Water

...Causal Analysis: Bottled Water Causal Analysis: Bottled Water Ashlie Delaney Galen College of Nursing Bottled water has been around for centuries. While the aqueous solution in the bottle is imperative to your health, there are drawbacks to that liquid gold. And the package it rests in. Let us start of with a little history. One of the oldest discoveries of bottled water dates back to 1450 BC. There were murals painted the walls of ancient pharaohs tombs depicted canteens filled of the liquid. The Roman’s built one of the very first water transporting system. In 1767 water was first bottled in America under curative properties. ...18, 2013 I choose to speak about bottled water. To me, bottled water is the safest water to drink. According to ncbi.nlm.nih.gov, “Consumption of bottled water is increasing worldwide. Prior research shows many consumers believe bottled water is convenient and has better taste than tap water, despite reports of a number of water quality incidents with bottled water.” I must say I agree with this statement. I say this because of the many incidents in the tap water. Who wants to drink the same water the bathe with? “They find that U.S. consumers are more likely to report bottled water as their primary drinking water source when they perceive that drinking water is not safe. Furthermore, those who give lower ratings to the quality of their ground water are more likely to regularly purchase bottle water for drinking and use bottle water as their primary drinking water source.” With that being said, I will give a more detailed explanation on this issue. Firstly, I will use this graph to discuss bottled water in terms of its current target market demographics using U.S. Census Data.  As we examine this graph we see that bottled water is widely used in several of countries. In each category we see an increase in the demand of the bottled water. Total consumption of bottled water increased per person increased by at least 30%. According to research from ncbi.nlm.nih.gov, “after years of substantial growth in sales, the U.S. bottled water market is recently slowing down. The current...

The Bottled Water Deception

...3-23-2011 Final Draft The Bottled Water Deception Have you ever thought twice before taking a sip of that refreshing purified bottle of water? I never did, until the day I learned the truth. Bottled water is everywhere; it’s convenient, and manufacturers have made it their mission to make sure you buy their Natural Spring Water. The quality of the water we drink is essential for a healthy life. Yet the quality of water used for bottled water is only required to be as good as tap water, but it is often worse (Strand par 2). On top of this, the plastic that water is stored in can leach synthetic chemicals into the bottled water, making it even more harmful (Strand par 4). The most saddening part is the fact that averages of 60 million plastic water bottles are disposed of every day, in America alone (Strand par 10). Not only is America and many other countries drinking unhealthy bottled water, but many of them aren’t recycling their used plastic bottles, causing our landfills to be filled with huge quantities of plastic waste. According to BottledWaterBlues.com, columnist Charles Strand, CEO of Sun Water, and Author of “All About Water”, “It requires 3 times as much water to make the bottle as it does to fill it... it is an exceptionally wasteful industry.” The most valuable health information anyone can learn might very well be the significance of healthy water. Water makes up 70% of our bodies; this fact tells us that the quality of the water we put into our bodies is particularly...

Bottled Water vs Tap Water

...Bottled Water There are many different kinds of bottled waters for sale in this modern day. Some bottled waters are carbonated, flavored, or have added chemicals for cleaning purposes. A twenty ounce bottle of water cost’s around one or two dollars. In reference to the water bill from my parent’s house in the town of Chesaning which is in Saginaw County the cost of water is three dollars and thirty cents for one thousand gallons of municipal water (Ebenhoeh D). Not only do bottled water companies use up the earth’s water supply, they use massive amounts of plastic, and the water they sell that is supposedly cleaner and more healthy than tap water, is less healthy and has more contaminants than tap water. Bottled water is no cleaner than municipal water. In the United States bottled standards are set and regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards for cleanliness are not as high as the regulations set for city or municipal water set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). According to Lauren Posnick of the FDA, bottled water can have up to two hundred and fifty parts per million of dissolved solids and still be clean enough to sell (Posnick). Drinking water that comes through the tap is monitored through the Environmental Protection Agency, also known as the EPA. The EPA standards for water are much higher and much more thorough than the FDA. According to the EPA the FDA allows up to two hundred and fifty...

The research proves if you have safe drinking water in your municipal you should drink the tap water. There are benefits of drinking municipal water because studies found bottle water and municipal water the same in safety. Do You Know What Evian is Spelled Backwards? Naive Water is an essential part to human life. We as humans need around eight to twelve cups per day to make up for the fact that throughout normal functions such as breathing and sweating we lose an average of ten cups per day. To make sure that we are healthy and everything runs properly, we must make sure we drink the right amount of water (Diet and Health). The one question when thinking about water is what type of water will you drink? Many people in the world today are switching from drinking tap water to drinking bottled water. The number of people who drink bottled water has been rising over the past few decades and by an average of 7% per year. Some reasons for this could be because bottled water is convenient and is said to taste better and be healthier for you than tap water. However this is not always the case. The water that you just paid for could have possibly come out of the municipal water supply. The global consumption of bottled water was 154 billion liters in 2004, up 57 percent from the 98 billion liters consumed in 1999. Even though most of the time bottled water...

The Story About Stuff Project Reaction Paper

...Free Range Studies – The Story of Bottled Water”, was very informative and interesting. It begins by telling us that our world is a “system in crisis” and that we are “trashing the planet”. Annie Leonard begins to explain the dilemma or controversy between which is better, tap water or bottled water. Her example of Cleveland tap water versus Fiji bottled water showed that there has truly been a misconception with bottled water everywhere. It was mentioned in the video that, “In many ways, bottled water is less regulated than tap.” Although some people may think that bottled water is cleaner and tastier, the truth is that since it is less regulated, it has a higher chance of holding unwanted chemicals and bacteria. Bottled water is also 2,000 times more expensive than tape water, which is given to us free at our homes. With Americans across the country buying and consuming “more than half a billion bottles of water a week”, the U.S. is creating enough recycle waste to “circle the globe more than 5 times.” This overbuying of bottled water goes back to the concept of “manufacture demand” where companies us tactics of scaring us, seducing us, and misleading us. Going back to my point of the misconception of bottled water, companies create these images and beliefs that their water comes from natural, pure springs, but about “1/3 of bottled water comes from the tap”. Two known companies of this are Aquafina, and Dasani. The process of making bottled water is a rather dangerous process to...
