“I got you now!” Jor said as he rose from his seat.

“No! You don’t!” I replied with a sneer look on my face.

The Chicago Bulls beat the Charlotte Hornets by two points.

“I knew you’d miss the last shot,” I added.

“Shut up! I’ll get you next time,” Jor said furiously. He raged away from the TV, dropping his controller. He walked into his room completely frustrated and slammed the door behind him. I was pleased and carried on with my game.

It was an unusual day. The sun was nowhere to be seen and the sky just kept on crying. It had been raining since I woke up. I could feel a rush of wind every now and then. The coldness made my breath visible. It was 6:30 in the morning and I was still on about the game. I was so focused on being the best. Or so I thought.

I was interrupted by intermittent irritating barks. I paused the screen and investigated what my adorable tamed dogs were up to. I looked through the window pane and saw them barking and running into a frenzy. I noticed that my dogs were stepping on water. I realised that it was flooding and the water had reached the front yard.

The sky kept on pouring water and it showed no signs of stopping. Unfortunately, I had to stop and act quickly. I opened my front door and ordered my dogs to come in. As soon as the three went in, I rushed and barged into my brother’s room.

“Hey, look outside! It’s flooding and the rain isn’t stopping, the water just reached our front yard. What should we do?” I nervously said.

“I don’t know, but we have to inform Dad what’s happening,” Jor replied.

“Okay, you go wake him up and I’ll be in the living room to check the water.”

Jor quickly went into our father’s room and woke him up from his deep sleep. As soon as I stepped out, I looked down and found the living room brimming with unsanitary water. Frightened, I screamed for help, hoping that my family

Essay On Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire

...the 9th floor where the Triangle Shirtwaist Workers were getting ready to leave for the day. The workers have no Idea there was a fire raging through the building until it was too late for most of them to evacuate the building. The owners, on the other hand, made it out the building alive through the rooftop. The triangle fire’s tragedy was compounded by the hazardous working environment in the factory and consequently lack of emergency preparedness. According to Berger (2011), Workers unraveled a hose from a stairwell fixture, but no water came out. The building had no sprinklers, nor had the factory ever held fire drills. More disheartening is that the doors in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory only opened inward, therefore when the...

System Dynamics over the Murray Darling Basin

...for both crop and livestock. As a result, the basin produces over one-third of Australia’s food supply. From above sentence, it seems that the area is enriched with healthy natural resources and ecosystem. However, during 2001 to 2009, the irrigation in this area has increased by a large number causing the low inflows in river systems. The low inflows including the climate change has resulted in the drought across the basin, followed by other environmental problems such as a degradation of biodiversity or an increase in salinity level of land and water, etc. Not only the environmental is destroyed but also the economic in the area which then causing the social impact. To resolve this issue, the government has established the Murray Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) in 2007 to address this problem and given a task to develop and implement a “Basin Plan”. However, for the current status, “The Proposed Basin Plan” has created the raging debate among the concerned stakeholders. This report will explain the issues from the beginning; the reason why Murray Darling Basin becomes an issue in the first place, as well as the key arguments for the issue. The Basin Plan The main element of the Basin Plan is to develop a long-term Sustainable Diversion Limits (SDLs), which defines the amount of surface and groundwater that can be taken from the Basin....

Oedipus Rex Symbolism

...searched. The Ocean is very dangerous with its massive waves and storms and depth. Authors have used the ocean for thousands of years to demonstrate destruction. This symbolism has gone back to Sophocles tragedy “Oedipus Rex”. A more modern example is Charles Dickens Tale of two cities where Dickens uses the destruction of the ocean to symbolize the crowds. In Tale of two cities there are many different crowds that form into mobs. These mobs are very dangerous and destructive throughout the book and Dickens portrays that to use through the ocean. Crowds are destructive just like the sea because they are uncontrollable but judt...

Baptism Debate

...a person to undergo a second baptism as an adult. The second baptism is said to signify the aspect of being born again and washing off the sinful nature. This debate has been raging for many yeas causing confusion in the Christian circles. This discussion seeks to examine both sides of the debate and ascertain the Biblical position on the issue. The Concept of Baptism Perhaps before looking at the concept of infant baptism versus adult baptism, it may be crucial to look at the entire concept as a whole. Baptism as concept is an act of cleansing that is done for purposes of washing off one’s sinful nature. It was therefore done symbolically to signify that one’s past has been washed off. One was therefore considered a new creature after going through baptism . The New Testament has covered quite extensively the issue of baptism. It begins with the Jesus Christ the Son of God. He approached John the Baptist and requested that he (John) should baptize Him. When Jesus was baptized, the heavens opened and God the father expressed His pleasure on His son (Matthew 3: 13). In the book of Ephesians, Paul also talks about the great baptism, which seeks to unite the body of Christ (the church) as one. The same applies to the book of Romans where there is emphasis of baptism. Paul says that it is only through baptism that the church of Christ can be united with him. In the book of Matthew, Christ also commissioned...

Global Warming

...Global Warming: A raging problem that can make the world inhabitable. In my past few years, whenever I hear people mention of global warming, all that is in my knowledge is the flooding of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere which makes the earth slowly hotter every time. It wasn’t a big deal for me at all but, in the past few months, I got to be more aware of the matter, as global warming is paving its path towards a major problem for humanity. I can now hear people talking about it, and I can read in the articles at the internet on how to combat global warming. Now, I can say that global warming is spoken about as much and we are very much aware of its problem. Unfortunately, we are not helping to fight against it. The documentary by Al Gore entitled, “An Inconcenient Truth”, speaks of how greatly affected the world climate has been since the introduction of the industrial age. The high temperatures recorded are proportional to the carbon dioxide composition in the air which suggests that carbon dioxide is the main cause of global warming. It is also stated that if this kind of pattern will go for another few decades, we will experience a temperature increase several times hotter than the medieval period. It’s very discouraging to know that not everyone is doing their best to battle against global warming. The most depressing part of the documentary was when he said that the melting glaciers would give a 20 foot increase in the water level which will result to submerged...

Los Angeles River Research Paper

...The channel that cut through the city is what we see today. Having seen the LA River before, I witnessed the damage that was brought upon this river. The frogs and birds that inhabited the river disappeared, the lush plants and trees that lined the river were destroyed, and the wet grounds that led the river was replaced and paved with concrete stone walls . Buildings took over most of nature’s land and freeways were built over and beside the river. The massive torrent that once stormed through the river is now a small stream of water, controlled by the government of the city. Even with the declining health of the river, in some part of the river, garbage can be seen covering the river. Bottles, paper wastes, and boxes were more abundant than water to the naked eye. The people who littered recognize the channel more as a sewer than an actual river. The construction of the concrete walls saved the lives of many humans, but with an adverse effect to the...
