Unit 4 Assignment- Part II

Why have you chosen the elective classes included in your degree plan? If you are using transfer credit, why have you chosen to include the transfer credit that you have selected to complete your degree plan? I chose to transfer credits from my prior education at University of Maryland and Kaplan University because they can help me in my current degree program but still allow me flexibility if I decide later that I want to change direction in my career. The classes not only apply in areas of social work but also in certain areas of healthcare and healthcare management, gerontology and health care aides. The electives show that I have the knowledge in those areas and it can be applied in all the job fields. Transferring my credits will also allow me to complete my degree plan in a quicker amount of time. I want to finish my degree as soon as possible but doing it with the knowledge that I need to allow me to succeed, not just get it over with.

What skills and knowledge do you expect to learn from these classes? If you are using transfer credits, what skills and knowledge have you learned from those courses?

I have learned the importance of communication skills, both verbal and nonverbal, and the importance of those skills. They also taught me the difference in cultures and beliefs and that it is imperative and important for me as a professional to not judge others. I learned to be impartial and fair in every situation. I learned how to work with others and to be constructive. I learned about the different laws and my responsibility to myself and clients or patients. I learned how ethics play a role in society and culture and the impact it has on an individual’s life. It also taught me that behavior is dependent on the social and psychological environment a person is exposed to.

There are many reasons why a student may wish to transfer credits. Generally speaking, people in America are much more mobile and move more often. As a result, a younger student may find themselves forced to unexpectedly re-enroll in a new higher learning institution if their parents move out of state. On the other hand, students who are in the military will naturally be re-located to different locations. Finally, certain students may simply be unsatisfied with the degree or college of their choice. Why is Credit Transferring Difficult?...

Bitcoin Case

...currency bitcoin to increase the speed, and slash the price, of international money transfers, raising the prospect of a revolution in the $600bn annual global remittance market. Soaring rates of mobile phone use in developing countries are helping the entrepreneurs compete with more usual forms of money transfer in countries where remittance rates and fees are highest. Many of the world’s poorest people depend on money sent to them from friends and family abroad. According to World Bank figures for 2011, nearly half of Tajikistan’s GDP is derived from remittances, while in Liberia, Lesotho, Nepal and Haiti they account for more than a fifth of GDP. Entrepreneurs claim they are using bitcoin to give some of the world’s poorest people a better deal on the money they receive from abroad. The World Bank calculates the average fee on remittances at 8%, yet charges can be three times as high. A report from the Overseas Development Institute (published in April 2014 , said the benefits of remittance transfers “are lost in intermediation as a result of high charges. Africa’s diaspora pays 12% to send $200 – almost double the global average.” Bitcoin could also cut the time it takes to send remittances. BitPesa, a Kenyan mobile money transfer firm that launched in May, says its remittance transactions are “twice as fast and 75% cheaper” than competitors, because it uses bitcoin to transfer funds. Elizabeth Rossiello, BitPesa’s founder and CEO, said: “We’re looking to bring...

Factoring

...Transfer pricing By John C. Hollas Illustration: Susanna Denti How to apply the appropriate transfer pricing methods to intercompany financial transactions In Canada, taxpayers are seeing an increased scrutiny of and more audit focus on intercompany financing transactions by the international tax auditors from the Canada Revenue Agency. The related party financial transaction being most commonly audited by the CRA are intercompany loans, factoring of trade receivables and provision of financial guarantees. This environment of rising transfer pricing controversy risk with respect to intercompany financial transactions conflicts directly with the multinational corporation's (MNC) increasing need to finance its foreign operations through intercompany, crossborder financial transactions. The transfer pricing risks and implications remain very significant both from a tax compliance standpoint and from a controversy risk management perspective. Today, MNCs need to mitigate the risk of significant transfer pricing adjustments by local and foreign tax authorities. While our focus is limited to the Canadian tax environment, it is critical to recognize that in all international related party transactions, with financial transactions being no exception, the transfer pricing issues include the other tax jurisdictions of the foreign related parties that are involved in the intercompany transaction. As such the transfer pricing legislation in those foreign tax jurisdictions must...

International Trade and Commerce

...International trade and transactions For the past couple of weeks, we have learnt the methods of payments when dealing with the international transactions. Popular methods of payment used in international trade include: Cash with order (CWO)-the buyers pay cash when he places an order. Cash on delivery (COD)-the buyer pays cash when the goods are delivered. Documentary credit-a Letter of credit (L/C) is used; gives the seller two guarantees that the payment will be made by the buyer: one guarantee from the buyer's bank and another from the seller's bank. Bills for collection -here a Bill of Exchange (B/E) is used Open account-this method can be used by business partners who trust each other; the two partners need to have their accounts with the banks that are correspondent banks. Letters of Credit The letter of credit (LC) allows the buyer and Seller to contract a trusted intermediary (a bank) that will guarantee full payment to the seller provided that he has shipped the goods and complied with the terms of the agreed-upon Letter. This instrument, although inherently simple, can have many variations. Although this instrument provides excellent assurances...
