Every human, no matter which city they inhabit, will want their lives protected and their needs provided. With a city as large as Los Angeles, its first objective is to grant these desires. Unfortunately, as we can see from our great city, the prioritization of human lives has stripped the freedom away from the natural landscapes of the city. Living spaces, factories, or freeways that will accommodate human needs will replace the land that nature sits on and natural catastrophes occurred from landscapes will be controlled to the point of destruction. The Los Angeles River is one landscape that has suffered from human desires. The Los Angeles River once thrived as a beautiful river. Starting from Encino, the river flew across this strip of land as if it had a mind of its own. It chooses when and where it wants to end. The channel that cut through the city is what we see today. Having seen the LA River before, I witnessed the damage that was brought upon this river. The frogs and birds that inhabited the river disappeared, the lush plants and trees that lined the river were destroyed, and the wet grounds that led the river was replaced and paved with concrete stone walls . Buildings took over most of nature’s land and freeways were built over and beside the river. The massive torrent that once stormed through the river is now a small stream of water, controlled by the government of the city. Even with the declining health of the river, in some part of the river, garbage can be seen covering the river. Bottles, paper wastes, and boxes were more abundant than water to the naked eye. The people who littered recognize the channel more as a sewer than an actual river. The construction of the concrete walls saved the lives of many humans, but with an adverse effect to the
