...My uncle died with his name at the bottom of a list; his name was Robert Walker. Uncle Bob had worked his whole life to move up the ranks to become a cardiovascular surgeon. But when he arrived to the top, he was unsatisfied; he wanted to take a step even further. To fill the hole of discontent, he and a few of his fellow colleagues created a whole new medical procedure called a heart bypass surgery. In simple terms, a heart bypass surgery entails taking healthy blood vessels from a different part of the body to repair damaged heart arteries. This type of procedure is given to people who suffer from heart failure. Now fast forward a few years and Uncle Bob is now seventy-eight and living in Canada. He was admitted to the hospital late one...

...sitting around the picnic table doing what they do, and in the center of it all was a table and at the center of that table was me and my uncles; Rene, Joel, Henrique. We were just talking, in Spanish, about how full we were with the food and like an anonymous wind blew him in out of nowhere, a man stood in the middle of the party like a statue short on one side, tipsy, and one half of his shirt tucked in and bottle in hand, with glazed eyes he glared at us almost in a panorama. Looking like he was about to keel over he opened his, what I know now as a gaping hole of a mouth, the second he spoke nothing but hate flew from his mouth racial slurs came out targeted at everyone at the party even my youngest cousin got cursed at by this vulgar man. At the end of his tantrum he collapsed on the grass, at that moment I rushed to see who my racial attacker was and before me lying unconscious reeking of booze and other fluids was a white male with a beard, which looked like he never heard of a razor before. Clawing his way through the crowd of relatives my uncle Rene picked up the man on two his shoulder to a lone picnic table and set him down, he told us to get a cool bottle of water for the man, but of course we all refused, why would we want to help a man that so bluntly insulted our elders and our children for being something that they didn’t choose. My uncle insisted so I helped with the water and after a few minutes the man came to, almost vomiting on the...

...organizations by getting them drunk to get information out of them. The second ethical issue is that when Marry lost her job Albert lost a lot of money in high risk markets with his father’s friend’s portfolios. These men were old and that was most likely their retirement fund. Another HUGE ethical and I believe legal issue would be that Albert used his uncle to gain access to law offices and gather information of certain clients and businesses. Mary also used information from her father to help another company take over the one he worked for. Using this insider information is an issue. Legal issues that they face are the emails that marry forwarded with obscene messages and images that caused her to lose her job. As well as Al dealing with blackmail from Barry to give him the IPO information, or else he’ll report him for spinning. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each decision that albert could make or has made- Although Alberts and Mary’s use of insider trading made them a substantial amount of money and enhanced their portfolios; it was still illegal and they could both lose their jobs. The same goes for the use of his uncles keys to gain access to certain law offices. A disadvantage from marry forwarding emails would be that she lost her job. The disadvantage of Albert giving into Barry’s blackmail is that the boss could find out and they both lose their jobs. Although the disadvantage of not giving into the demands would be that he possibly loses his job as well. If...

...Now we're going to talk about calling coyotes in with an electric caller. The first thing that needs to happen is going out and buying a pretty expensive caller to use the cheaper ones do not work as well. Then we need to find a good spot to call them in at, the best luck I’ve had is sitting by some hay bails about 200 yards from a creek and staying very still. After we have found all of these hunting materials we need to get a gun. I use a 243 savage about any type of gun will work. I have put a little extra on my gun just to make it better. I have put a Bipod on it so when I’m sitting on the ground there is some way to balance it without it going everywhere. I have also put a scope on it just so I can see farther and get a better look at...

...Cynthia Howard ENC1101 Essay #2 - Narrative Essay Due Date: February 18, 2011 Username: CHoward4 The plight of the chicken Every time I see a white chicken, fond memories resonate through my mind about the special bond and relationship that I had as a five-year-old girl with my pet chicken. On that day, a lesson was learned about family values and pride. There are many events that have occurred throughout my life that have impacted me as an adult, and this event was one of those events. I can still remember the events that played out during that day, and I believe that I can hear the sounds of the chicken echoing through the woods when I go home for a visit. I was raised on a farm in Kings Mountain, North Carolina with my father, two brothers, and one sister. Although I had siblings to frolic in the woods with, and do fun activities like swim in the creek, or build tree houses, I still felt a need to have a pet for companionship. I spoke to my father about the possibility of getting a pet of my own, specifically a kitten, and he decided that I was too young to tend to the needs of a kitten. He did allow me to pick a chicken from his large coop located in the woods above the house as my pet. If I could prove to my father that I was able to keep up with the responsibilities of caring for the chicken, I may be allowed to get a kitten. This was a ritual that my father had with my older siblings with respect to their desire to have a pet. I remember spending an ample amount...

...the office and he challenged his co-worker. I can relate to this so much because I have a family full of athletes and we have been challenging each other for years in every category of sports. I want to say first off running a 5.77 is extremely slow at any age. But I can just imagine my family members (which are all guys) challenging me to a foot race and actually going outside and doing it. He said guys will take small challenges and that is extremely true. I and my family will argue about who is the best at video games because that just what guys do. But on the other hand I have a few uncles who would never waste their time to sit down and play a video game. Because that isn’t something that men usually do. He also mention that men are more serious than guys which is very true my uncle usually doesn’t talk but when he does he means business I would categorize my uncle as a man. But when he said that guys cheat I would have to disagree with him on that simply because I feel like I do all the things that he would consider a guys does but at the same time I have never cheated on my girlfriend. Another thing that he said that I would disagree with would probably be when he said guys like neat stuff I think that this could very easily fall into the men category as well. I do however think that he is correct when he says that guys don’t have a rigid moral code because I know some guys who I could trust my live with and on the other hand I know some guys who...

...Experiment 4 Projectile Motion Introduction We examined projectile motion by observing a ball rolling down then leaving the ramp, thus becoming a projectile with a horizontal initial velocity. We measured the horizontal initial velocity using the photogate and computer. We measured the horizontal and vertical distances that the projectile traveled from the end of the ramp to when it hit the floor my using a meter stick to measure Experimental Set-Up In our experiment, we used the following: ramp, photogate, steal ball, plumb bob, meter stick, and vernier caliper. Experimental Procedure 1.At the edge of our lab table, we prepared the ramp. 2.Exactly below the launch point, we marked a point on the floor by using the plumb bob. 3.We determined the vertical distance that the ball fell (mm) from when it was launched from the ramp and fell on the floor. We then entered this in our data table. 4.We positioned a piece of paper on the floor to where the ball would land. We put the carbon paper above the paper and taped them to the floor. 5.We fixed the photogate so the ball rolled out and the light beam was blocked and unblocked. The photogate was plugged into the LabPro Dig/Sonic1 port. 6.We opened up the One Gate Timing from the Logger Pro folder. 7.We measured the diameter of the ball with the vernier caliper and recorded it in the computer so that it could calculate the ball’s launch velocity. 8.We launched the ball from a specific height from the ramp so that the ball...

He checks the time on his watch, which is adorned with diamonds, indicating that he has been successful in his business endeavors. The time is three minutes before ten o'clock, the precise moment that they are scheduled to meet. The officer stays a few minutes more, and it is after ten o'clock when he says goodbye and leaves. The man waits twenty minutes more. Finally, another man approaches, bundled up against the light rain that has started to fall. As they chat, Jimmy points out that he has not done as well financially as Bob: he has a position in a city department. He suggests that they go to a place that he knows of nearby, where they can get out of the rain and have a long talk about old times. When they pass through the light emanating from the window...

...FOLKTALES Assignment: Translate the poems into 21st century English In All God’s Chillen had Wings all the slaves had power if they simply just believed that they could fly. They didn’t understand that if all of them pulled together and had faith in the Old man that they could escape the Master, and the driver and all the beatings. I took from this faith and believing was important. In Big Talk it sounded more like what goes around comes around. I took it as both slaves were picking with each other and you should watch what you listen to and not be so gullible. In How to Write a Letter I interpreted this as no matter how educated you are don’t forget where you come from. In this story the daughter was able to go off to school and receive an education and when she came back home it seemed like she maybe forgot the little things that actually mattered in her upbringing like her father’s sounds that he wanted her to write I took it as don’t take anything for granted. Ah’ll Beatcher Makin Money in this story it just showed the greed in the master, how he was willing to sacrifice anything and everything to make money and greed placed him in a place where he didn’t want to be which was dead. Talk Too Much, Anyhow in this story the slave should've known better but the lesson in this story was that some things are just better left unsaid and don’t play with fire. The slave should have thought a little bit more about the consequences in case the frog didn’t speak in which he didn’t...

...Uncle Vanya Grown-up literature is kind of strange and sad, don't you think? Most characters within children's literature, from Tom Sawyer to Harry Potter, struggle against adversity, and ultimately find a sense of meaning and satisfaction in their lives. Most characters in "grown up" books and plays struggle against adversity, which is usually rooted in some psychologically complex inner conflict, and ultimately find that life has no meaning and no guarantee of satisfaction. At least, this seems to be the case with the stories and dramas in my big, thick Literature textbook. And it certainly seems to be the case when that Literature (with a capital L) is penned by a Russian. Such is the case with Uncle Vanya by Anton Chekhov. The play is filled with downtrodden fools, some ignorant, some self-aware; all are miserable because they have pursued the wrong goals. The Setting: Uncle Vanya takes place in a large estate tucked away in the Russian countryside. Possibly, the location was inspired by Chekhov's country home at the time the play was written. In the 1890s, hoping to improve his health and his connections with his fellow man, Chekhov moved his family to a small rural settlement called Melikhovo, located about forty miles south of Moscow. Much of the play finds its characters in conflict with their surroundings. The characters from the city find country life to be unbearably unsatisfying. The country-bred characters find that their city-bred counterparts are infectiously...

...It is no doubt that Scrooge, before he meets the spirits, is a horrible person. He believes poor people should die to “decrease the surplus population”. He hardly pays his clerk Bob Cratchit. He despises his nephew. He is like this because the only thing he values is his wealth. Unfortunately, many people are like this. They think they would rather be rich than have relationships with people. I think Dickens wanted to show people how obsessing over wealth and status could ruin you and take away your humanity, like Ebenezer Scrooge. In Charles Dickens’s timeless classic, A Christmas Carol, symbolism is used as a main component in the characters. The ghosts in the story are used as symbols of how awful a thing human greed can be. The story itself can even be representative of real people’s greed and the author’s perspective on...
