...field of multimedia computing system. Multimedia is a popular term these days, and the database community is now currently focusing more on multimedia databases. The reason multimedia is getting so much attention is because of technology trends are now beginning to make it possible to store and display multimedia data types through a computer. Multimedia database systems pose significantly different data management requirements compared to traditional database applications. There are already various operational systems for this task, but they are usually built as special-purpose systems and lack the general capability as exhibited in a database management system...

...Multimedia Databases With technology rapidly changing, it is appropriate to research the topic of multimedia databases and how they affect people as users of this important technology. Whether people know it or not, they use multimedia databases on a regular basis. These databases include everything from data that consists of pictorial images to audio and video files. The main sticking point with multimedia databases is its ability to create a friendly user experience. One good example of a huge multimedia database would be the content provided by Apple Computer Inc.’s iTunes. iTunes is the world’s number one entertainment application that allows you to store your own music, video, images, applications, etc. The iTunes store is where one can clearly see the presence of a phenomenal multimedia database that allows users to also buy and download music, video, images, and applications. Users can then play this content either on their computers, iPods, iPhones, televisions, and other devices as they choose. What makes iTunes so special is its ability to store these different media formats in one easy-to-use store. This term paper will focus on the characteristics and content of multimedia databases and how they have made and can make life for the user of a system so much easier. This paper will also look at the difference between static media and dynamic media in regards to how information from a multimedia database management system (MM-DBMS) is retrieved. Finally...

...Multimedia refers to any application that combined several elements of multimedia such as text, graphics, animation, audio and video. A combination of text, audio, animation, video, images/graphics, and interactivity define multimedia. Each appeals to a human sense. The degree and manner to which each is used has the potential to increase learning. The mix of video, audio, and high quality graphics afforded by multimedia may grab the attention of students, particularly poor readers, in ways that traditional approaches to instruction would not (Kenworthy, 1993). In multimedia environments, learners construct meaningful knowledge by "selecting words and selecting images from the presented material, organizing words and organizing images into coherent mental representations, and integrating the resulting verbal and visual representations with one another" (Mayer, 1997, p. 4). Sound The sound is used to provide emphasis or highlight the transition from one page to another. Sound synchronization screen, so that teachers can submit a lot of information. Creative use of sounds to become imaginative stimulus; improper use, it has become an obstacle or an annoyance. The distance between the two properties amount - the acoustic frequency in each peak height of these wave patterns - (sometimes referred to as pitch) peaks. The greater the distance, low voice. ...I’ve posted about visual literacy is only one of many types of examples of visual literacy. This is to make meaning of the information we see within the pictures that are the text base that are on the image. Learning to read visual images can help you both in your work and life, it makes it easier for us to know what is being said and done in an image. Visual Literacy can also represent your own company for example an advert you want to make to help sell a brand new product your company is hosting, you will use people, pictures and other ways to credit the product We need to learn how to identify, read, and understand images to become literate in visual language in order for us to communicate successfully. I recently came across a website called Wikipedia that said this about visual literacy ” Visual Literacy is not limited to modern mass media and new technologies” I wondered for hours why they said that, and came to this conclusion Visual Literacy isn’t something that is taken away but is taken by the imagination of people on how to communicate in many different ways whether they’re able to speak or not, visual literacy expresses how people feel and what people would like to say but cannot express that, so they use images. Like they say a picture is worth a thousand words. Written by Grant Claude Arendse (Class 1F) The Impact of Multimedia malti_banner4 How Multimedia has an impact on me? A set of design principles for designing interactive multimedia news systems are given that include factors such as the effective use of navigational aids, design of menus, presentation styles, and effective use of media. Examples of effective designs and implementation of multimedia news on the Internet are also given. The impact and benefits of multimedia news on society are also discussed with examples. The paper concludes with some possible designs for future news delivery systems. 1.0 Introduction The news industry is currently undergoing major transformations as a result both of the growing popularity of the Internet itself and of advances in interactive multimedia technologies for the Internet. The types of news sources available on the Internet include newspapers, news wires, cable television, news magazines, and radio stations. New technologies for the Internet include animations, direct manipulation of graphical interfaces, and real time on-demand audio and video. The shift from paper to electronic delivery of news occurred almost simultaneously...

...on corporate data — typically in an alpha-numeric database, and relatively less work has been pursued for the mining of multimedia data (Zaïane, Han, & Zhu, 2000). Digital multimedia differs from previous forms of combined media in that the bits representing texts, images, audios, and videos can be treated as data by computer programs (Simoff, Djeraba, & Zaïane, 2002). One facet of these diverse data in terms of underlying models and formats is that they are synchronized and integrated hence, can be treated as integrated data records. The collection of such integral data records constitutes a multimedia data set. The challenge of extracting meaningful patterns from such data sets has lead to research and development in the area of multimedia data mining. This is a challenging field due to the non-structured nature of multimedia data. Such ubiquitous data is required in many applications such as financial, medical, advertising and Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence (C3I) (Thuraisingham, Clifton, Maurer, & Ceruti, 2001). Multimedia databases are widespread and multimedia data sets are extremely large. There are tools for managing and searching within such collections, but the need for tools to extract hidden and useful knowledge embedded within multimedia data is becoming critical for many decision-making applications. BACKGROUND Multimedia data...

... In the mobile phone market there are currently three firms that are competing for market share. However, there is a close connection between the firms because current government officers or retired government officers sit on the board of all four firms. An independent regulator, the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been set up to facilitate and coordinate competition among the mobile phone firms and to ensure the efficient diffusion of accurate information. The elite connection between members of the board of the five firms and members of the MCMC, who are from the government and the private sector, also facilitates the flow of resources between the members of the network and the interconnection of services between the firms. The MCMC is also required to hold public hearings before making decisions and recommendations to the Minister and this allows for the participation of civil society groups in the policy making process. The private sector has also been empowered as it is free to set rates and negotiate interconnection charges. This article argues that the mode of governance has changed from the command and control type of governance to one which calls for partnership and networking between...

...PowerPoint and multimedia in the classroom has significantly increased globally in recent years (Connor and Wong, 2004; Bartsch and Cobern, 2003), few studies have systematically investigated its impact on student learning and attitudes. Rebele et al. (1998) note that little research exists regarding integration of technology in the accounting curriculum, and suggest that accounting researchers should examine whether technology improves learning. One study that has examined the relationship between multimedia and student learning and attitudes was conducted by Butler and Mautz (1996). In a laboratory experiment conducted during a 30-minute time period, they found that multimedia did not affect student recall in all situations. Butler and Mautz did find an interaction between the effects of the multimedia presentation and the student’s preferred class representation style (i.e., whether the student was considered a “verbal” or “imaginal” learner). To improve the quality of learning in our schools using multimedia is very effective in the teaching learning situation. It benefits the students to grasp information easily, to understand as much information as possible, to retain information longer and to gain knowledge that is observable and measured. Literally, multimedia refers to the process of conveying message using different means. In today's age of technology, it refers to all types of analogs or digital information conveyed through audio-visual presentation. Multimedia machine...

...Introduction The organisation I have chosen to study is Boots. My chosen organisation has many different ways of presenting information. Information can be found from a large variety of sources. These ways include; verbal, written, on-screen, multimedia and web-based. P1 Verbal Face-to-face verbal communication is the simplest type of communication to understand, people are less likely to misinterpret things that are being said. In the business environment it is not always possible to meet in person and is more convenient to talk on the telephone. Telephone conversations are also an effective way of communicating and it is important to use a variety of different methods. There are many ways of using verbal communication. Talking is the most effective and comfortable way for most people to communicate. The purpose of using verbal communication is that it is the simplest type of communication. It is used very often in boots stores. For example when customers come into store and need to find out the location of the product. It is very commonly found on a day to day basis. It is used all the time when communicating to customers. For example yesterday I was helping a customer, whilst working on the perfume counter, to find a suitable perfume for her daughters 16th birthday. Written Written communication is one of the most common forms of communication within the business environment. It is key that small business owners and managers have a good level of effective written...
