Murray argues (2008, p. 130) that size acceptance helps to “position the ‘fat’ body as part of a counter-aesthetic where ‘fatness’ is re-hierarchized over thinness as the superior feminine bodily form. This may seem empowering to ‘fat’ women who have uniformly been denigrated, devalued, and regarded as grotesque in the context of dominant aesthetics”. Hence, more and more people are becoming interested in unpacking and changing the stigma around the “docile body” formed by Foucault. “Foucault argues that power produces the types of bodies that society requires” (Pylypa 1998, p. 27).
