The overall opinion as to why safe injection sites will benefit our city is that it had the possibility of helping addicts recover and bring down the overdose rate. Additionally, consolidation drug users in to one area could make the rest of the city a cleaner and safer place. However, there are many drawbacks to this program such as concerns over how successful it will be. Many critics have stated that the sites, while they may lower death rates, they will not be able to help addicts recover and will only worsen addictions. John Walters has even gone as far to say that the sites would be “keeping people alive as they are slowly committing suicide.” Many have stated confusion as to how this program could possibly be legal and at the moment
