...PHILOSOPHY OF TIME MGT Each of us has a personality-defining set of "resonant frequencies" (see link for details), and one thing I've noticed about mine are that I work best when I focus on one or a few things for a certain period of time. I do not juggle well. Therefore, I am inclined to think that I should chart out a small number of things to focus on for given periods of time. In particular, I would like to control my focus when I have specific meaningful deadlines. Letting deadlines slip by is very unfortunate. It's important to understand the fundamental difference between deadlines you set yourself for personal disciplinary reasons, and deadlines that actually impact what you will be doing. For example, if I have a meeting about something it is quite important for me to do enough thinking and preparing for the meeting to go as planned by me. The first and most important thing for me to do is note the meaningful deadlines I have. If I don't keep track of them then I will not be able to make the most of the opportunities that cause these deadlines to be important. However, even as I do that, it's quite important to still prioritize highly those things that are important but do not impose meaningful deadlines. Otherwise, there will be a sort of tragedy of the commons, where instead of many different people sharing a common area, the different people are all me, just at different points in time, and the shared property is the possibility of achieving some specific thing...

...THE PROCESS OF BUYING A HOME DARREN BROWN MGT/230 APRIL 11, 2013 SCOTT DAVIS THE PROCESS OF BUYING A HOME The day came when it was time to purchase a home. This was a big decision to discuss and take into consideration the effects on the entire family. The first thing on the list was the price range we were looking to purchase at and what we could afford along with being able to afford a higher mortgage than what was being paid at the present time. The second thing that happen was making sure credit scores were at the acceptable level to purchase a home and getting the credit report reading from all three credit bureau. This made sure there was not any derogative information on it. It was good that from dealing with experience from the past and having the knowledge of what was all required to purchase a home saved a lot of time and made the process easier. The big issue was deciding on the location and area to purchase the house. With the help of the internet that made it easy to go online and look at available houses in the selected area. The plan was to put in the target price range, square footage, bedrooms, and bathrooms along with other amenities for the house. The next step was contacting a realtor and loan officer and getting the process going to the next level. Once the realtor got involved things really picked up along with, filling out paper work and having the loan officer process the application for the loan. Everything went as planned and once the preapproved...

...Taylor Straight MGT 330 Wed 7p.m. 1. I believe that Sergio Marchionne had to manage for a crisis. With Chrysler in bankruptcy and no profitability, when he came to be the CEO, he had to direct the company out of a dangerous time. He had to direct the company in a way that increased profits long term, while those around him just wanted to give steeper discounts. He decided that teaming up with Fiat, breaking even in 2010 and finally pulling profit in 2011 was the way to go. Not only did partnering up with Fiat help in a crisis situation, it enabled him to manage for a competitive advantage, by marketing a smaller, sportier Italian car, he was able to fulfill a niche in the market that was previously not as widely available. 2. Mr. Marchionne definitely filled the filled the Leading function in the overall managing process. By choosing an office where the engineers were located, he was better involved and immersed in the process. Allowing him easy access to steer the company in a better direction. He also held weekly meetings with his team to better motivate and guide them in a direction that he thought was best. 3. He played a decisional role in the company, he was the one to partner up with Fiat when his predecessors wanted to attract customers with discounts that could only hurt them long term. He was realistic in seeing where profits were heading in the upcoming years and was able to make that executive decision for the better of the company for the future. Not...

...Designing Toshiba’s Notebook Computer Line A Study of Manufacturing Capacity 12/12/2011 MGT 393-03 Introduction We analyzed a Toshiba assembly line plan for a new subnotebook computer. The engineering section manager, Toshihiro Nakamura, wants to make changes to the line process as designed by the engineers. The basic assembly line equipment and space already exist within the Toshiba plant, so the subnotebook assembly process must conform to those preexisting constraints. Specifically, the assembly line is a straight 14.4-meter conveyor system that can accommodate 8 to 12 workers plus one supporter to aid in the assembly process. The employees work at assembling for 7.5 hours a day. The computers are assembled from inventory provided by separate employees. Because it is well managed, there is no concern about supply for the line. Production quantities for the subnotebook computer are to begin at 150 units per day and increase to 250 in a week with the ultimate goal of 300 computers per day. We used a number of analysis calculations in our decision support model to show the capacity and relative efficiency of different iterations of the assembly line. We have also shown a possible solution to the main problem of the case: As the process is designed, it is impossible to attain 300 computers in a 7.5-hour shift using only one line. The decision support model shows one option for how this can be solved with a given set of assumptions. Discussion The decision...
