...was somnolent with no expression, no laughter, and not able to complete a sentence or her thoughts. She became incontinent, unable to perform ADL’s, unable to roll over in bed, and unable to speak or communicate. Nine years had passed since her diagnosis, she suffered from depression, anxiety, cognitive impairment and she withered away to a mere 100 pounds. January 2010 it all began, the end of the end, she lost the ability to swallow solid foods and liquids and began pureed foods and thickened liquids. By March 2010, she no longer could communicate verbally her wants and needs; she followed you with her eyes. April 2010, her eyes open all the time, she no longer visually followed you anymore, tears rolled down her face all the time. The tremors were constant day and night, she curled up, stretched out, twisting, the medications no longer effective, and moans, cries when you touched her or repositioned her, her skin fragile and thin. In pain, standing orders for sublingual morphine and PRN morphine, none of it mattered, it didn’t help, and she...

...happens slowly, over a period of many years. And there are good treatments that can help you live a full life. No one knows for sure what makes these nerve cells break down. But scientists are doing a lot of research to look for the answer. They are studying many possible causes, including aging and poisons in the environment. Abnormal genes seem to lead to Parkinson's disease in some people. But so far, there is not enough proof to show that it is always inherited. The four main symptoms of Parkinson’s are: Tremor, (which means shaking or trembling) Tremor may affect your hands, arms, legs, or head. Stiff muscles, slow movement, Problems with balance or walking. People usually start to have symptoms between the ages of 50 and 60, but in some people symptoms start earlier Tremor may be the first symptom you notice. It is one of the most common signs of the disease, although not everyone has it. More importantly, not everyone with a tremor has Parkinson's disease. Tremor often starts in just one arm or leg or only on one side of the body. It may be worse when you are awake but not moving the affected arm or leg. It may get better when you move the limb or you are asleep. In time, Parkinson’s affects muscles all through your body, so it can lead to problems like trouble...

...For a young person with little experience, music can be a hard concept, especially singing. At the age of nine, I stepped into the field of music. Little did I know that it would be life-changing. My story begins in 2001. My mother asked if I would be interested in singing. I hadn’t given it much thought. She suggested I join the Phoenix Boys Choir. She explained what it was and how successful it had always been. I decided to try out. When I arrived, I met the conductor in charge of the younger boys. She had me sing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” A few moments later the conductor announced that I had passed my audition and would soon be a member of the training choir. I was so thrilled I couldn’t say a word. This would turn out to be one of the most memorable moments of my life. I was going to be a member of the internationally known Phoenix Boys Choir! I moved up through the levels of the choir quickly. Every boy longs to be in the most elite group – the Tour Choir. After two years, I made it. At 11 I had learned more about music than I could possibly have imagined. I learned music theory and how to read music. By the end of seventh grade I had been to Spain, Italy, and France. In Rome we performed at Saint Peter’s Basilica. It was a blessing to be able to sing in such a holy setting. We also sang in the Florence Cathedral. We traveled around the United States performing with other choirs. Often we sang for dignitaries. I think God blessed me with this talent...

...Huynh Tuong Mrs. Seiller Concert choir class 6th hours Concert at Height High school On Thursday, 29th October 2015 at 7:00 PM in Wichita Heights High school Fall concert. The concert’s director is Mark Walker. I would say that their performance is average good. I was very anxious to attend the concert because the hall actually so bigger and so many people, problems is just have two small microphone. How all people can hear? If we not be quiet, then we could not hear. Frist thing that I want to mention is their focus and freedom. Although I was impressed by the whole concert, songs about the Lord but they didn’t really confident and still they gave everyone in the auditorium a cold, not smile with audience. When they sang some were just yawning or not paying attention to the song at all. However I really impressed by they played instrument. This year, Heights high school better than Bishop Carroll played it. The second that I would like to point out their attitude towards the audience. Some of them stood still, some were moving to the left and some right. They went down the staged in the same line but there was a girl worsened the sense by talking off her robe right on the stage, very unprofessional and impolite. After I feeling deposited and peace. When a young boy sing emotion really high. Third is their styles and chord. In the Kabi Lambe 8th song, they sang beautifully and loudly, they sang the vowed very clear. Some songs they sing and dance. They look...

...or a show. These can be moments of pain, anguish, joy, pleasure, ecstasy, or when a character is desperate to be heard, seen or noticed. The lyric/s that a belt is used on is usually carefully considered. Belting is always a loud, thick, exciting sound and is usually characterized by straight tone leading into vibrato at the most pleasing moment in the harmonic progression to release the built tension. Tip One: Tilt the Cricoid Cartilage The larynx is composed of two main pieces of cartilage: the Adams apple (thyroid cartilage) and a band of cartilage which forms the top of the trachea and the base of the larynx – the cricoid cartilage. By activating what’s called a cricoid tilt, we can adjust the position of the cricoid to shorten the vocal folds. So how to get this working: There are two lumps on your larynx. The top lump is your thyroid cartilage and the bottom lump is your cricoid cartilage. For boys, the top lump will usually be much larger than the bottom. Girls may find this more difficult, and the cricoid cartilage may actually be bigger than the thyroid. Keep a finger on the cricoid cartilage, and make a high-pitched ‘yay’ sound like a kid’s TV presenter. You should feel the whole body of the larynx move upwards and the cricoid cartilage fold inwards into your neck. You’ll feel that this produces a high-pitched, almost cartoonish sound – try a few more yay’s, putting in some more power and going higher. Try some lines...

...Billie Holiday Lindsey Sigel Considered to be one of the most influential jazz vocalists of all time, Billie Holiday had a tremendous life that was both commendable and filled with many hardships. Her singing expressed an incredible depth of emotion that spoke of hard times and injustice as well as triumph. Though her career was relatively short and often erratic, she left behind a body of work as great as any vocalist before or since. Billie Holiday was born Eleanora Fagan in April of 1915. Her mother, at the time, was an 18- year-old house cleaner, and her father was 16-year-old jazz guitarist, Clarence Holiday. They weren’t married, or even living together. Billie was very independent while she lived in Baltimore. She would walk down the streets and causally yell obscenities, Despite everyone’s reaction she did it anyway, because she didn’t want to take any nonsense from anybody. One night when Billie was 11-years-old, she was raped. The culprit was sentenced to three months in jail, and Billie, the victim, was punished and sent to a catholic school for colored girls. In 1928, Billie and her mother moved to Holland, where the Jazz age began. She loved to sing, especially at parties where famous jazz people would appear. She would get paid to be at those parties and do certain things. Later, she was arrested for prostitution, and even though she was fourteen she claimed to be twenty-one. She was sent to another school for colored girls. There were...

...1. In the vocal track of your multi-track recording, all the “P” syllables are very loud and sort of ‘explosive’. What causes this and how can it be eliminated? (2 marks) When pronouncing certain syllables, specifically “P” and “B”, a strong blast of air travelling downward and forward from the mouth creates a massive pressure change, which takes a while to subside. If this were to hit a microphone set to a cardioid or hypercardioid polar pattern in which the diaphragm is inherently relatively slack, the diaphragm can ‘bottom out’ and hit the backplate insulator. Once this mechanical clipping has taken place, it can take the diaphragm a surprisingly long time to recover properly. Some amplitude modulation may also occur where the wanted higher...

...The larynx is a cartilaginous organ located at the front of the neck (top of the neck) from the bottom of the lobe bone - The man's throat is more prominent in the neck than the lady's throat The larynx is a key organ in the respiratory system and acts as a safety valve to prevent the leakage of food or drink during swallowing to the respiratory canal. In addition, it is a basic organ in the speech system where the vocal cords are constricted as air passes through the lungs during exhalation. Anatomical description of the larynx: The larynx consists of several individual cartilages: thyroid cartilage, ring cartilage, and three cartilage cartilage : corneal cartilage, oesophageal cartilage, and cartilage cartilage. These cartilage are related to several ligaments (lining the inside of a mucous membrane) and muscles, and they work to close or distance vocal cords during inhalation or exhalation, as well as during swallowing or speech. ...not only need to inhale quickly and exhale slowly when I sing a song, but I also need to maintain right posture. Emily taught me that when I inhaling or exhaling, I both need to release my shoulder and muscle. When I practice the inhaling, I try to only to mouth to inhale. I also practice to explore the sensation that let the air fall lower than my belly button. Then let the breath fall in faster. After that I felt that my abdomen and lower back expand. When I practice the exhaling, I felt that it is more difficult to expand my belly than inhaling. I have to control my exhalation and have a sustained and smooth exhalation. I want to develop good posture while I breathe. A balanced, free, and flexible posture is fundamental to efficient vocal production and lovely voice quality. Emily taught me that when my body is aligned correctly, taking and using an efficient breath is easier. So I practice the right posture we practiced in the first class when I do the warm up and hum. I also face to a big mirror because that I think it can help me to find my mistake easier. When I practice the warm up. I try to make my voice smooth and gentle as Emily told me in the class. I also tried my best to match the right...

The Tame Bird and the Free Bird by: Rabindranath Tagore THE tame bird was in a cage, the free bird was in the forest. They met when the time came, it was a decree of fate. The free bird cries, 'O my love, let us fly to the wood.' The cage bird whispers, 'Come hither, let us both live in the cage.' Says the free bird, 'Among bars, where is there room to spread one's wings?' 'Alas,' cries the caged bird, 'I should not know where to sit perched in the sky.' The free bird cries, 'My darling, sing the songs of the woodlands.' The cage bird sings, 'Sit by my side, I'll teach you the speech of the learned.' The forest bird cries, 'No, ah no! songs can never be taught.' The cage bird says, 'Alas for me, I know not the songs of the woodlands.' There love is intense with longing, but they never can fly wing to wing. Through the bars of the...

...My Favourite Thing I have a lot of favourite things but there is one specially thing I would like to write about. That is music. Music can be used to express yourself. In religion are they also using songs to pray. I am not the greatest singer actually I can not sing. I love to listen to music. I love to listen to almost every genre of music but I do not like to listen to classic music because that makes me fall asleep. The reason I love to listen to music is because music can describe what you feel. Just for example if you just broke up with your boyfriend or girlfriend then there are many songs that can describe what you feel and sometimes it just touches your heart. Music can also be a lifesaver in an awkward situation. It can example be if you are driving a car and there is a awkward silence between you and your partner then music can save the awkward silence. Songs can describe what you feel. When you are sad and tired then you can listen to music so it can brighten up your day. You can deliver a message with a song. A song can be as beautiful as a poem. It can tell you a life story just in 3-4 minutes. For every song there is a certain place where you were when you listened to the song and it can bring memories back. Not all of the songs are great today. Some of the songs are so catchy but the lyrics do not make any sense just like ‘’Gangnam Style’’. Not many people know what he sings but they still sing along. Music is universal and that is also one of the reasons why...

...Use rhythm, music and singing to tune IN your students to working WITH you and tune OUT the worries and distractions of other thoughts. 30 seconds of a good backing track can engage a class far more quickly than 30 minutes of our voice and instructions. They tend over time to ‘tune out’ our voices. Music instantly engages. Rhythm, music and singing help build a collaborative ‘group’ identity – the ‘singing tribe’. Call – Response patterns that emphasise rhythm and sound. eg: 1) Warm ups – French Boom Chicka Boom – (see pdf) • Using praise praises for the whole class to chant ‘well done’ to good contributors • Get the children to take over the ‘Call’ function as soon as possible from you. You are modelling skills and empowering them to model to each other as well. Children leading others is a very powerful re-inforcer and motivator. 2) Injecting backing tracks into lessons at key points • allows you ‘pick up’ or ‘calm down’ a lesson depending upon the mood. • allows you to overlay any lyrical content that you want to highlight from your lesson. • You can use songs from Sing Up website but you can also simply use the backing tracks of some key songs Example Let’s Dance backing track from Sing Up website Suggest some lyrics to practise to this track from any work you have done today. Can you see a way in which children could be asked to suggest some simple lyrics that summarise key points of a lesson...
