...Angela Jamison Mr. Grubbs Y.A. Literature 12 October 2012 Ann Brashares was born in Chevy Chase, Maryland. She became an editor when she decided to take a year off of school, but stayed there because she loved her job so much. She then wrote her first book, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants ("Ann Brashares author bio"). She said she got the idea from talking with a friend who shared a story about a summer where her and her friends shared a pair of jeans ("Ann Brashares author bio"). The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is about how four very different best friends find a pair of jeans that fit all of them. They decide the jeans are magic because they are all different sizes. Carmen is bigger, Lena is tiny, Tibby is normal sized, and Bridgett is athletic, tall, and lean. So, if the jeans fit all of them, then they must be magic. They decide to share the jeans over the summer and send them to each other throughout the summer because they will all be in different places. Lena went to Greece to see meet her grandparents, Bridgett went to Mexico for soccer camp, Carmen went to visit her father, and poor Tibby was left working at the local grocery store. However, this summer would change all of their lives. For the most part, each one of them experiences a search for love even if they did not mean to. Lena fell in love with someone while in Greece, Bridgett with a soccer camp counselor, Carmen re-established her relationship with her father, and Tibby gained a new friend...

...Gerhard Hernandez Writing Composition 1013 Alyson Martin 01/27/2014 Traveling can be a broadening experience. Nowadays, people are traveling for many reasons Vacations, business, entertainment and many other things. I think that the most important part of traveling is how it can broaden and open your mind. The most frequent arguments for traveling broadening the mind are that you get to interact with different cultures and experience a lot of new things. Obviously how much it broadens your mind depends on how you travel rather than when or how often you do it. In my case, traveling has really made an impression on my life, I have learned so many things by doing it that I would do it again without thinking about it. The most amazing trip I have ever had was the first time I visited the United States of America. That was such an amazing experience, I learned as much as I could. First of all, I thought I already knew how to speak English until I had my first real conversation with an American, by the time we finished talking, I was so disappointed that I started talking to every man I could talk to and had my parents make me order the food in restaurants and fast food places, that was very funny and difficult at first but it became easier throughout the days. Also, I never thought there was going to be such a big difference between cultures, people were so different, I really thought that I was in another world and got pretty impressed with the clean environment...

...Time Traveling If I were to travel through time I would travel back in time. I would travel back in time to the time period of 1920s-1980s in the United States of America. Another reason why I would travel back in time would be in the time period of 1776-1820s in the United States of America. Then my final destination would be the Jurassic Age to see the dinosaurs. As you were reading/hearing what I said I hope that you assume that I like U.S.A. history and how dinosaurs were like. I would see a pleather of things in the time period on 1920s-1980s. For instance, I would get tutored by Albert Einstein himself. Also I will also purchase ten pairs of Back to the Future shoes, and then sell them in the present for profit. I will also see what Northern Cambria (Spangler/Barnesboro) was like. Throughout these years that I would travel, I would get myself different types of suits and get a mint-conditioned Johnny Cash Album –the rare one. The next time period would be from 1776 to the 1820s to see what old America was like. For instance, I would look for George Washington to see what he looked like and to hear how he spoke. Next I would see the Declaration of Independence being made and actually be part of their conference for the Declaration of Independence. Also, since I am a coin collector, I would take hundreds of the first coins that were made in the U.S.A. I will also, from a distance with binoculars, watch how the War of 1812 unraveled and took form. Most likely, the final...

...Amy Ansley Professor Maggie Rowe Writing Techniques I September 9, 2013 Traveling Nightmare At the young age of 25, I packed my children and everything I owned to move across country to prove myself. We lived in Indiana for a short time till home sicken kicked in. At which point I placed everything in storage till a later date and loaded my car down and headed home. The traveling nightmare began a year and a half later. Our traveling nightmare begins on an early August morning at DFW International Airport at 4 am to board a plane headed to Indianapolis. My traveling companion is my sixteen year old cousin Becky. Becky was super excited to fly on an airplane and travel outside of Texas. Neither of us knew what the next few days would have in store for us. We board our plane and watch the sun come up as we take off, this my friends the most the enjoyable part of our traveling nightmare. The plane trip was uneventful. We landed in Chicago and played around in the airport for a few hours. We boarded our second plane, which was a crop duster and scared Becky. We land at Indianapolis International Airport safe and sound. We hail down a taxi to take us to pick up the U-Haul in Meridian Hills, IN. The taxi ride was fun for a few minutes, till I realized the taxi driver was going the wrong way! The taxi driver was more concerned about asking us question about President George W. Bush than where he was going. For some crazy reason he thought everyone from Texas is or was related...

...SURVIVAL TRAVELING Although, Costa Rica is one of the safest countries in the world in which to travel, tourists as well as all visitors, should be cautious just like anywhere across the globe. This chapter of Survival Trekking covers the basics of traveling safely and is intended for the adventure traveler. The purpose of this information is to assist the reader in becoming a “hard target” instead of “soft target” and a statistic we end up reading about in the newspapers. Although I use Costa Rica as the example, these techniques can be and should be applied anywhere in the world that you might travel, because crime and terrorism can happen anywhere, at any time. "If a criminal wants to get me, then there is nothing I can do to stop him." This attitude is typical of many travelers in foreign countries, but there are many things that we can do to prepare ourselves becoming less vulnerable to criminal and terrorist acts. The goal is to turn ourselves into “hard targets” instead of “soft targets,” thus making ourselves undesirable targets, which the would-be criminal will pass and go on to the next unfortunate person. Simply put, it’s like auto theft; if a car thief comes to your locked vehicle with the windows rolled up and an alarm system, then he will most likely go to the next vehicle looking for one that is not as secure. The same can be said for many types of criminal acts as criminals and terrorists look for soft targets that involve little risk and offer...

...Since the beginning of recorded history many different types of artwork have been discovered around the world, and the study of all the art forms have provided much history that leads up to the modern times. The facts surrounding each piece of art tell me a story, but I want to know the entire story about every famous piece of art around the world. What if I could travel back through time to each period in which every famous artwork was created? I could tell a firsthand experience about why it was created, and what the purpose was for the piece. What if I told you that I already had, and that I have already wrote a book about my first hand experiences? Here is a few of my favorite chapters in my new book for you to preview. Roman Civilizations I traveled to Rome around 80 C.E. and I witnessed a firsthand experience of the famous amphitheater, “The Flavian Colosseum.” I could not believe the beauty of this architectural structure at its young age. Since visiting it in modern times is nothing like seeing it in action, and watching the shows there was extremely entertaining. Many theaters were created in the state around this era because of the states policy to provide entertainment to the public, and in the Colosseum specifically the people were entertained with shows of bloody battles between two humans, humans and animals, and two animals (Benton & DiYanni, 2007). The cost for this architectural wonder is still unknown, but the Emperor Titus raided the city of Jerusalem...

...Time Traveling Wanda Castro HUM 205 November 16, 2014 Mark Gainey Time Traveling My name is Wanda Castro and I am a world-renowned art historian and author. I have this special ability to travel through time to any period of history I wish to explore. Today I will take you on a journey along with me; we will make three stops to three different time-periods exploring art from three civilizations. The first will be the Mesopotamian civilization, the second the Egyptian civilization, and the third and final destination the Roman civilization. Prehistoric/Mesopotamian Civilization Well it is time to take a seat, strap on my seatbelt, and set the dials for my first stop the Mesopotamian civilization and on this journey, my destination in this civilization will be the Ziggurat of king Urnammu (Nanna), and it is an architectural piece of art. Hey if you get a little nauseas, there is a barf bag in the seat pocket, for the first timers, off we go. The Great Ziggurat of Ur is an ancient Sumerian ziggurat in Dhi Qar Province, Iraq. The Sumerian King Urnammu (Nanna) and his son Shulgi built the ziggurat in approximately the 21st century BC during the Third Dynasty of Ur, in dedication to the moon God Nanna. They were believed to be dwelling places for the gods and each city had its own patron God. Only priests were permitted on the ziggurat or in the rooms at its base, and it was their responsibility to care for the gods and attend to their needs. The priests were very powerful...

...Time Traveling Historian Gina York HUM/205 October 14, 2012 William Devine Time Traveling Historian As a child I often pondered what it would have been like to live in another time. A time far removed from the time I currently lived in. Would it have been as exciting to live in then as I imagined it to be in my head and would it look anything remotely like I had envisioned it in my “mind’s eye”? In order for me to finally realize my childhood dream I decided to take it upon myself to build a time machine. The question is once I got the time machine built, where would it take me? Would I go back into the past or go forward into the future? I decided that I would choose to go back into the past simply because the future is still open for change but the past has been written; but as an author I was curious to know, had the past been written accurately? I decided that this would be my task. I will travel back in time to verify that what I read in my humanities books was correct. I have tasked myself with a formidable question. What point in time do I want to travel to? How hard it will be to make that decision. Indeed, making the choice turned out to be difficult, but I came to the conclusion that the period I chose to travel back to must have some type of cultural or artistic significance. Of course any given time period produced some kind of cultural or artistic significance. My dilemma was finally resolved when I came to the conclusion that I would simply start the...

...I am a sales person for a clothing company based in Los Angeles, California. I make deliveries to the following cities Riverside CA, Phoenix AZ, Albuquerque NM, El Paso TX, Denver CO. The problem I am facing is I need to get these deliveries delivered within a 48 period. I first begin by calculating the distance from each location to the next. Los Angeles to Riverside – 58.5 miles approximately 1h 55min Riverside to Phoenix, AZ – 322.6 miles approximately 4h 47min Phoenix AZ to Albuquerque, NM – 421.6 miles approximately 6h 31min Albuquerque NM to El Paso TX– 267.5 miles approximately 3h 48min El Paso TX to Denver CO– 636.6 miles approximately 9h 43min To me the best way to complete this delivery would be to start closest to home and move up the map to the nearest state. I research map quest to determine approximately how long it will take me to travel from state to state. I then determine when and where I will need to stop to rest and eat. I can knock out 3 stops in the first day because of their distance. Considering Los Angeles traffic I have to be on the road very early to avoid traffic, therefore I plan to leave at 5 am Monday morning. I can be in Riverside by 6 am to make the delivery and take 30 minute stop for $5 breakfast and restroom break. I can then be in Phoenix by 11 am to make my 2nd delivery, stop to have my lunch that I brought with me and make it to Albuquerque by 6 pm for my 3rd delivery. That is my last stop for the evening. I find a hotel...

...VALUE CHAIN: U.S. Cotton End Consumer Retailers Inbound logistics (Import) Farmers & Laborers Manufacture Outbound logistics (export) Over the last fifty years, the U.S. cotton industry has seen a great reduction in labor force, a significant feat in agriculture R&D and engineering, and the remarkable ability of farmers to unite and take ownership of cotton production. American cotton farmer’s ability to dominate is due to the combination of ingenuity, mechanization, agriculture research and command of the value chain. One must also not forget to factor in America’s history of free and cheap labor though slavery and sharecropping which gave the American cotton farmer a huge head start over foreign competition. Today, The U.S. government plays a major role in the farming industry. American cotton farmers have a large competitive advantage over their foreign counterpart due to government subsidies. Government subsidies guarantee US farmers a minimum of 72.24 cent per pound of cotton. This is almost double that of the global market for cotton, which in 2004, was at 38 cents per pound. The government also requires America based clothing factories to purchase a certain percent of their cotton from American farmers. In addition to subsidies, there are programs that ensure farmers against weather losses, specialized loans, and grants to help to farmers develop new technologies, all to ease the minds of farmers so they “don’t lose too much sleep”...

...demonstration of friendship and the power it has to make a difference in someone’s life. The relationship between the four main characters, Lena, Carmen, Tibby, and Bridget, is a strong one and they all share a special bond between one another. They all depend on one another and rely on each other. There are three instances where this general theme appears in the book. When Tibby has no idea of what she should do next and then Lena arrives to comfort her. Another instance would be when Carmen is at her opening night and she thinks that no one is there to support her and then she sees her three best friends in the front row and she suddenly feels jubilant. The final situation where you see the power of friendship is when Lena finds out that the Traveling Pants are gone. She then decides to go to Greece to find them and to her surprise, there are her friends waiting to go with her. These four characters are the perfect example about friendship and the power it possess. In the novel, you can already tell that one of the main characters, Tibby, has been through a lot in life and that she has this kind of resentment towards people that aren’t her friends. So it is good that she has them to keep her grounded. In the novel, Tibby has a problem. She thinks that she is pregnant causing a major conflict in the book and between characters.
