...Turn Your Automobile Green Turn Your Car Green Are you tried of paying high prices for gas? Are you tried of America relying on foreign oil to fuel our automobiles? In the last week, I have heard more and more friends, neighbors and co-workers complain that we need to finally get serious about pushing alternative-fueled vehicles. The only way this can happen is if we start now. I propose that us as Americans start investing in our own separation of foreign oil dependency. Case in point; the hybrid car is one which typically uses more than one source of power. Hybrids use an electrical motor to run the car and a gasoline engine to charge the batteries which power the electrical motor. The gasoline engine is also used to give the car extra power when needed. Hybrids get about twice the mileage of regular gas driven cars. Whereas the average gas fueled car gets about 20 mpg, the hybrid gets about 40mpg. Experts predict that hybrids could make up 30 to 35 percent of America auto market by 2015. However, if every body in America went out today and traded their regular gas driven cars in for hybrids, we could cut America’s foreign oil dependency in half. Another alternative to America’s dependency to foreign oil is Ethanol Fuel. The problem with this is, us as Americans need to demand it. We can’t set back and wait for the government to make it available for us years down the line. We must demand it now. Ethanol is a liquid fuel made from vegetable type sources instead of from oil....

...Lotus and Alternative Fuels Willis Jackson Jr. Comm/215 June 25, 2014 David S. Murphy Introduction For years, environmentalists have been screaming about going green, recycling, reusing products, and so forth. Therefore, the idea of our vehicles using alternative fuel sources would be a welcomed change. With dozens of vehicles and fuel sources becoming available, it is now possible to add alternative fuel vehicles to our rental car fleet. Through this presentation, I will fully outline gasoline and alternative fuel vehicles; the history, the sources of fuel, and consumer incentives will all also be explained. Gasoline vehicles Gasoline powered vehicles are the types of vehicles that are commonly used around the world. Gasoline powered vehicles utilize an internal combustion power train. Power train refers to the group of components within the vehicle that generates power. Internal combustion engines are typically associated with gasoline even though variations of the internal combustion engine can be fueled by other sources. The mainstream alternative to gasoline is diesel fuel. History of gasoline vehicles Self-propelled vehicles have been around since 1672 but were not introduced to mainstream America until 1902. Older vehicles were powered by steam engines, which gave way to the internal combustion engines that are powered by either gasoline or diesel fuel. Diesel fuel and gasoline both cause air pollution and play a role in global warming. The ever increasing...

Going Gree Article

...Aaron Thornton Source: 247wallst.com 10/27/2014 Published: 4/22/13 Week 2 Article Author: Paul Ausick MRKT 5000 Going Green Expanding Rapidly America is going green. Is this for the simply fact that oil supplies are getting low and gas prices are rising to unbelievable heights? Or is it that humans are honestly trying to save and truly care about the well being of our planet earth and wish to preserve it. A mixture of both could be the reason although it has been recorded that people with high credit scores that can get ecofriendly cars at low interest rates save a lot more money on gas in the long run. Whatever reason you believe the simple truth is that sales of Eco cars are on the rise. Out of 15 million cars sold in 2012 3.1% of those vehicles were eco friendly as compared to the 2.2% from 2011. Research done by Nielsen shows that just use of Green marketing attracts consumers to their company’s brand. They also found that in a year difference from 2011- 2012 that car companies green marketing plan has caused a 20% growth in purchase consideration from consumers. Study has showed that with this increase in consideration as well as purchase of econ friendly cars has lowered the predicted amount of oil the US uses daily in 2025 from 17 million gallons a day to only 10 million a day. These articles that I used clearly relate into the lessons we learned in class. In the Nielsen article it stated that 76% of people surveyed showed that fuel efficiency...

Global Warming's Effect on the Car Buyer Market

...Mohammad Chughtai | Assignment # 5 – Essay | MKT 410 – F13 | 9/24/2013 | The Green Revolution Al Gore spoke a few days ago at the world’s Social Good Summit about an issue that has become commonplace in today’s media: global warming. We know much of Gore’s bid for presidency in 1999, in which he ran – unsuccessfully - on a platform of responsible energy consumption. Fourteen years later, Gore is still arguing the same points, but with increased vigor. Its no surprise that after fourteen years of heavy campaigning, many Americans are well aware of the issue; in fact, many have changed their buying habits to reflect this growing concern – one the private sector has not failed to capitalize on. In this essay, I will attempt to first define global warming, touch on the “going green” movement and how it’s affecting consumer buying habits, explain how the car industry is being affected and the describe some of the motivations a company may have to “go green.” What is global warming? As with any business discussion, we must first understand the topic being discussed. Global warming debate has becoming increasingly prevalent in news media, T.V. shows and popular culture in the past few decades. Defined as an increase in the overall temperature of the earth, global warming is a topic that has been debated furiously from both sides. The EPA estimates that the earth’s temperature has risen by 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit over the past century. While this may not seem like much...

Green Danger

...Green Danger Kimberly Milburn COM/172 Rosemary LoDato February 28, 2012 Green Danger The concept for the new millennium is green energy. The majority of the human race is looking for new and improved ways of saving the environment. One of the ideas carmakers and environmentalists alike have toyed with is the creation of a working electric car to help save the environment. The notion of a functional electric car for the public’s daily use has been around for a few decades, but there was never a real place in the car market for one until recent years. There has been a recent shift in the consumer’s mind set as far as environmental consciousness, as well as the consumer’s overwhelming vocal concerns over emissions destroying the ozone. Even though electric cars do not put out the high emissions, the batteries these cars must use are worse for the environment because the chemical makeup is harsher for the eco system, and tests have shown a regular battery does less damage to the environment (Cherry,2010). The workings of a gas/diesel engine are very different from that of an electric car engine. Where the gas/diesel engines use fuel and combustion, the electric car runs solely on a battery. There are hybrids that use both a fuel engine and alternately run off of a battery, but they are in another category. A fuel engine uses the spark from a spark plug to ignite the gasoline fumes inside the carburetor which starts the engine, whereas a diesel engine uses hot air...

Cadbury - Marketing - Feeling Guilty for the Wrong Reasons

...the public but from groups including World Wildlife Foundation and Greenpeace, to local organisations such as the Auckland Zoo which removed Cadbury Products from its shelves in protest meant that Cadburys was forced to revert back to an only Coco Butter recipe even though it claimed to only be using certified sustainable Palm Oil. This has become a perfect example of ‘green’ and ‘ethical’ issues coming to light and forcing a company as large and Cadbury to take a step back and reverse a decision due to customer pressure. As green issues are highlighted more and more in today’s world, how important is green and ethical marketing to a large multinational such as Cadbury and how much power does the public have to make them stop, or change their practices so that they align with opinion? Furthermore how far do these companies, specifically Cadbury actually go to implement green strategies, and what type of governance do they employ within the companies to make sure they stick to their targets? Body – The Importance of Green and Ethical Marketing and Public Persuasion It is clear in today’s modern world that green issues are in the forefront of people’s minds. We are bombarded with...

Modifications on an Automobile and Its Environmental Effects

...in oil prices and the negative effects on the environment due to carbon emissions, it is imperative to begin to think about the effects of car maintenance on this issue. Wouldn’t one like to save gas by increasing miles per gallon?  There is a proven connection between a well maintained automobile and improved gas mileage.  This has a direct effect on automobile pollution in regard to carbon emissions.  A well maintained car saves the owner money, increase fuel efficiency and decreases pollution. A well maintained vehicle and its relationship to gas consumption is twofold. One when the car is running at its peak performance. Thus mechanical systems are running at peak efficiency. Two when a car needs service or when modifications can be made to improve efficiency. Projected carbon dioxide (Co2) emissions from cars could remain level at three gigatons through 2050 despite many more personal vehicles on the road with only minor affordable changes to existing engines, chassis and systems, according to a new report. “The study unveiled today at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland, challenges auto-policy makers to push for technology and design changes to existing autos that could double today’s average gas mileage of 26 miles per gallon.”  (Scientific American) Vehicle owners are able to do many necessary maintenance items to keep cars running at peak performance, therefore improving gas consumption. Just by adding an aftermarket variable valve timing device to an engine...

The Use of Electricity and Magnetism in Everyday Life

...future especially when it comes to transportation. The main idea of future of transportation is to reduce emissions and the amount of people in individual vehicles. A major concern is the use of our fossil fuels, and the damaging gasses that are released during the combustion of these fuels in our vehicles. Researchers for years have been coming up with ideas to reduce the carbon footprints of these things. Energy experts and historians of energy agree that as societies advance, they need more and more concentrated, intense forms of energy, like rocket fuel instead of gasoline. Transportation will be pollution-free and versatile. “of the several converging trends for getting around, “ultracapacitors” are being developed for electric cars to completely replace batteries. They have lighter weight and ten times the energy density of lead-acid batteries. In the future energy portfolio, another surprising development is the permanent magnet powered motors, which are an emerging trend bound to come to market. A number of developments, such as the Spiral Wankel Magnetic Motor and other different designs, all point to the use of the “magnetic gradient” in the...
