...The Hunt for Seasonal Workers Crosses Borders Shelia Broadwater Kaplan University AB203: Human Resources Management Ah Young February 16, 2013 The Hunt for Seasonal Workers Crosses Borders Lots of companies encounter the challenge of finding seasonal workers. These seasonal workers are needed during the companies’ sales peak, when a company needs to produce and, or provide service within a certain period of time. Seasonal workers are excessive resources for a company that needs to increase the amount of workers in their workforce during sale peak throughout the year. The peak in the demand for labor is too steep to handle with overtime, and the type of work can’t be outsourced to dishwashers or lifeguards in another location. The main option for employers is to find workers who want a summer job. (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, & Wright, 2009). If companies cannot fill vacant seasonal jobs with workers under the H-2B visas, the companies could use temporary employees or fill positions by outsourcing. Using temporary employees and outsourcing do not build an in-house pool of talent, but by these means staffing levels can be quickly and easily modified” (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, & Wright, 2009). Overtime is also a temporary solution but may exhaust the company’s employees. It is the companies’ decision to choose which solution works best in each case. For short-term labor peaks overtime may be the solution but for a longer season temporary employees...

...High Sierra Pools, Broadmoor Hotel, and Bubala’s are on the hunt for seasonal employees, whose their peak season is getting ready to happen and the need seasonal workers to add 500 employees to its staff of 1,200 to handle the peak season. They have used the increased staff in the past as high school and college students, but many of these students need to return to school in August, which creates a problem for the companies. Workers with the H-2B visas provide services or labor and the job is temporary. The employer must show that the worker has not performed the service in the past and will not be needed in the future. Seasonal employees are needed, so the employer must claim seasonal work and must show that the service of labor for a season of the year of a recurring nature. With this being seasonal, the employer must state that the labor is unpredictable, subject to change, or considered a vacation period for the employer’s permanent employees. Workers with the H-2B are authorized on the temporary labor certification, for increments of up to 1 year each, and the maximum period of stay is 3 years. With the H-2B employee stayed for a period of 3 years, they must depart and remain outside of the U.S. for an uninterrupted period of 3 months, before seeking readmission. Sometimes companies are unable to fill all vacant seasonal jobs with temporary and contract workers, or workers for limited assignments. The advantages of this is that they will be temporary employees,...

...the first vaccinations were given to the soldiers in WWII. Many kinds of influenza vaccination studies have been done by medical research teams including the Center for Disease Control. The Efficacy and effectiveness of influenza vaccines: a systematic review and meta analysis was researched by Michael Osterholm and his associates by reviewing over 5000 studies of the influenza vaccine. Many articles since then have commented on this meta-analysis and have gone further to expand the question of does the flu vaccine decrease pneumonia in the elderly. Results are such that the confounding conditions of the study needed to be adjusted fully and the studies re-evaluated. Another question arises. Does mandatory vaccination of healthcare workers decrease the spread of the flu virus within the hospital. Evidence for consistent high-level protection is elusive for the present generation of vaccines, especially in those at risk of medical complications and those aged 65 years or older. Does Science Support the Flu Shot? Since the discovery of the influenza virus and the subsequent development of the flu vaccine, has there been enough science research to support the effectiveness and efficacy of the flu vaccine? Influenza also known as the flu is a viral infection. The flu is caused by influenza viruses A and B, and to a much lesser extent C and there are many different strains of the flu virus every year and they mutate frequently. The Maintenance of a good quality of life for Canadians reflects positively on all branches of a government, including economic growth, the utmost important aspect of a successful nation; thus, it is a necessity and advantageous to the Canadian economy. Economic growth refers to: “An increase in the amounts of goods and services produced per head of the population at one time.” The main causes of economic growth are better-educated and more skilled workers, as well as higher rates of investments and consumer spending, both of which can be enhanced by the use of different social programs. Programs such as welfare as well as employment insurance which offer direct funding towards the individual may create a lack of incentive for clients to seek employment, as certain individuals abuse the system, hindering the social and economic growth of a country; However the program does benefit individuals whom use the service as intended by the government. ...HOW FAR TRUE IS THE ASSERTION THAT THE NDEBELE PEOPLE RELIED ON RAIDING ALONE FOR THEIR LIVELIWOOD? There is so much truth to the claim that the Ndebele economy relied heavily on raiding and the various Shona communities especially those close to the Ndebele suffered as a consequence. In this essay it will be shown that from the advent of the Ndebele in the present day Matebeleland up to the imposition of colonial rule in the 1890's, there was never a decade without Ndebele raids into Shona territory. This essay will also show that how ever much significant raiding was, the Ndebele also relied on other activities including, tribute, agriculture and trade. It will be made clear that although highly significant, raiding alone does not fully explain the Ndebele economic way of life. Both Mzilikazi and Lobengula pursued a consistent policy of raiding against one or the other Shona communities from the time of their arrival from present day South Africa. Apart from attacking the declining Rozvi, D.N.Beach cites Ndebele raiding activities which greatly affected the Chirimuhanzu dynasty in the 1850's. This would be repeated during the 1860's when the Kalanga and Tswana communities to the west were raided during the 1860 - 1 drought. That same decade (1868) the north-western Ngezi dynasty of Rimuka was also raided resulting in the flight of the Mashayamombe and Chivero rulers further north-east. The pattern continued during the 1870's when the Ndebele raided the Shona communities...

...Case 13: Attention Shoppers: Executive Compensation at Kroger, Safeway, Costco, and Whole Foods. MGT 495 November 13, 2011 Case Discussion Questions: Retail grocery sales represent a significant portion of the U.S. economy. The industry was highly competitive, with companies operating on low gross and net margins. As a result, grocery stores were generally under significant pressure to reduce their operating costs in order to maintain profitability. For the last several decades, the grocery industry grew roughly in line with gross domestic product and was considered a mature industry. In order for companies to succeed, they needed to find effective strategies to steal customers from competitors. Many sought to differentiate themselves through store format, store location, product mix, ancillary services, or quality of customer service. Strategies, however, could easily be imitated by competitors, putting grocery store chains under constant pressure to innovate and remain efficient. In general, growth also required the expansion into new store locations. Companies that failed to grow often went bankrupt or were acquired. S.W.O.T: Kroger, Safeway, Costco, and Whole Foods Kroger: Strengths • Multiple formats and solid market share in major metropolitan areas • Shopper insights program • Well known regional brands • Developed private label and loyalty marketing programs • Pricing image • Very strong organic growth (i.e., comparable and identical store sales) ...

...works we have is the “Woman [or ‘Venus’] of Willendorf”. Was this a sculpture of a specific woman? Does it show details? Is its nudity indicative of a lusty sexual obsession of the artist? Why would this subject be a priority for early expression? Really ponder these questions independently for a moment before reading on. If early Mankind was aware of anything, it was that life is CYCLICAL. There are cycles of the moon, of rivers flooding, menstrual cycles, childbearing cycles, seasonal cycles, cycles of the day from sunrise to sunset, etc.. Woman is the source of life and the womb and breasts nourish new life. No, this is not a statue of a particular woman – the features are very abstract and generic. The artist pays homage to womankind as a whole and to her epitomizing the cycles of life which impacted every day. Thousands of years later, we have the fascinating cave paintings of Lascaux. These paintings are mysterious for their location, but they quite clearly focus on the “HUNT” of the hunter-gatherer groups. No one can say for sure, but perhaps the animals were drawn as a strategic diagram before the...

...world's workforce were without a job in 2012.[3] There remains considerable theoretical debate regarding the causes, consequences and solutions for unemployment. Classical economics, New classical economics, and the Austrian School of economics argue that market mechanisms are reliable means of resolving unemployment. These theories argue against interventions imposed on the labor market from the outside, such as unionization, bureaucratic work rules, minimum wage laws, taxes, and other regulations that they claim discourage the hiring of workers. Keynesian economics emphasizes the cyclical nature of unemployment and recommends government interventions in the economy that it claims will reduce unemployment during recessions. This theory focuses on recurrent shocks that suddenly reduce aggregate demand for goods and services and thus reduce demand for workers. Keynesian models recommend government interventions designed to increase demand for workers; these can include financial stimuli, publicly funded job creation, and expansionist monetary policies. Keynes believed that the root cause of unemployment is the desire of investors...
