Imagine a blast from the past while looking through the eyes of 3 southern women in the 60’s. 2 of which are African American maids who are confronted by a young white news reporter looking to do an article on the maids or as they are referred to in the book and the movie “The Help”. The transfer from book to movie in The Help has kept a similar plot, while a few character traits weren’t described in the movie all of the names the physical descriptions stayed overall the same. To start off a couple differences in the movie are some character traits. Skeeter in the book seems a lot more independent or ‘free’ to say the least compared to the movie where she was more clingy to her mom. Another thing that stuck out to me was the way Minny left

The Outsiders Movie And Book Comparison

...We are comparing and stating differences in the book. We read the book The Outsiders. S.E Hinton was the author. I liked the book very much and we eventually watched the movie. As I was reading the book I did not picture the movie the way it was. I am comparing the movie and book and also making some differences. Some of the main characters in the book are Dally, Ponyboy, Johnny, Two-Bit, Darry, and there is other characters that aren't as important. The narrator in the book is pointing at Ponyboy's point of view. To start off, the characters are very different in the book then they are in the movie. Sodapop was in the book more than he was in the movie. There was blonde kids, (Soda and Dally) in the book but there wasn’t in the movie. Sandy wasn’t even mentioned or in the movie and she took a big part in the book. In the book's point of view the narrator is Ponyboy, and in the movie there isn’t really a narrator it is in every one perspective. In the book two-bit was 6 foot tall...

2081 Essay

...When people talk about books and their movie/versions usually people say that the book is better because it pays more attention to the details. One movie and book that portrays this is The Hunger Games because in the movie they left out most of the main details that help explain the plot of the story. Another example that also portrays this is “Harrison Bergeron “and the short film “2081” because they both have similarities such as the characters and they both have differences such as in the short film “2081 they never talked about beauty handicaps. When Comparing the passage “Harrison Bergeron and the short film “2081” They have different details. In the passage Harrison scares the audience with his strength by spinning the people of the orchestra and flying as stated in the passage “snatched two musicians from there, chairs waved them like batons”. This made Harrison seem like a monster. However, in the film he just threatened the audience with a bomb which was a backup broadcaster the reason they might have done that is to make Harrison die with pride by showing the whole world the guy who spoke up about the handicaps and also showing the world even his dad himself and by showing how cruel the handicapper general is. When comparing and contrasting “Harrison Bergeron “and “2081” have similarities such as the ballerina dancing with Harrison at the end. As stated in the passage “Harrison placed his big hands on the girl’s tiny waist letting her sense the weightlessness”...

The role of statistics in business decision making is crucial as statistics can give companies an idea of what the consumers want simply by observing the different goods and services that the company put out to see how much money was made and how much of a demand is there still for that particular good or service. Statistics in business decision making also consists of comparing present statistics with older previous statistics to see what area could be improved. Some examples or problem situations in which statistics were used or could be used would be Microsoft using earlier sale records of previous Xbox consoles released to make a prediction or to estimate how well a new platform can expect to do upon its release. Another situation could be if a famous book was being turned into a movie, if the book showed statistically that it was successful then big budget film corporations will get wouldn’t mind throwing more money into the movie. Multicultural Education

...students, and 2 Asian students four of which are identified as special needs, one of whom is in a wheel chair, and few of my students come from the poorest neighborhood in Happy Valley, I would incorporate different types of activities in my class room that would support a multicultural education. These activities include, “Comparing Cultures”, and “Rain”. Every teacher should believe that every child, no matter what their background maybe, can learn. Multicultural education is an “Educational strategy that incorporates the teaching of students from diverse backgrounds, human relations, and the study of ethnic and other cultural groups in a school environment and that supports diversity and equity” (James A. Johnson, Diann Musial, Gene E. Hall, Donna M. Gollnick, Victor L. Dupuis, 2005). One of my stategies that I found intersting is the Comparing Cultures activity. Mycheal Willon (1994) discusses in the Comapring cultures, the teacher should have the class read or watch the movie Cinderella in the class room. Then, brings another version of Cinderella which is the Shirley Clome’s, the Egyption version. To read the story in a book or have them watch the movie are both appropiate. Mycael Willon (1994) also discusses that after reviewing both versions, the teacher uses “cooperative learning strategy Think-Pair-Share (TPS)” (para, 5). In the strategy, the teacher would ask the children to find a partner and hold up his or her hand. After wards the teacher...

Perks of Being a Wallflower Movie Versus Book

...Courtney Vargas C. Abbott English 102 May 2, 2013 The Perks of Being a Wallflower: Which is better, the movie or book? Being nominated for awards from groups such as Toronto International Film Festival, Writers Guild of America for Best Adapted Screen Play, and Detroit Film Critics Society for Breakthrough Artist, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor, and winning Independent Spirit Awards for Best First Film and Boston Society of Film Critics for Best Supporting Actor, it is no wonder that The Perks of Being a Wallflower is described as a “heartfelt and sincere adaptation that is bolstered by strong lead performances” (Rotten Tomatoes, 2012). Just as far as the movie goes, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a story to remember. Stephen Chbosky is not only the author of The Perks of Being a Wallflower book, but is also the director of the movie. Taking place in the early 1990s, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a story of a teenager who is starting high school and his experiences through his freshman year. Charlie, the protagonist, is a loner entering high school and shortly after entering his school he essentially gets adopted into a group of smart, outcast seniors. His two best friends in the group Sam and Patrick, “seniors, stepsiblings, and self-defined misfit toys” (Chaney, 2012), give Charlie the time of his life his freshman year meeting new people through parties, football games, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and trying new things that most high school students...

Comparing Homer's Odyssey And O Brother Where Art Thou?

...Moat men who have been away from family – want to return to them. When a person travels long distances they happen to come upon obstacles. Pride is the most important thing that keeps men going. In the book “The Odyssey” and the film “O Brother Where Art Thou?”, we can compare three basic subjects: characters, events, and the journey. Even though the characters in the book and film have some things in common; they are very different. In “The Odyssey” by Homer, Odysseus lied to his men for the sake of keeping them safe. While in “O Brother Where Art Thou?” Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, Everett lied to Pete and Delmar so he could stop his wife from remarrying. Hence forth, Odysseus gives more of an honorable standing in the sense of loyalty to friends and family equally. While Everett seems more focused on his family. As the plots of the compared unfold, there are events that are alike. Odysseus dressed as an elderly beggar man to fool the suitors – so he could see his wife. Everett on the other hand, dresses as an elderly hobo – who is a part of a singing group to fool Homer and the suitor; so he could see his wife. Both of the men used elderly disguises to fool people in...

...way. This is paralleled with the way the Holocaust has been portrayed in different mediums. He also introduced the idea of “seeing” depends on a person’s habit and their environment. I will be comparing elements in the mediums of Reflections and Echoes, Maus, Life is Beautiful, and Inglorious Bastards as well as the methods in the perceptions of the author and the lenses through which they see, and then go into detail about the readers perceptions. Introduction The medium through which an artist chooses to express their message or ideas has an effect on the way it is perceived by the viewer. Imagery has deeper meaning that artists tend to hide their message through the use of several representations. The type of image that an author decides to use has an ultimate effect on the perception of the audience. Members of the audience decode varied meanings from an image in the text. The World War II is among issues that have been represented in texts and movies through the use of imagery. Comparing Hero's Journey In The Odyssey And Star Wars

...their minds jump from Odysseus to Cam Newton. Why? These two come from different cultures, different time periods, and even different universes or realities. On one hand, Odysseus battled mythical monsters in the Mediterranean Sea for 20 years, while Cam Newton played football on the Auburn Plains for 4 years. However, both will be remembered for their legacies – Odysseus in the Iliad and Odyssey, Cam in the Raine room (Auburn hall of awards) – and for performing miraculous feats for the something greater than themselves. A few years ago, in Latin class, we studied the Hero’s Journey. We examined the Odyssey and Star Wars, comparing the main characters and their plotlines. After the unit, we recognized all notorious heroes follow the same 14-step journey, regardless of time and culture. The villains, the scenery, the motive might change across movies and books, but heroes sifted out the same: suffer a major crisis, passage through the “belly of the beast” (term for going on a physical journey), and transform themselves. In pop culture, the entertainment industry manipulates the hero stereotype, pumping out films like the Avengers and Harry Potter. These heroes possess a special ability...
