...ear and keep quiet, respect the one who is talking. In respecting the speaker, his mannerisms or habits and his and your differences in language should also be taken note of. Also, an open mind is also considered- accept the ideas and opinions of the speaker. The receiver should also focus and concentrate in what is being said to be able to fully and correctly understand the message to be conveyed. Another requirement is the simple responses all throughout the listening process. Simply nodding and maintaining eye contact will give the speaker an easier way to let all his thoughts out. Avoiding distractions or barriers is also a help in having successful listening. Also affecting the listening process are non-verbal symbols like the volume, tone, pitch and intonation of the speaker. The body language, such as facial expressions and eye contact, can also affect the listening process, therefore should also be considered. Lastly, the most important thing is to listen to the message’s essence and meaning, understand it, and don’t just listen to the words coming out from the speaker. 2. Five listening barriers and its corresponding solutions: a. Distractions- The noise around and the different thoughts inside the receiver’s head will lessen the possibility of understanding the message being delivered. Improving focus and attention, being aware and paying more attention to the speaker will mitigate this issue. b. Culture and beliefs- Having strong conviction about points of view...

...Feel the burn Which workout is best for you? Andy Darling is your guide Saturday 15 January 2005 The Guardian 1: Jogging/running The simplest yet most effective exercise in terms of caloric expenditure, because it's an entirely weightbearing activity, requiring greater energy output than if you were seated or supported by water. Softer surfaces require harder work and result in still higher caloric expenditure. Great for fat burning, and for the cardiovascular system (heart and lungs). Not so good in terms of muscle toning and flexibility. Can cause too much stress on knee joints, particularly on uphill runs. Calories burned in 30 minutes: Approximately 340 jogging, 560+ running 2: Pilates Created in the mid-20th century by Joseph Pilates, it uses mat and machine work to develop body awareness. It also teaches you how to use muscles more efficiently, bringing together strength and flexibility, two factors that don't always sit easily together. Great for instilling a sense of "how to move" and to hold oneself . Not so good in terms of calories burned. Calories burned in 30 minutes: Approximately 140 3: Indoor rowing An integral training aid for the multi-medalling GB water rowing crews, the Concept2 ergometer - "erg" for short - has given rise to a sport in its own right, with competitions around the world. Some come to it because their days of weight-bearing activity (ie running) are over, others use it for cross-training, burning nearly as many calories as running...

...Edgar Allan Poe, was one of the scariest poems ever written in its time. Even though it doesn’t seem very scary to us today, it can still be considered as a very creepy story. The narrator is almost being psychologically tortured by this bird who just appeared out of nowhere. The worst part is that he is being tortured because the bird is saying he will never his wife Lenore again, even in heaven. The central idea of this text is that the narrator can’t cope with the demise of her wife, Lenore. You can see throughout the story by the tone that the Raven and the narrator throughout the poem. On the fourth line of the fifth stanza it says, “And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, ‘Lenore!’ This I whispered,” this line definitely proved that the narrator still had hope that she was still alive, it’s sort of like he’s in the denial stage of grief; the narrator believes that Lenore is still alive and it basically says Lenore in a desperate tone because of the exclamation mark. The grief of the narrator is even expressed directly on the last three lines of the second stanza....

...Chapter # 1 page 26 Case – High tone Electronics, Inc. Questions 1 to 2. 1. Explain why operations management is critical to the success of a business. Why would developing an Internet-based business require different operations consideration for HEI? Is George Gonzales correct in his assessment that this would not be “business as usual”? Operation Management is the business function that plans, Organizes, coordinates and controls the resources needed to produce a company’s goods and service. It involves managing people, equipment technology, information and many other resources. It is responsible for orchestrating all the resources needed to produce the final product. This includes designing the product; deciding what resources are needed; arranging schedules, equipment and facilities, managing inventory controlling quality; designing the jobs to make the product; basically, operations management is responsible for all aspects of the process of transforming inputs into outputs. As proper management of operations can lead to company success, improper management of operations can lead to failure. So, the operations management is critical to the success of a business. ...Humanities; 2* 09/5/10 The song “Give Me Novocain” by the band Green Day reveals a sense of suffering, and the use of drugs to help ease pain. The chorus “Drain the pressure from the swelling / This sensation’s over whelming/ Give me a long kiss goodnight and everything will be alright/ Tell me Jimmy I won’t feel a thing/ So give me Novocain.” This bluntly shows that what ever point of view this is coming from that person is very clearly suffering and is using drugs as a way to escape from it. The beat of the drums and the guitar is slow at first, then changes to a more up beat tone, hinting at the drugs raging through a person’s system. The slower beat that the song returns to is the high. It’s the calm that a person feels when the are worry free. When I first heard this song I had no reason to believe it was about anything than what was being obviously sung about. But when I listened to the lyrics it revealed the suffering that we as humans go through and what some people will do to escape, even if only for a matter of hours. It made me think about all the times I wished I could escape from something as simple as my mother. I changed my way of dealing with things from then on. Instead of wishing I could just get away by any means possible, or punching walls, I would just think about everything I have that is worth staying for. Everything I did both in thought and in action changed slightly. I never thought about wanting to run away or get at my mom and instead of hitting...

...The first ten minutes of any film sets the tone for the entire movie. Just like a movie, is it possible that a person’s earliest memories can set the tone for their entire life? And if so, if you do not like you’re tone, how do you change it? Well this is what I’m trying to do know. Whether or not my theory is correct, I’m trying to change the tone of my life. If a director of a film is creating a horror movie, and the first ten minutes of his film seems to comedic, then the director would change the beginning. What I’m trying to say is, if my theory is correct, and I know that there is a problem, would that make it easier to fix my problem? My earliest memories that I can recall are those from when I was in Kindergarten. Kindergarten is the year my father left my family. I don’t blame my father anymore for what he did, but I somehow wonder if the memory has somehow created an subconscious effect on my life. See, my brain works a lot different than that of my sister or brother. My brother was ten when my father left. Therefore, my brother already had memories built before the departure. As for my sister, she doesn’t even recall my father’s departure at all. She was too young. But for me, like I said it was my first memory. I was six years old. I was very young and somewhat obnoxious. At that age there really wasn’t much to worry about. There was a park right across the street from my house. My best friend Clayton lived a few houses down. Life was that of any normal six year...

Enlightenment is the tone because the authors give the readers insightful information on what it means to be happy when wanting things. They do this through the developmental modes of definitions and...

...Webern uses six different row forms: P0, R0, P4, R4, P8 and R8. However, the twelve-tone matrix is set up so that every row form is repeated once as a different row form. For example, P0 is repeated as RI3, P4 is repeated as RI7 and P8 is repeated as RI11. P0, P4 and P8 are the three main row forms used because the rest are retrogrades of these main three. Each row form that is used (P0, R0, P4, R4, P8, R8) has identical pitch class layouts. Here is P0 as an example: TRICHORDS: (013) (015) (015) (013) (C# D B) (C Ab G) (Bb A F) (F# D# E) TETRACHORDS: (0123) (0123) (0123) [C# D B C] [Ab G Bb A] [F F# D# E] HEXACHORDS: (012367) (012367) {C# D B C Ab G} {Bb A F F# D# E} Everything involved with the pitch class sets is very symmetrical. The trichords create a palindrome, but so does every single interval in all of the row forms. Here is R4 as an example: Ab G Bb A C# D B C E D# F# F 1 3 1 4 1 3 1 4 1 3 1 The piece is written as a canon between four instruments. The viola imitates the first violin and the second violin imitates the cello. ...Exploring Tone in Powder and The Palmist While tone shows the author’s attitude towards their subject, it also forces the reader into a mindset the author so chooses. Both Tobias Wolff in Powder and Andrew Lam in The Palmist write to convey discomfort and lack of trust, allowing the reader to better understand the dynamics of the father-son relationships within their stories. Wolff’s tone in Powder allows the rocky relationship to ease into comfort towards the end. While Lam’s tone in The Palmist portrays uncertainty in life’s journey, both characters took to connect to a sense of familiarity. In each short story, the anxious tones serve essential parts for the reader to further understand the purpose of broken men wanting to connect with...
