...Public Speaking, Fate and Free Will Tegan Whichello For centuries there has been a universal debate about if fate or free will makes our life the way it is. In Elizabethan times humans believed in a greater or higher power. They believed that their life had been planned out long before they lived, that no matter what choices they made in the end they would end up in the same place. In William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, Shakespeare challenges us to think about if fate or the choices that we make is what is running our lives. Is Macbeth merely playing the part of a man destined to die a gruesome death or is he a man who chose the path that lead him to be killed by Macduff. At the start of the play Macbeth we are already shown that Macbeth is a fearless and ruthless personality. He is shown as a powerful leader in times of great worry. After the battle in Act 1 Scene 2 seargent says to the king “For brave Macbeth – well he deserves that name – disdaining fortune, with his brandish’d steel, which smoked with bloody execution, like valour’s minion carved out his passage, till he faced the slave; which ne’er shook hands, nor blade farewell to him, till he unseam’d him from the nave to the chaps.” In this statement to the king, seargent has highlighted that Macbeth when his mind is set on a goal would not let any man stand in his way, even if that means killing men along the way. This technique of foreshadowing tells us that just like in the battle, Macbeth will go to any length...

...unit 3 p1 Tumblr Tumblr is a popular social media site that offers users the chance to create and run their own blog. It was globally branded by a trademark “T” for Tumblr. It competes with the likes of twitter, Facebook and Instagram on the global market. Since it formed on 2007; it hosts over 225.1 million blogs. In order to achieve this Tumblr has used marketing techniques such as branding and market relationship. Tumblr aims to provide a service that allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog. Tumblr was created on the ideals of free speech and independent journalism to try and get away from the mainstream media. It also aims to provide a support network for people dealing with mental health issues and is also used as a generic blogging site. The marketing aims and objectives of Tumblr are to become a market leader within the next 10 years. A key step towards this was on 20th may 2013. The business was sold to Yahoo a large search engine for $1.1billion.They have expanded their target audience by producing mobile apps for smartphones on all platforms. This increased their user percentage by as much as 70,000 users within the first weeks. the marketing concept puts the customer at the centre of all decisions before the product of service is developed. this can make Tumblr more efficient by focusing investment on products that customers will need and use rather than investing in products that customers may not buy. Branding: Creating a unique...

...decision-making? Strategic decision-making is the equivalent to strategic planning; it is the process of creating a purpose and/or vision for a business. The business sets goals and targets and pursues to achieve them. Strategic decision-making is essential for making a business strive because of the mass amounts of organization and long time plan production. The business I am currently researching on is Tumblr. Tumblr has a variety of different functional areas of business. Two of them are marketing and sales. Tumblr offers a free service of creating your own blog. Another functional area is finance. Since Tumblr is a free service, some patches of the website are not free. For example, Tumblr offers a lot of free themes for your blog, some are not free though, these themes are advanced and more professional looking for companies or serious bloggers who are putting high grade / professional work on their websites. Tumblr also offers a lot of information about their products like widgets for other websites, like add-ons and even a very informative page about what Tumblr is that includes when it was created, who created it, and the daily count up of posts that are made in a day. Each area of Business requires different communication styles. For example, the area of marketing uses a wide variety of communication styles like verbal, written, and web-based to advertise and pitch ideas for the company. The area of Financing may use written (in-voices, diagrams and graphs), web-based...

...When Technology Meets the Classroom: Multiple Technologies and the Development of a Rhet 105 Learning Environment The University of Illinois has been preparing students for the the next step in their lives since 1867. Initially our group set out to discover how the university is trying to keep up with changing technologies in and out of the classroom. We decided to narrow our focus and take a closer look at the technologies utilized in a Rhet 105 classroom at the University of Illinois. However, before we could assess the technologies in play, we first had to establish what the goals of Rhet 105 are. To get our initial information concerning the goals of Rhet 105 we interviewed a Rhet 105 professor. We then decided to take a look at research that has already been done regarding the technologies that the Rhet 105 instructor is using. After establishing what the goals of Rhet 105 are we proceeded to try to learn what techniques the instructor implemented to try to accomplish these goals. In addition to asking the professor what techniques he used to accomplish these goals, our group observed the classroom first hand. After observing the class, we looked at how Rhet 105 students reacted to the professor’s goals and techniques by doing a student survey as well as two student interviews. First, our group interviewed a Rhet 105 to gather information about the goals for Rhet 105 and how he is trying to accomplish them. We chose to interview an instructor who has been teaching...

...Social networking has become an unquestionable part of our everyday lives. We do not even think anything of it, because so many people have accounts on websites like Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, etc., that are checked and updated daily. Those who have a life on the internet do not always realize that they are losing their connections with the real world. Nowadays, a reputation online is more important, and communication thrives through social networking. New cliques are created, and some are even finding a way to make a living online. Social media seems to have quite the impact, especially on teenagers. However, most do not see the impact that it has. Years ago, before social networking existed, friends would go out and have a good time, and popularity in high school would be something of importance to a lot of people. Today, popularity is the equivalent to having a lot of followers on twitter or Tumblr. Tumblr has its own way of creating “celebrities.” Users are considered “Tumblr famous” if they have a high number of followers. This sure is a way to boost your ego, and also a way to become completely conceited. Websites like these make us think that greatness is achieved just because thousands of strangers are familiar with your face. Popularity is not about having a lot of friends anymore; it is just about being known for absolutely nothing. Social networking has its positives, considering it allows us to connect with friends and family in a matter of seconds. Although this...

...There are many reasons why practices involving breaches of copyright can be defended on ethical grounds. Educators and journalists can contribute greatly to citizen’s understandings of their immediate and global surroundings by using copyrighted materials in their work. Additionally, entertaining cultural products such as television shows also help us understand aspects of life, and the simultaneous viewing of a text through online and illegal means can create a sense of community between nation states. People can then go onto media sharing sites such as Twitter and Tumblr in order to discuss a media product that they enjoyed, or otherwise wish to critique, participating in a discourse that can become beneficial for both consumers and creators. One major concern felt by media corporations is that illegal access to content will affect the economic success of the product, and the producers will not gain the rewards that they deserve for their efforts. Many challenge this notion, arguing that true fans of a cultural product will contribute time and revenue to the creators in appreciation for their work. It is also important to note that in some cases, it is in-fact a positive ethical decision to view content through alternative avenues, as a protest to creators or texts that may be morally questionable. The use of copyrighted material by journalists in order to inform the public about news and events is an an ethical reason to justify infringement. In a traditional sense, a journalist’s...

...KWASI BOATENG PROF. HAMILTON COMM 11 23 November 2015 Reasoning and Analysis: Identity Management "All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts." This quote by Shakespeare sums up impression management pretty well, it is the controlling or regulation of information in order to guide or influence other's opinions of us for social or personal reasons. People can manage almost anything, but the most common is the impressions that we make on others, which is more specifically termed self-presentation. Impression management online and in person isn't always intentional and-or duplicitous because people often engage in it even when they are not actively attempting to do so. In this age of information and technology it's not surprising that the use and control of information plays a central role in our lives, and that’s exactly what social media is. There are any number of reason why people engage in impression management online and in articles by authors Rosenbloom Stephanie, Safronova Valeriya and Jacquelyn Smith, they each talk, to some degree, about the importance of and a few reasons why people use impression management on social media sites and apps. There are people that use social media as a way to reinvent themselves, they create personas that are in no way similar to who they are in person, but that rarely happens, more often than not, people just create a persona...
