The idea of what is moral has been a debated question for many years. With all the different cultures and beliefs in the world, there is no real understanding of what should be considered wrong as a whole. In the article “Some Moral Minima”, Lenn Goodman argues that there are a number of areas that he considers morally wrong for the universe. My belief is that there are areas such as murder, rape, terrorism and physical abuse that are just wrong period; however in certain circumstances those areas may be justified. In the article Goodman states that everyone should be free to live without being subject to inhumane treatment (Goodman 2010). Many cultures hide behind relativism as a justification for committing immoral acts. According to our textbook relativism is “the view that one's beliefs are conditioned by one's culture, society and or community"(Mosser,2010). A person’s background and up bringing shapes the way that individual views morality.
Goodman believes murder is wrong because ‘it destroys a human subject (Goodman 2010). I have to agree that Murder is wrong although there are a few ways to justify certain forms of murder. . Regardless of what you believe, no one has the right to maliciously take another person’s life. Goodman goes on to say that war is wrong but it is necessary in order to protect the life of innocent people. This same thought applies to people on death row and the death penalty. While murder is wrong there seems to be some instances where, it is necessary to uphold a level of comfortably and safety in the lives of those people in that culture. Many believe that stoning, gas chambers, and lethal injections as a form of punishment is inhumane. But there has to be capital punishment for

We may have encountered poor listening habit which contributes to repetitive of tasks, poor quality output, customer’s dissatisfaction, wrong interpretation and waste of raw materials. How does a poor listening skill affect the overall operation? Several times when I order the required food and beverages at Mamak restaurants, there is bound to be a mistake. I ordered Tea but the waiter shall bring Ice Tea. One of the key weaknesses I noticed in a Mamak restaurant is their waiters shall take order without jotting down in their order record. Another incident related to poor listening skills was with Astro. I called their customer care line to inform the defects on the decoder due to lightening. Their customer representative had wrongly inserted my address and I had to wait up to 10 days for a new installation. Worse I had to call them every day to find out what went wrong. They only found it out one the 9th day that the address was inserted wrongly. My colleague who works as Quality Manager stated that his newly recruited foreign operators from Bangladesh had caused a delay in customer delivery. According to him, his supervisors had carried out the wrong instructions in their operation. The situation fused further as the foreign operators had poor understanding, language barrier and poor listening skills that resulted repetitive of tasks, time and cost. Poor listening occurs at top...

All companies have certain things that happen in the business because of what happened either when they were trying to figure out when setting up the company or from the ways that companies can be affected anymore these days. Back in the day Companies actually didn’t really have a lot to worry about when conducting business. They use to only have to worry about word of mouth and the news that’s how information got spread. Now anymore these days they have so much more to worry about. The reason why I say this is because of now the internet has changed a lot of how things are thought about and done. There is a lot of ways to affect companies on the internet because of things like Facebook and different types of things. The way that Facebook has such an effect on the culture of today employees of companies have to be careful on what they do or say. Most companies anymore if they hear or see that an employee has said something bad about the company then they think that they have the right to fire the employee. Mostly because it can look bad on the company wand with the search engines and everything else anything said bad about the company can actually hurt the reputation of the company and it is so easy to find information on the internet news...

...Individuals’ varying backgrounds result in different sets of ethics. Without this uniqueness, the world would be very plain. Ethics help guide people to make the decisions they believe are just. There are many situations every day that cause people to decide their right and wrong. In scenario one, one of your friends asks about what questions were on the exam you recently took.  Several students, however, do not believe that asking about the material and questions on the exam is a form of cheating. By giving out this information, it is cheating. It is important to look at the ICARE Guideline Process to evaluate this situation. The issue in this scenario is whether or not to tell your friend about the types of questions on the exam. This scenario challenges your integrity, honesty, and professionalism. The second step is considering the facts. By sharing the information on the test you are hurting yourself and others. The consequences of cheating can have lasting impacts. Sadly, not everyone gets caught cheating. But in the long run, these negative choices will come back to bite. It may be a professional exam or final exam in which the student will eventually pay the price. The third step is assessing the alternatives. One option is to ask the friend what questions they are struggling with and help them. You could recommend the student meet with the professor or teaching assistant about concepts they do not understand. Another recommendation would to have the student revisit...

Ethic Issues

...Jordan Gentry Brother Fisher ECEN 398R October 30, 2015 Henry’s Daughters: Ethic Issues 1.  Prioritize the examples of ethical issues you found from most critical to least critical.  Include some explanation to justify your choices. There were a wide range of ethical issues that were brought out in this video clip. Many of them I didn’t recognize nor don’t remember but I did see a few examples of sexual harassment, decisions based on politics and social influences, conflicts of interest, bribery, invasion of privacy, and people taking credit for other people’s work and ideas. Sorting by most critical to least critical I would say that the politics and social influences were the most critical. From the beginning it shows Henry on a yacht bribing someone from DOT to choose GUIDEME. Henry is only worried about person gain and interests and doesn’t seem to have the benefit of the public in mind at all. The oldest daughter, Laura, quickly figures this out and points out that there isn’t even a competition between GUIDEME and OUTOCAR because GUIDEME has already been decided by Henry’s bribe and influence. The next (2nd) issue I would say is the conflict of interest. Not only does Henry know a lot of people to persuade and ask favors from but he also used that power to hire his daughter’s on the project. He could use Laura to help persuade DOT with the final decision but he could also use Julie to get inside information about the work that OUTOCAR was doing. He wanted to make...

Ethics and Morals

...similar, meanings. We will begin with “ethics”. When you begin a new job you may receive a standard operating procedure or manual which explains the employer’s policy and expectations, as well as your duties and what you may expect of the employer. More often than not there is a disciplinary policy included in the manual stating the employer’s rules and the consequences for failure to adhere to said rules. This manual is an example of “ethics”. It is a compilation of rules, expectations, principles, and consequences that uphold the company’s or employer’s “morals”, which brings us to that word—“morals”. The word “morals” is the more personal of the two. It is up to the individual to define his or her own morals. What is right or wrong? What is considered acceptable in one’s own mind and heart? Would taking a certain action go against what is right in one’s opinion? When one answers questions such as these for themselves they are defining their morals. In the field of IT ethics and morals are hugely important. Information and resources are at the disposal of the IT operator that could be private, personal, or secure. It is at the discretion of the IT operator how they will utilize the information that the resources provide. In conclusion, it could be said that one must have morals to have ethics. Ethics Case Paper

...Ethics Case One ethical lesson from this article, is when something is wrong, one should speak up and let their voice about the issue be heard. A second lesson from this case is that a lot of times middle management does not report all of the facts to top management in order for critical decisions to be made. Finally, a third ethical lesson from this case is to tell the truth about effects of decisions or information being presented, so that way it is true and unbiased. All three of the above listed lessons are relevant to someone who decides to enter into the accounting profession. This is because as accounts, one of our duties is to provide accurate and timely information in order for decisions by investors, creditors, and internal managers to be made. Most all of the ethical lessons that were discussed in the case were based on misleading information, or information that was inaccurate when trying to make a final decision. The decisions discussed in the case were not made in order to help make decisions; rather top managers were trying to save themselves and their reputations. The first ethical lesson pulled from the case was that when there is information that is misrepresented or wrongly described, one should not hesitate to speak up. Whether you are looking over information from peers on your own level or information from top-level management or anyone higher in a company than you, one should be able to speak up to misrepresented information. As someone going...

Dmg- Shanhai

...Case Analysis: DMG- Shanghai GM598ON Spring A 1. It is obvious why guanxi and guanxiwang are so important in China. The people are very focused on connections, and building relationships with people. When you have a culture that is that focused on that, it would be illogical not to. I was always brought up to never burn bridges and build good professional relationships, because you never know when you might need a favor. By building the relationships they did, they were able to film in the Forbidden City. That was all due to the fact that the company respected the Chinese culture and religious beliefs. That would have never happened, had they not been sensitive to those aspects. Building relationships is essential to operating a successful business. I know when I sold advertising I would have never had repeat clients had I not taken the time to build good respectful relationships with them. 2. If a company was to go in to China and try to obey all of the rules and regulations they would be eaten alive. There is no way they would be successful. It seems like the only real rule that has to be followed is guanxi. Rules and regulations can be bent when there is a great working relationship and respect from both parties. Obviously, the company is very attentive to that and takes it very seriously. If a company came in worried only about the rules and not the people they are interacting with, they would essentially be booted out of the country. 3. I would think that...

Ethical issues that may be present in this case are deception, and dishonesty. 2. How would you characterize the director’s behavior? I would characterize the director’s behavior as non professional, dishonest, and very deceptive because why can has he not fulfilled what was promised. The resident’s rents were raised to upgrade this pool, and if the money is not used to do so, that is wrong and misuse of funds. He is not taking into consideration the serious concerns of an employee, or the safety of the residents. 3. Is the director an ethical role model? Why or why not? I do not think the director is an ethical role model because he is not conducting himself in a manner that a role model would.
