box for the assignment. • You must answer in complete sentences, using a short answer/paragraph format. 1. What is the title of the film you picked? A Class Divided 2. Why did you pick this film over the others offered? I chose this film mainly because of the strength of the message that was taught by Jane Elliott to her class. The controversial message in 1968 could have had a very horrible outbreak of speculation from the school district as well as the parents of the children she was teaching. Mrs. Elliott sought to open the eyes of her students by placing them in an experiment where their eye color is a discriminating factor, I was intrigued because they were so young and I wasn’t sure if they would understand the meaning of what Mrs. Elliott was trying to teach. I was very wrong in my assumptions of course. 3. What is/are...

...process of diving consumers in groups based on their needs. There are four different segmentations that a company can base their product on and they are as follow: Geographic Segmentation divides the market into different geographical units such as the region, climate, zone, state, country, district or urban/rural area which one lives. Demographic Segmentation is based on the race, religion, community, language, gender, marital status, occupation, and income of the individual. Psychographic Segmentation is based on individuals who have the same interest and by similar or same products. Divides individuals based on social class, lifestyle, or personality traits. Behavioral Segmentation divides buyers into groups based on their knowledge or responses to a product. Description of Each of the Target Markets One of the target markets that I would like to reach will be the demographic segmentation. That’s because looking at some of the products that the Hershey Company products they are based around the females. ...Divide the market for this business offering into segments and describe each segment in detail. Make and justify a decision about which one (or more) of the market segments should be targeted. For a customer-driven marketing strategy, first, we have to segment the market, which there is no single way to do it. We should try and analysis different segmentation variables and then decide which one or which combination we should targeted. There are four major segmentation variables for consumer markets which are geographic segmentation demographic segmentation psychographic segmentation and behavioural segmentation. First, we are going to think about the geographic segmentation which dividing a market into different geographical units. Our business idea will allocated in Saskatoon, however, for the rural community are also lack of the service of acting school, so we should spreading our advertisements all over the small towns around Saskatoon which means we are focus on the Saskatoon local people and also the rural community around the city. So, from geographic segmentation, our major target would be the population from Saskatoon and rural community around the city. Second, we are going to think about demographic segmentation which divides the market into segments based on variables such as age, gender, family size, life cycle, household income. Since our business idea is acting studio which is more attractive to young people, so I think our major target would be from 15 to 25...
