What Do I Want Most In Life Essay

A thought provoking question you should ask yourself everyday is, what do you want most in life. There are many things people want materialistically or ideally. It can go all the way from fancy cars to world peace. For example, Martin Luther king wanted to give equal rights towards African Americans because they were very supressed at that time and you can say Dr. King accomplished what he was trying to do. Some people work their whole lives to buy a car they've always wanted, and they accomplish it. Different people desire different things. Some people work for themselves to find self euphoria and others assist people to pursuit their own happiness. The text/videos and authors I will be referring to in this text are first off , Anthem by Ayn Rand, “Emancipation Proclamation” by Abraham Lincoln, “Prometheus” found in greek mythology, Critical thinking by Leo, and our very own socratic seminar we had as a classroom. I feel as if I can apply the question , “what do I want most in life” to each of these text/videos because they were trying to find a way to accomplish their vision. I want most in life is to find my happiness
First off, I will be talking about Anthem by Ayn Rand. …show more content…
During this time one of my peers who I won’t name, inspired me to try my best in whatever I do to get what I want in life. The question they were asked is the very one I am asking you the reader. “ what do you want most in life”. They said that they would just want to make a change in their lives, or to even just be remembered as a good person. That really related to me because that’s how exactly i was feeling. I don't want to be just another person. I want to make a difference for people , I want to help as many people as I can in my lifetime. I don't want to remembered as someone selfish and

...What is Personal Statement Overview of the Personal Statement Personal statements are sometimes also called "application essays" or "statements of purpose." Whatever they are called, they are essentially essays which are written in response to a question or questions on a graduate or professional school application form which asks for some sort of sustained response. Some applications ask more specific questions than others. There is no set formula to follow in shaping your response, only choices for you to make, such as whether you should write an essay that is more autobiographically focused or one that is more professionally focused. From application to application, requested personal statements also vary widely in length, ranging from a couple of paragraphs to a series of essays of a page or so each. Personal statements are most important when you are applying to an extremely competitive program, where all the applicants have high test scores and GPA's, and when you are a marginal candidate and need the essay to compensate for low test scores or a low GPA. :: Context Considerations How are personal statements read, and by whom? It's most likely that your personal statement will be read by professors who serve on an admissions committee in the department to which you are applying. It is important in developing your personal statement to carefully consider this audience. What are the areas of specialty of this department, and what might it be looking for in a graduate...

500 Word Essay For College

...College Essay Most college scholarships ask you to write a 500+ word essay, which isn’t that bad, but what is the reason behind it? Do most people that require an essay ever read them? Seriously, who has time to read a 1000+ word essay and chose from the best. Personally, that doesn’t seem to be fair because most people have trouble writing a paragraph, and then we are expected to write a huge essay telling about something in our life or respond to a weird question with a topic that most people won’t even think about. With topics such as, “Explain how your life changed with a death of a parent,”or “How would college affect your career,” or even “Why I deserve this scholarship.” Well, I’m going to explain everything I possibly can. The death of any parent would make anyone change, because no one is the same; we are all unique. With my dad’s death I didn’t know how to act for the longest time, and I still don’t; I say this because the day my father died, the doctor called all of my family back where he lay, hooked up to life support, lifeless. Just looking at his body, I didn't feel anything; however, I looked at the situation as is he wasn’t really dead because I was 12 and didn’t know...

Critical Argument

...circumstances that they are not ready to face. The three essays that I will analyze has their own identity of fear about something. The author of “Do We Fear the Right Things” talks about different fears that people have. On the “Bang, You’re Dead" article, the author’s argument is that the fear of what people see is what people do is not always true, and fantasy is just what it is. The third essay “Parents Need Help”, talks about how parents are the only ones responsible for their own children when it comes to violence on video gaming. The question is do the authors supported their arguments and how clearly they proved their essays. On the essay, "Do We Fear the Right Things" the author used facts, statistics and other fears in life in general to prove his argument. I think the author discussed his thesis well by using his own opinion and theories of people's fear in general. The facts and statistics that he used got my attention and made the essay an interesting one. There are really other threats that we should worry about, because no matter what we do risk will be there. He also said that it is normal for people to fear other things than fear itself. The author on the essay “Bang, You’re Dead” talked about how fantasy violence is good for a child rather than bad. He argued that children likes fantasies because they can be whatever they want to be in their own fantasy. He used publications and mostly his own opinion on his argument. I like the way he argues that fantasy gives everyone...

Reflection

...The beginning for this quarter the way my attitude was toward this class was why do I even need to take this course? I felt that I already know how to write in an appropriate manner especially since I do it on a daily at work but when it comes to a proper essay or the etiquette and structure I had no clue whatsoever. I honestly did hate the fact that out of every course I have so far taken this course had the most homework and now I understand why since there is so much to learn about the guidelines within a perfectly appropriate paper. Throughout the course I have found out there are many types of essays that are typed for appropriate matters or when it comes to certain points that need to stand out. There is the expository paper which is when you need to explain a theme or an idea to your intended audience and this style has a well-defined thesis. A persuasive essay is when you try to convince the audience or reader on a position you have about a certain topic or point of view. You are trying to persuade the readers and let them know you are correct. Analytical essay is when you analyze and examine a type of product which can consist of a book, poem or even a play or major even that happened. This essay basically explains the topic you want the audience to understand and you state the facts about the topic and inform them about everything you know with proof. Argumentative essays are a type of essay with your own personal opinion, theory and hypothesis about an issue that is correct...

...many and most students my age, this is a very stressful time in our lives. Writing essays, filling out applications, keeping up relationships, and making important decisions is the only thing on our brains. In all of this chaos we tend to forget to ask ourselves, “Why am I doing all of this?” The essay prompt presented by Trinity’s Honors Program was a good reminder of what education means to me and why I want to dedicate the next phase of my life to furthering my education. What you choose to spend your time doing in college is more than just a “phase.” These years are pivotal to the decisions and life choices that students will make. Choices like this can be handled frivolously or with great care. The course of how they are handled often goes hand in hand with discipline. For me, throughout high school, I feel as if I have been extremely disciplined in my studies and extra-curricular programs. I would say this is a crucial trait to have going into any major, but especially when dealing with God’s Word. This is something that can’t just have some dedication; it can’t be taken lightly. As I plan on entering the MDiv program, I know that I need to have this discipline and dedication. I am...

Compare and Contrast

...These days many people want to feel like they belong to a community but many are pressured to accept their roles in society. The informative and narrative essay “Can You Tell the Truth in a Small Town” by Kathleen Norris focuses on a small town community in the Dakotas in order to explain a bigger picture on how American society does not want to highlight failures and mistakes from the past. Norris conveys many individuals apart of this community have been trying to remember things the way they want to than how things actually are in reality, and therefore the community masks the truth and hides their history. On the other side of the spectrum, the informative and revealing essay “A Secret Society of the Starving” by Mim Udovitch validates the way individuals, especially young girls, engage themselves in dangerous activities and behaviors because of the familiar environment they have with others who can relate to them. Specifically in Udovitch’s essay, she targets a population of young girls who have an eating disorder and seek an emotional understanding within others on websites that promote an eating disorder community by sharing their experiences. Norris and Udovitch present different issues regarding communities in their essays, but they both explain that acceptance in American society affects how people cope with their problems, how they tell the truth, and what crucial details of their stories they leave out for others to hear. In both essays, females are pushed to follow...

Freedom of Bad Words

...about what the weather is like today. It is the right to say them or not. And most people have touch with bad words since little, maybe at age of 12 or at the age that cannot remember things. But in this essay "cuss time", the author Jill McCorkel has an activity with his 8-year-old son, and the son has freedom to have a speech in the activity. The essay is to describe freedom of speech, and not only about speech, about thoughts and ideas. People always tell the other people what should not say or what should not to do, furthermore this means we draw a circle for ourselves which we need to stay in. McCorkel let readers know that "We build a world around negatives -you can't say [...] then you can get away from a lot of things." One of the most common "negative" things in the world is teaching children not to use "bad words". In order to express freedom of "bad words", I believe this essay is more about freedom, freedom of talking, freedom of behaving, freedom of thinking. She is trying to make her viewpoint, let people talk freely, do things freely, think freely, make the circle disappear, make the world we built disappear. When I first read this essay, it remained me one thing in my childhood. I remember I was around 11 years old or 12 years old, I started to hear some "bad words" in school and from my friends. Also like other kids did, I started to say "bad words", of course, it depended on who I was talking to. Once I had a conversation with my mother, I was...
