Week One Assignment

1. Who was the sender? The sender of the first email was my branch manager at the time. I am no longer employed with this company but it is not due to this situation. He is the type of person this is very hard to explain in words. You would have to experience his ways. The second was between to other employees in the same branch office. This experience was due to lack thereof communication and assumption. 2. Who was the receiver? In the first scenario I was the receiver and this email caused a drastic issue within the work place. In the second scenario, it was between a receptionist and an inside sales rep. that believes he is more important than words. 3. What was the message? The message was sent to my manager’s boss. I was copied on it when it was replied to by this gentleman. The issue was I had done serve damage to my arm. I was seeing a doctor and having physical therapy on my arm. This job consisted of a good deal of lifting and repetitive work. I was under Workman’s Comp. so I was not actually supposed to be working. The message consisted of several comments stating I was not able to keep up with my job, and it was time to look for other arrangements. In the second the inside sales rep. put a order in front of a already over worked receptionist and did not say a word. 4. What channel was used to send the message? Email and no words spoken. 5. What was the misunderstanding that occurred? When I read the email, I perceived the words stating that I was no longer able to do my job to their standards and they were going to “make other arrangements” which told me that I was going to be let go. In the second, the receptionist returned the paper back into the inside sales rep. order box because she did not know what it was or what was supposed to be done with it. Therefore, since it was dropped off at the wrong location, it was not processed correctly, which made it late for the Commander. Since this happened, the Commander had to locate the paperwork, get it to the right location, and have them expedite it back to him. ...Discussion #1 Receivers can provide feedback through body language and eye contract. For example, if a person is falling asleep or rolling their eyes, it shows they are not interested or not listening to the sender. If a person is talking to somebody else that could mean they are also disinterested with what the sender is saying. This has a negative effect on the message because it will likely get lost in translation. The sender may feel offended thinking they are wasting their time talking to the receiver. The receiver also may think that their time is being wasted so that is their way of showing their dissatisfaction without verbalizing it. Feedback that non verbal would be through body language, not speaking is a form of non verbal communication, because you are still relaying a messages even when you don’t talk. When a veteran lead truck driver, of 30-plus years, faces a tour manager who has no idea of the transportation logistics of time travel for tractor trailers, the results are explosive as well as expensive. Concert tours consist of many elements that if there is just one hiccup, the domino effect cascades like a waterfall. The transportation logistics is just one piece of many within the structure. Traveling from point A to point B, safely, and on time, is the goal of the transportation element. When just one truck is late with equipment the domino effect starts, costing into the thousands of dollars. Herein sets the scene for lack of communication between sender, the lead truck driver and receiver, the tour manager. From Portland, Oregon, to Chico, California, it is 490 miles, nine hours of driving. That is an average speed of 54.4 miles per hour for nine hours non-stop. That is on flat, straight land. Between Portland and Chico, there are two mountain ranges to cross with an elevation of six to seven thousand feet. If a semi is loaded heavy, traveling speeds up the inclines can get down to 25 to 30 mph. There goes the average traveling speed needed to reach destination within that nine hours.
