How is social networking really affecting us? As a whole, society is dependent on social networking from news articles to posting pictures from a vacation that they are currently or previously were on. We are constantly needing to be up to date on the latest trends, events, etc. Although social networking is an amazing feature in today’s world it can also be very detrimental at some points because of predators and false information that can send people into a frenzy because it is so believable. Social networking has made a huge impact on today’s world by making us more alert about worldwide events, helping us to get the information we need fast, spreading important information to a wide variety of online users very fast, but also giving way …show more content…
Starting in 1993 with the first web browser, Mosaic, the internet has skyrocketed with new and better options for finding what we need in a snap. People are constantly putting out and receiving information that previous generations would have no clue what to do with it or how to handle it. With younger generations being so technologically advanced, we are more open-minded and more accepting of others because ads and campaigns are being shoved our way at remarkable speeds to where someone in the U.S. will hear about something in places in the Middle East the matter of hours or even minutes. Because of our generation being so technologically advanced this could also become a problem because if we are so dependent on our “anti-social social” lives and someone hacks into all of our technology and no one can receive any type of information down to a text, the world will go into an enormous frenzy sand could possibly corrupt the entire world because we practically run off of our lives online and how we are viewed by our peers and others. Although there is a possibility of this happening, the chances are very slim considering all of the security measures that have been put in place and are being put in place with our up and coming technological advancements. Along with receiving information in a flash we also receive products at a lightning fast rate …show more content…
There have been numerous cases involving murders and other terrible events that have happened because teenagers were not responsible, cautious of what they were posting online, or careful of who they were talking to online therefore getting them into serious trouble or even worse, being killed because of this irresponsibility. And although there are those parents that may read this or hear this kind of talk and they will claim, “oh my son/ daughter would never talk to someone that they don’t know online” or “my kid is very responsible and knows exactly who is on the other side of the screen because they go to the same school and they talk all the time” but that is exactly what all of these types of people want. They wait for that person who isn’t smart enough to realize that it might not be who they think. The predator could claim that they are your best friend that moved to New York last year because you posted that you were so sad and heartbroken that they are moving and that you will miss them terribly and they could use all of the same pictures as that friend to make it seem legit but in reality they are just trying to kidnap you buy telling you to meet them at the park at like 7:00 on Saturday but then you go to meet them and

...Online Social Networking Dangers and Benefits Social Networking Site Dangers One of the most popular social networking sites is Facebook. While Facebook restricts members to those who use a ".edu" email address, this may give you a false sense of security. There are hundreds of thousands of active ".edu" email addresses of current students and alumni in just the United States and many of them can gain access to your site. Some colleges and universities will grant free email addresses to alumni; however, they do not always follow-up to check whether the individual is an actual alumni—therefore making it relatively easy to create false ".edu" accounts on Facebook and gain access to the site. Other social networking sites such as Myspace, Friendster, and Xanga offer even less security and protection because they are open to anyone. Because students often post detailed and specific information on Facebook (including phone numbers, addresses, class schedules, social plans, etc.) you can be more easily stalked by strangers (or even acquaintances). Impact on Schooling and Employment Students are getting in trouble with University administrators for incriminating and inappropriate information or pictures on their social networking profiles that are violations of school policy or the code of conduct. (Note: Administrators are not monitoring social networking sites; however, if information or pictures on a student's account that violate policy are brought to their attention...

The negative effects of these social- networking sites overweigh the positive ones. Firstly, spending too much time on social-networking sites means people engage in less face-to-face interactions with others. Since people are already sharing, tweeting, and posting things about their days, weeks and entire life stories; when you finally get the chance to see that person face-to-face there is nothing else to talk about, therefore making individuals anti-social.
