...Too Many Majors Case Study Jeffrey King Florida Institute of Technology 25 September, 2015 How would you characterize the decision-making styles of the two committees that considered the enrollment management problem? Would you characterize either of these processes as more effective or appropriate to the decision under consideration? The normative model of decision making was utilized by the Ad Hoc committee. The normative model set criterions for assessment. This model is normally obtained void of personal opinions and emotions when the users have collected enough information to define the problem (Baron, J. 2012). The department chairperson had already noticed and defined the problem completing the first two portions of the formulization stage of this process; however, the committee appeared to make a concerted effort to isolate a multitude of information concerning enrollment management plans. This committee then dove right in to the second stage of this decision making model and identified what they considered to be three viable options to address enrollment management. Their charge was completed prior to the evaluation and implementation stages. The Undergraduate Curriculum Committee leaned more towards the intuitive decision making model. This committee did not scientifically or systematically approach the issue to which they were assigned. They opted to go with Dr. Tanaka’s thirty years of experience and trust in his insight. In today’s fluid environment, the...

Activity theory- It has been argued that older people needed to disengage, but that they also needed to remain ‘active’ in order to prevent disengagement going too far. Bromley said ‘It is not sufficient merely to provide facilities for elderly people. They need to be educated to make use of them and encouraged to abandon apathetic attitudes and fixed habits.’ Too much disengagement would lead to ‘stagnation’ and a loss of mental and physical skills. Elderly people need to stay somewhat engaged in social activity to avoid becoming completely isolated from society. ...Jurney Dezern Mr. Knight ENG 112 80-OL August 30, 2015 Intended Major Profile Paper As of my senior year in high school, I plan to major in anesthesia and minor in psychology. Anesthesiologists or Nurse Anesthetists are one of the top paid healthcare professionals in the world as of 2015. With majoring in anesthesia comes a tremendous amount of responsibility. If the anesthesiologists gives the patient too high of a dosage, it could kill the patient, which would cause a lawsuit. From researching other occupations that intrigue me, I believe I want to focus on becoming an anesthesiologist for the emergency room. I like the idea of having a buildup of adrenaline running through my body, while putting someone under anesthesia for an emergency surgery. From all the research I have conducted, there are several schools in North Carolina that offer an anesthesia program in their graduate school. I also have concluded that many of these schools are expensive, but offer a remarkable amount of scholarships and grants for those who are less fortunate. Many schools in North Carolina offer a program focusing on anesthesia. A few schools have stuck out in my research. UNC Charlotte offers a program for Nurse Anesthetists through the Carolinas Medical Center they are partnered with. UNCG also offers an anesthesia program through the Raleigh School of Anesthesia. Lastly, Western Carolina University offers a twenty-eight month Nurse Anesthetist program. Out of all my research that...

...applying for the course because of the big profit that the future job can offer. According to Vince Silva (2014) an engineering student, one of the major factors that have been affecting college students to graduate earlier is the shifting of courses of the college student, especially after the first to second year of experience of the student's studies. Shifting of course is a way of college students to change their chosen program to another that may have been chosen by many. In this generation many college students shift courses because of personal, social, and educational conflicts. Shifting courses became a delay for the progressing development of the country even in the Philippines. It is commonly experienced these days that a good number of freshmen students shift from one course to another every semester. It has always been a burden on the part of the student's immediate superior who approved the shifting of courses. In fact, the incidence of indecision in occupational choice among college students has become a burden to some faculty members in college level, since shifting is a product of irrational decision which is notably interferes with the educational growth of the students. According to the University of West England, one of the reasons why students change their college major or course is because the academic level is too high or low for the student. Some students like their skills to be challenged while other students might find it difficult to adapt with the subjects...

...Drastically Impacted World History has been impacted by so many civilizations and trade it is quite unbelievable. Yet, what is a great example of World History being impacted? A good example of World History being impacted or altered is the Columbian Exchange. The Columbian Exchange is not just about the mere exchange of trades and goods. It includes the idea that the Europeans changed the very culture of many people in different areas. For one, the Europeans brought a smallpox epidemic to the America’s, which almost wiped out the people living there. This is not the only way Europeans impacted other civilizations. Many people living in China received many new crops. One crop in particular is the potato. The potato will eventually become important...

...overcome these obstacles and make my vision become a reality. My vision is to establish a guideline to lower the nurse to patient ratios in acute care hospitals, so that the quality of care given to patients as well as employee satisfaction can be significantly raised. Key Concepts of Vision The current nurse to patient ratio at my hospital is 1 nurse to 7 patients. I do not feel that this ratio is appropriate. My vision is to implement a new ratio guideline, lowering the ratio to 1 nurse per 5 patients with the exception being made for high acuity patients. I would then like the ratio to be 1 nurse to every 4 patients. A high acuity patient with a major trauma would be harder to care for than someone admitted for dehydration. The charge nurse would be in charge of designating which type of acuity patients and how many are assigned to each nurse. This procedure is currently in place, but with the new guideline, there would be less patients assigned to each nurse. This would result in a safer work environment, better patient care, and a great recruitment incentive for nurses (Gonzalez, 2007). Critique of Evidence There has been lots of research done about lower nurse to patient ratios and the outcomes have been very favorable for the patient, the nurse, and the hospital. California became the first state to mandate minimum nurse to patient ratios in 1999 (Coffman, Seago, & Spetz, 2002). One study states that registered nurses are complaining that the low...
