Time for Kids is a great website that presents current events going on throughout the world. The articles from this website are easy to read, yet give concise information. In my classroom, I would allow the students to pick an article from the website. They would read the article, give a few details about what they read, and then write about why the information that they read is important or how it impacts their life. Students would then share their articles and what they wrote to their partners. Current events are very important for students to know about. The writers at Time for Kids do a fantastic job at writing kid-friendly articles that present pertinent information. When students know about the world around them, it allows them to value …show more content…
Ducksters is a children’s website that provides many biographies about people in history such as philosophers from Ancient Greece, to modern inventors such as Henry Ford. I could use this website in a variety of ways. When discussing a moment in history, I could pull up the biography of a person from that time. As a class, we could review this individual’s biography, and discuss why or how they impacted people’s lives then and now. Another way I could use this website is by allowing each student to research a different person of their choice. This would also be a language arts integrated activity. Students can learn about biographies, and learn what that individual did that helped shape life today. Students could create a PowerPoint about the individual that they …show more content…
This interactive website is a great way to reinforce student learning. It provides both the teacher and the student with several games and interactive activities linked to several topics including landforms, US history, and other local and foreign communities. Depending on the lesson, I would use several interactive activities from the site. For example, when teaching geography, I would let students explore the online maps on this site. Students would be viewing the different features on a map, and how one map may be different from another map. This is also important, because knowing how to read maps is also part of the language arts curriculum. Many times, students learn better when they explore a topic themselves. Students learn how to navigate through a website, and explore all its features. When students are exposed to these interactive activities, they are using critical thinking, because they find out what they need to learn in order to achieve the goal of the activity. In addition, because interactive activities are more fun than a worksheet, students will be more motivated to learn.
