In the 1800 there were tons of railroads but none of them connected the pacific ocean to the atlantic ocean. Tons of people tried to connected the pacific ocean to the atlantic ocean but there plans never came threw. In 1862 Abraham Lincoln signed the pacific railroad act. That's when they started building the transcontinental railroad. The transcontinental railroad would connect the two oceans. With the help from the central pacific railroad company and the union pacific railroad company they started the build for the railroad.

Leland Stanford got a lot of credit for starting the build for the Transcontinental railroad.
He was the president of the central pacific railroad company. His company would work west from Omaha Nebraska. The union pacific railroad company would work east from sacramento, california. The two companies worked at different side of the country and met together in the middle of the country to build the transcontinental railroad faster. …show more content…
Bad weather and flooding was very harsh on bridges to make matters worse they had to rebuild them. Trees weren't in the planes were they were building so they had to ship them into the plains and that took a long time, because they were building the train track that would get the trees there. The central pacific railroad company lad track in harsh climates such as the sierra Nevada mountains. The mountains were harsh climates to work in for the workers. The workers also worked in the deserts there was no shade to protect the workers against the heat. When people started to find silver in Nevada many people had left the build of the transcontinental railroad to go mine for silver. Without some of the people that left to mine silver men had to do more dangerous work than they already have to do. The men dangle off cliffs to put a stick of dynamite to blow a hole in a cliff. Standard War

...The Art of Standards Wars Carl Shapiro Hal R. Varian S tandards wars—battles for market dominance hetween incompatible technologies—are a fixture of the information age. Based on our study of historical standards wars, we have identified several generic strategies, along with a number of winning tactics, to help companies fighting today's—and tomorrow's—battles. There is no doubt about the significance of standards battles in today's economy. Public attention is currently focused on the Browser War between Microsoft and Netscape (oops, America On-Line). Even as Judge Jackson evaluates the legality of Microsoft's tactics in the Browser War, the Audio and Video Streaming Battle is heating up between Microsoft and RealNetworks over software to deliver audio and video over the Internet. The 56k Modem War of 1997 pitted 3Com against Rockwell and Lucent. Microsoft's Word and Excel have vanquished WordPerfect and Lotus 1-2-3 respectively. Most everyone remembers the Video-Cassette Recorder Duel of the 1980s, in which Matsushita's VHS format triumphed over Sony's Betamax format. However, few recall how Philips's digital compact cassette and Sony's minidisk format both flopped in the early 1990s. This year, it's DVD versus Divx in the battle to replace both VCRs and CDs. Virtually every high-tech company has some role to play in these battles, perhaps as a primary combatant, more likely as a member of a coalition or Prepared for the Cnlifornia Management Review.Jh'is material...

Generally, those journalists do a competent job of reporting on the prospect’s record. In the case of Governor George W. Bush, Texas reporters had written numerous stories about his failed businesses in the oil patch, the dubious land grab and questionable funding behind a new stadium for Bush’s baseball team, the Texas Rangers, and his various political contradictions and hypocrisies while serving in Austin.
