When writing a paper I always try free writing everything that is going on in my mind about a topic to get it all out in the open. Even if my thoughts are biased, completely random or repetitive, or have no truth to it I find it easier to see which side of the argument I more agree on or if any of my thoughts have any real basis to them. After I get all of my thoughts in the open I underline key points and try researching them to see if there is any research to support them. Illegal aliens are as stated illegal; illegal acts are to be judged and then condemned by law and then taken care of. The act of crossing over the border is illegal; it is unfair to the thousands of immigrants trying to come over to the states the legal way; this is perhaps also why the process to come over is so hard to begin with. Amnesty should not be granted because it would only worsen conditions for those already in the states; illegal immigrants should not gain access to social security benefits; if they have been paying for it to begin with it is because the only way they could be paying for it is through the use of some one elses stolen ssc number; if they came over illegally they did not have one to begin with; why give them something they did not earn? Illegal immigrants would take advantage of welfare and medical aid; it just doesn’t seem fair to give those that are illegal get better benefits than those that are already here. We are also suffering; the USA has fallen into a state of job loss and financial crisis. We are struggling as is, so why or even how would we have the recourses to provide for illegal immigrants as well? For them to gain amnesty, it would mean taking away from the paying American; more taxes would ensue, and more suffering would follow. Half of what I wrote is completely opinionated and the underlined portions could have some basis of truth; I would then “Ask Questions” about the subject so I can determine exactly what I am uncertain of. Though there are questions in my free write this gives me room to ponder over and make rational questions. How would US citizens be affected if amnesty were to be granted? Would this put us in an even worse financial crisis? How would the economy and job outlook look like? Would they be worse or better? Would amnesty be fair for those who have been trying to be US citizens the legal way? Would that not brush off all of their efforts? If amnesty were to be granted for those already here, wouldn’t that mean more immigrants would try to cross the borders? And wouldn’t that make the issue even worse? After considering my free writing and my questions it gives me a good place to start off researching the topic further.
