The Pool Players
The poem “The pool players” outlines the actual reality in which different youth from any diverse tends to face after leaving school. The poems’ content is systematically in a order simply because it opens up with portraying the ultimate scene of seven boys who surrounded a pool hall which was named the Golden Shovel. This line exposes the actual scene which the play had represented certain small gang who were in need of luck in order to achieve certain goal in their lives. Also the content of the play seemingly interested as result of implication whereby it implies the youngness of the players (Brooks, 1959).
The poem`s content also exposes the certain illegal activities which were practiced by the boys discussed. What interested me are narrator words when exposing the facts by use of secret word “Lurk late” which shows that, a certain activities were taking place in the dark. The identification shows that, too much exposure to darkness makes somebody to be what he or she ought to be. The narrator uses the word “strike straight” showing that, the boys where seemingly trying to do something menacing. Perhaps, they committed crimes, rapes and murder as well since they were all undergoing through a rite of passage in their development (Brooks, 1959).
The form of the poem “the pool players” was identified to have been determined by Colloquial rhythm (Haikus type of poem) the narrator tried to catch from the readers. The element of Bravado within the poem portrays the activities of street boys which the seemed to sound defensible besides desirable. The form of the poem identifies the folk type in which a certain impression may be approachable in monosyllabic style. The form of the poem also shows the effect of the shape of the lines whereby in reading of the poem, there is a technique which may be in a suspenseful theme. The other form in the poem to be identified shows the transfer of the music to a certain step in critical thinking (Bloom, 2009).
The language used in the poem is accustomed to hooky players, slag and command similarly judging. This portrays that, the poem is written from certain kind of perspectives which outlines that, seven guys hangs out in a pool hall besides class attendee. Also the language used could simply show that, the speaker is perhaps a simple player who engages himself or herself in the play being hanging out within the pool players. There is consideration of the word “We” whereby it seems to be repeated more times simply exposing that, boys had group identity. The language of the poem is too pride, this is because the pool players were aimless in their behavior. The language also provides a bad luck to the pool players whereby the speaker shows the actual prophecy “Die soon”. The language of the poem interested me simply because of the cool themes which identify the satirical lifestyles. The language could possibly show a kind of trick used by the speaker to express the players of pool`s celebration. By this means, the poem shows the seductive rhythm together with the use of alliteration and other forms of rhythm towards sympathy (Bloom, 2009).
These elements did not affect my opinions since I focused on them as the certain facts which are commonly used or even commonly witnessed. The content of the poem outlines the appropriate merely matter whereby I could not hold but I responded on the reactions. The aspects of the poem`s caused my opinions to focus on the others whereby in no certain time, different poems addresses different themes (Brooks, 1959).
