Tina Assignment
Tina was dealing with a dilemmatic problem as she didn’t know whether she should work for money from her unethical work or actually take some ethical actions instead. In my point of view, it would be important if she could ask herself a question: “which option will produce the most good, and do the least harm?” In this case, if Tina accepted doing the job, customers would be hurt the most. Since Tina wanted to act on her value instead of being a hypocrite, it would be reasonable for her to quit the job and continuingly look for other job opportunities.
However, Tina’s situation was more complicated because she was in a hard time financing her living expenses like rents, school supplies, or even foods. Living independently is not easy, especially for Tina since she did not even have a job. Thus, Tina had better keep doing her job for another short amount of time. While working as an intern there, she should actively continue looking for other internships and job opportunities. She also might want to do job researches at home to avoid her coworkers or her boss to see because that could cause trouble for herself. Obviously, Tina’s job doesn’t make her a bad person, it is just a matter of time. She knew what she was doing, but she just needed more time to financially balance her life. If she did not balance well with her life, her study and her living expenses, she could hurt herself, and her situation could get even worse. In short, Tina should temporarily keep working to the best of her ability, and actively apply for other jobs at the same time. After getting accepted to a better job, she then can quit her current job and move to another one.

Analysis of Mean Girls

...Reflective Analysis Caddy soon discovers that surviving in the African jungle is very similar to surviving the jungle that is her high school. On Caddy’s first day of school at a regular high school after being homeschooled her entire life she realizes how closely people’s behaviours resemble that of animals in the jungle. Many people can relate to the way she felt entering this new world as everyone has been in such a situation. Perhaps not to this extreme but I was once the new girl desperately trying to find my place in a new atmosphere. Caddy’s journey can also be related to recent recruits adapting to a new work environment, unknown to how things regularly go about. One of my jobs provided me with an outline of normal office habits; casual Fridays, on birthdays there are potlucks, the outline even provided me with some of the regular office language, short forms for certain documents, etc. This was a map to help me familiarize myself and integrate with greater ease. Unfortunately Caddy did not have this luxury, as many people don’t. She is forced to figure it out for herself. This hardship of adapting can easily lead us to not portraying our true selves to potentially avoid being shunned as an outsider. There are many stereotypes integrated into the movie. When Caddy is introduced as a new student from Africa the teacher welcomes an American black student instead of her. People easily believe her when she tells them that in Africa everyone can read Swedish, which portrays...

Bono

...October 29, 2005 Bono - World Leader - The Rolling Stone Interview Bono of the band U2 lives on the world stage not only as an acclaimed musician and band member, but even more so as a man of character who from a spiritual core has figured out how to translate his wealth and fame into influence. Bono is a model of leaders as I define leaders. A leader is a person who takes personal initiative to create an impact through his/her relationships, ideas and organizational structures. Leaders who represent this model understand that their ability to influence others through their ideas in organziations is built on what ancient philosophers called arete or excellence. Excellence from this perspective is the personal integrity found in a person's character and competence realized in action. Bono doesn't just talk about societal needs. He uses the bully pulpit of rockstardom to focus a bright light on the plight of the poor. What is the source of this strength of character? It would seem, based on this Rolling Stone interview, that it is derived from his faith as a Christian believer. This faith was nurtured in a variety of settings of his childhood Ireland. What is impressive is its concreteness and reality. It isn't mere surface religious enthusiasm. It is more like an ancient faith of beliefs applied in the daily experiences of life. One of the notable marks of his character is his openness to people that on the surface would not have anything...

Clueless Movie Sociology

... A “Clueless” Analytical Paper The movie I decided to analyze for my analysis paper is a classic 1995 teen film called “Clueless.” The movie “Clueless” is about a young, rich, and popular teenage girl who’s life revolves around materialistic accomplishments and boys. In the movie, Cher and her best friend Dionne befriend the new girl, Tai, who is in desperate need of a makeover. Tai’s rugged look and over-sized boy shirts is not the ideal look to this fashion guru. Cher ends up doing an excellent job with Tai’s makeover and soon realises she got a makeover as well. Cher learns that riches, style, and materialistic things isn't what lifes all about.(IMDB website) In this paper I will analyze and explain the many sociological themes throughout this movie. The first sociological concept I identified was the concept of socialization. Socialization is the process through which individuals learn both norms and values in society (Giddens, Duneier, Appelbaum, & Carr, 2015). Cher and Dionne were socialized in a very different society compared to Tai. Tai was socialized in a society where comfy clothes and having experience with sex and drugs was not looked down upon rather than it just being normal. Tai viewed lack of sex as something to be embarrassed about. For example, in the movie Tai and Cher get in an argument and Tai insults Cher by saying, “You're a virgin who can't drive”(Rotten Tomatoes, 2016). As for Cher and Dionne, being raised in Beverly hills, clothes, money and popularity...

Beauty

...What is Beauty? Everyone wants to be beautiful. Eternal beauty is consciously sought after. Beauty is sometimes found in outward appearances. People like to look and feel beautiful at all times. Beauty sometimes can be found in someone’s heart. People that have a calm, loving heart are beautiful. Beauty can be sometimes the way someone acts. People who do a lot of charity work do a beautiful service to the community. No matter where you look, there is beauty all around you. All one has to do is look for it. When people hear the word beautiful, they think about a beautiful woman. American society says that women should have perfect hourglass figure, be a size six or smaller yet a have a larger set of breasts and a big butt. A perfect example of this type of girl is Pamela Anderson. American society also says that men should have a perfect jaw-line, have perfect triceps, a rock solid six-pack and be six feet tall. Women that don’t have size six waists or smaller often feel insecure about them, and have low self-esteem. Men who aren’t six feet tall with a perfect body frequently suffer from low self-esteem. Men and women that do have the perfect body are considered beautiful and are worshiped. A perfect example of this kind of man is Chris Hemsworth. People who only care about external beauty called are superficial. Sometimes beauty is only skin deep. There are some people that have a calm, loving heart and they are called beautiful. Every now and then people with external...

They Say I Say

...The “They say, I say” essay If you have been keeping up with the show “30 Rock” as of late then you probably have very similar views as those who have adopted a rather negative opinion of the character Liz Lemon. However Liz lemon has been judged wrongly and should be seen in higher regard. Her character has evolved into what I can only commend for being phenomenally satisfactory, despite the growing dislike for the direction in which her character seems to be headed. I think it would be nice if the fans of the show could see the subtle life lessons that are being conveyed through the show. 30 rock is a comedy series about the workings of a variety show dubbed “The Girlie Show with Tracy Jordan” told through the voice of its producer Liz lemon. “In defense of Liz Lemon” by Emily Nussbaum strives to shed light on an aspect of the show that not many individuals have realized. After a slew of negative response to the Character Liz Lemon the author aimed to clarify why Liz is not only better than when she first started out but also why her audience find her so repulsive now. Nussbaum explains how in the first season of the show, Liz Lemon was very relatable especially to women of the same age group. She was unlike other female characters at the time which was refreshing. This new take on a female lead attracted countless die-hard fans which could be credited for the shows long run. The author however points out the inconsistency in the belief that Liz lemon...

30 Rock

...Tina Fey’s sitcom “30 Rock” ends tonight, dammit. I haven’t yet seen the finale (I’ll be watching it along with you screener-deficient folks), but I’m genuinely sad to lose my Thursdays with this awesomely dense comedy, which amounted to a grenade made of zingers. Sweet yet sour, at once funny ha-ha and funny-peculiar—and also funny-relevant, if that were a thing—“30 Rock” is quotable to a nearly psychotic degree. I’ll miss it like a stalker misses her stalkee. I could take pretty much any angle in looking back on “30 Rock,” but I’ll take the one that I am currently experiencing: looking straight at the Empire State Building. When the sitcom débuted, it was based on Fey’s experience as the first female head writer for “Saturday Night Live,” but it quickly became something bigger, stranger, and bolder: a surreal machine capable of commenting on anything, from feminism and prismatic perspectives on race to national politics, reality television, and corporate culture—always from a New Yorker’s P.O.V. Not that the characters were native New Yorkers, mind you, other than Tracy (who was born in Yankee Stadium and attended middle school at an Exxon station in the Bronx). The rest had moved to Manhattan from somewhere else: Pennsylvania, Florida, Massachusetts, Georgia. They were ambitious nuts who lived for their jobs, injecting the office comedy mold with both workaholism and a recurrent anxiety about what that might mean. (“I wish I’d worked more,” confessed Jack on his near-deathbed...

...athletic group who benefit from this exercise called the wall sit. Cheerleaders are also another athletic group who benefits from the wall sit. (League Athletics and Hillsborough Dukes 2016). This exercise is considered to be an isometric exercise that builds strength and endurance in the calves, gluteus maximus, hamstrings, inner thighs, and the quadriceps. (Exercise 2016) The muscles that are doing the most work are the gluteus maximus, hamstrings, and quadriceps. In my opinion, these muscles start to hurt the most. I would opt to say 3 minutes of this type of exercise would be much harder than 3 minutes of jogging. Jogging is an isotonic exercise. (Scalon 2015) Jogging requires the use of more muscles than the wall sit. These muscles are less likely to tire out or experience a burning, tightening sensation. I personally would much rather be jogging because it helps to burn calories and on the other hand, the wall sit does not. (Scalon 2015) 2. Muscle sense is called proprioception. ...through physical and mental exercise and deep relaxation. Although known to be at least 5,000 years old, yoga is not a religion and fits well with any individual's religious or spiritual practice. Anyone of any age, religion or life condition can practice yoga and derive its benefits. Yoga is the practice of putting the body into different postures while maintaining controlled breathing. It is considered to be a discipline that challenges and calms the body, the mind, and the spirit. By focusing on the breath entering and leaving your body, you are performing an exercise in concentration. After learning the history and practicing the throughout this fall semester, I have a new found respect and outlook for yoga. I would like to share with you an experience my family and I had to endure and probably how I was lead to signing up for this class. I come from a very close-knit family and, as such, all my life, so far, my cousin has always been more like a sister to me. We had children at the same time and always remained close. Last fall her son, Mikey was diagnosed with cancer. I can't even begin to describe the overwhelming devastation and complete sadness this brought to our family. My cousin was on an emotional roller coaster, and I can remember asking her how she stays so strong and how she got through all the treatments and still kept it together---- her response was "yoga"....I was somewhat skeptical--- thinking to myself that an exercise, i.e., yoga, would aid in the...

...BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW Bally Total Fitness was created in 1996 with Lee Hillman as its first CEO. Bally traces its existence to the Health and Tennis Corporation, run by Dave Wildman. Wildman had begun to purchase ailing gyms and aggressively expanded and acquired several other brands as well. In the 1990s, as part of a diversification move, Bally Manufacturing, a gambling equipment company, decided to purchase Wildman’s collection of gyms and other brands. This diversification of brands created what was known as Bally Entertainment. Bally Total Fitness was then created in 1996 as the health club portion of Bally Entertainment. Lee Hillman started the company off in an unusual path, Mr. Hillman used a retrenchment strategy by selling off outlets, rationalizing Bally’s brand portfolio, and closing several clubs, which then returned the business to profitability. During Hillman’s course of leadership, Bally developed a very broad range of products and services, which increased revenues out of the company’s existing membership base and added profit to the bottom line. The company faced a triggering event when Bally’s CEO Lee Hillman stepped down suddenly in December of 2002. Bally’s chief operation officer at the time, Paul Toback, replaced Mr. Hillman and moved to the top of the company. Toback’s started as CEO explaining that he expected changes to the company to be “more evolutionary than revolutionary”. Under Hillman’s lead, Bally was operating essentially as two different...

Bottle Water

...Bottled Water Market Penetration Name Institution Bottled Water Market Penetration Introduction The demand for bottles water has grown tremendously owing to its increased popularity. The industry has been growing at an average rate of 20% per year (Gleick, 2010, p. 15). Demand has grown over 500% in the last decade and a half. In the United States there is a demand of 79 liters of bottles water per person in a year, which has resulted in the sale of up to 30 billion in the sale of the product (Gleick, 2010, p. 17). This has been driven by increased population and the decreased quality of water supplies from the public mains. People have feared for their health and thus have opted for bottles water that is more purified and fresh. The consumption of bottled water in the United States fell in 2008 to 30 billion bottles compared to 2007 (Clarke et al, 2009, p. 28). Bottles water faces stiff competition from other beverages such as sodas. It is thus important that companies to reposition the product in order to get back to the positive growth trend. Repositioned Target Market The market for bottled water is quite large as water is a commodity that is essential to life. Bottled water may face competition from soft drinks and supplies from local authorities. Manufacturers of the product (bottled water) have used various methods in segmenting the market and obtaining potential targets. For instance, coca cola the manufacturer of Dasani, and Nestle have targeted...
