One person who has a significant influence on me has been one of my neighbors who I grew up with. Her name is Vanessa Rojas. She was a Firebaugh alumni as well who graduated 4 years ago in 2012. She started off at Abbott elementary, then Lynwood middle and finally Firebaugh high school. I’ve always seen her as my role model because she is like an older sister to me. When I moved to Lynwood, at the age of three, she took care of me and treated me like if I was her younger sister. I am the eldest of three and there is this pressure on me to show my younger sisters right from wrong. That's what she helped me with. Vanessa assisted me throughout the beginning of high school. Vanessa influences immensely. She got accepted to my dream school, Berkeley. She proved to me that anyone can do it as long as you work hard for it. Her achievements impacted my life greatly because now I push myself to be better others. It is because of her, that I now want to study abroad and I want to try new things. Her influence on me has been very positive. She motivates me to want to be better and different than others. She taught me that being different than others is ok. Now that I am in the 11th grade I realize that I am only one large step away from the real world. The impact that Vanessa has made on me, greatly helped me mature as a person and as a student.
