...I think that being in Honor Guard means always helping anyone you can and do not think twice about it. I think it's more about the people behind the scenes working with one another in order to keep things running smoothly. AFJROTC is a cadet runned program, and with that, there needs to be leaders that are willing to help and step up to the plate in order for everything to go as planned. To be in honor guard creates a community service team that helps everyone arounds them. Why do you want to be in Honor Guard? I would like to be a part of honor guard in order to truly help more people around me. I know that things can get difficult at times, and if I’m able to help alleviate one’s stress about it, really gives me satisfaction. I would like to challenge myself in a way that I could grow and learn new things from the experience and that I know will help me in the future. Honestly, I just really want to help others because I know the feeling of just wanting to give up and to not deal with anything anymore, but I had people help me get back to my feet. This would be an amazing way for me to repay and show my gratitude of the help of those people....

...By definition, to be a soldier is to be engaged in military service, especially the Army. To me, being a professional American soldier means so much more than that. To begin with, not everyone has what it takes to be a soldier, and even fewer people have what it takes to be an American soldier. I take pride in serving my country and defending the people I love. I believe that to be a professional soldier you must uphold honor, respect, integrity, courage, and loyalty at all times. In order to be a professional soldier you must exceed being an example of an individual who displays honor. An honorable individual is honest and shows integrity in their actions and beliefs. Honor to me is standing by your own convictions when they are correct and...

...they mean many different things. In ten years I would see myself in college because my education is important to me. No matter what is going on in my life I will always want to go to college so that people can be proud of me. What I will be doing is learning about the law so, most of the time I will be reading, writing, and math is used in the career that I would like to do. The career I will have is being a lawyer. The reason I want to be a lawyer is that I like to help people in hard situations. Choosing this goal is important to me because I want to be the person to say “ I made this person happy” and because I will be a hero for saving people in their needs. Other than money the career will give me a chance to see other people’s lives instead of just mine. What relationship that school does for m to help reach my goal is teaching me about being respectful, solving math problems, reading papers, and writing things out. This stuff is useful because we have to use all of these things in that career. Medium-Term Goal...

...broken down to us in the acronym ‘LDRSHIP’. Loyalty “Bear true faith and allegiance to the U.S. constitution, the Army, and other soldiers.” Duty “Fulfill your obligations.” Respect “Treat people as they should be treated.” Selfless Service “Put the welfare of the nation, the Army and your subordinates above your own.” Honor “Live up to the army values.” Integrity “Do what’s right legally and morally.” and Personal Courage “Face fear, danger or adversity (physical or moral).” We are all drilled on these 7 army values from day one of basic training. First we commit them to memory. Then we learn to live by them. The three Army Values that pertain the most to this particular incident are Loyalty, Integrity, and Honor. What I am going to do is define each using the Army’s definition and then state how I did not use them. First being, Loyalty- is bearing witness to your allegiance to the US Constitution and its ideals, to the Army, to your unit, to your fellow Soldiers and subordinates, and to yourself as an Army Professional. Loyalty means placing your professional obligations and commitments before your personal ones. It means dedication to carrying out all of your unit’s missions and to serving faithfully the values of the country, the Army, and your unit. Loyalty is a value that has to be worked upon; Non Commissioned Officers cannot just demand that their troops be loyal to both them and to each other. Loyalty to one’s own unit and to other soldiers also...

...One of my goals in high school was to become a member of National Honor Society. I always admired the individuals that were inducted because they were known for being diligent workers, intelligent, and selfless. It has been an enormous honor to be part of this organization for which I worked exhaustingly to get into. The four pillars of National Honor Society represent a whole embodiment of virtue one must poses to qualify for this distinction, but the true representation of the four pillars is how they build one’s character to prepare them for the future. First, the pillar of scholarship represents an intellectual student. It is through time, dedication, and commitment to learning that a student gains knowledge. This pillar has motivated me to understand that in order to gain the most out of education you must be willing to spend time studying and reading to comprehend the subject. However, the pillar of scholarship does not restrict to school. By committing myself to earn the best grades is a representation of the dedication...

...overcome failures and setbacks. It makes or breaks the habits in failure and success, and it applies to all of us. It is a need we all have in our lives. It is the need for courage. “That's why courage is tricky. I mean any fool can have courage. But honor, that's the real reason you either do something or you don't. It's who you are and maybe who you want to be. If you die trying for something important, then you have both honor and courage, and that's pretty good. I think that's what the writer was saying. That you should hope for courage and try for honor. And maybe even pray that the people telling you want to do have some too.(Atom 1)” This clearly sums up how you define courage, in my opinion. With courage comes honor. When you face your obstacles knowing that they’re going to be hard or tricky, or break a habit that is courage. Although, when you do them the right way and come out on top. That is truly an honor. A person who never...

...MY PERSONAL LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY “To Lead with STRENGTH” My ultimate purpose in writing this is to share to everyone my personal leadership philosophy – what I believe to be important as we go on with the service. I believe that in imparting this set of guidance, you will come to understand who I am, what rules I live and work by, what you can expect from me and what I expect from you, and how I will evaluate your performance. In view hereof, I hope you will learn to trust my actions and know where I am heading. As I round up my values in life, I found out that the foundation of all my feats as I go up the ladder of my career is my STRENGTH. It always gives me the direction; it serves as my compass. The STRENGTH that I’m referring to here is neither physical nor psychological, but rather the energy to organize myself to effectively and efficiently perform my tasks, and the power to unite all of us so that we are able to attain the Army’s Vision of becoming “a professional, capable and responsive Army that is a source of National Pride.” And being your leader, it is my primary duty to impart this STRENGTH so that each of us here will have a moral compass to guide us through the maze of intellectual, philosophical and emotional issues that encompass our lives and the Army. STRENGTH outlines my character and translates to: Selfless service, Trust, Respect, Empowerment, Nobleness, God, Teamwork, and Humility. Selfless Service: When I speak about selfless service, it...

In modern Paganistic terms, as previously stated, it represents the fifth element of Spirit. But what is the element of Spirit? The element of Spirit is all other elements combined to create and fully attune their power. The element of Spirit then can be understood to be the element of balance. It includes both fire and water as well as earth and air. As these elements...

...What is a hero? What is a hero? By definition a hero is “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities" (Hero). We could even look as far back as the Greeks, with their gods and demigods, humans born with super natural powers that could take out an entire city with a flick of their wrist, because of their powers they were called heroes. These gods were feared and worshiped, religions were started because of their tales and accomplishments. Despite all these powers and abilities, one thing is not mentioned, core values. I feel a hero is a combination of values, because bravery without courage, integrity, humility and honor can mean all the difference between being a hero and being lucky. To me a hero is someone who puts all others in front of himself, who puts personal gain and ambitions on the back burner for the betterment of others or the greater good. Others define heroes as someone who signed their name on the dotted line to serve this country, or a person who gives blood in the Publix parking lot, we all have different views and opinions on what a hero is, but I think we can all agree, a hero puts others' lives before their own. What we should all understand, is that all of us have the potential to be a hero, the right person in the right place at the right time, can make all the difference in the world. After reading the other assigned stories I am drawn towards Bodega Dreams, the only character that could fit the definition of a hero is Mr. Tapia....

...Pathos is the way the author/character appeals emotionally to the audience. By showing and relating to emotion the audience is easier persuaded. Logos is a logic appeal which convinces the audience through logic or reasonable facts. Caesar’s funeral scene when Brutus and Antony give a speech give plenty of appeal to the audience. When Brutus starts his speech he tells the listeners, “believe me for mine honor, and have respect to mine honor, that you may believe…” By using the word ‘believe’ Brutus is giving credit to himself, which is ethos. In other words he is telling the audience, “I am a believable man, so trust what I am saying.” By using starting the speech like this is makes the audience listen right of the bat. Another time when Brutus uses the emotional appeal is when he is speaking of Caesar. Brutus’ main point is that he loved Caesar but he loves Rome more. He goes on to explain, “as he was fortunate, I rejoice at it; as he was valiant, I honor him.” This quote is showing both...

...School at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers would be a huge honor to not only me, but my dad. My dad was in the Marine Corps and he could have been a guard. I asked him if he would have wanted to and he said it would have been the greatest honor he would have ever had, but he had a family that he needed to be with. To be standing on the same marble as thousands of others that have worked harder than ever to be guarding the tomb would be a dream come true for me. I am not that interested in history, but when we saw a video on the guards and what they go through in class I wanted to keep watching it. Ever since I watched that every time I hear twenty-one I think of the guards and how everything they do is based...

...Tonya Mejia Biblical WorldView September 19, 2014 Introduction In beginning of time, we were all created in the image of God (Genesis 1: 26-28). 1 John 4:8 states, “Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” That means a lot to me because without God we don’t have anything. Education is such a great encouraging and life altering career which offers me many opportunities to live a proficient way that does not only honors God, but shows unbelievers and believers God’s lasting love. Educators are planned professionals motivated on teaching our children. Teachers are also good at helping heal the children, and sometimes it heals ourselves. As we were created in the image of God who is a great teacher, he gives us the capability to heal and teach trust to children and people in the name of Jesus. As being a teacher, I have the exceptional pleasure of touching lives on a profound and personal level. Integrity and dependability are two things that will allow me to assist others through my profession and worshiping our AMAZING GOD!!!!. Integrity Integrity is the excellence of being truthful and obligating strong ethical values. To be ethically standing defines our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. I know that my Jesus, “He never sinned, and he never told a lie.” (1 Peter 2:22). I was created in the image of my savior that spoke truth and kept His word. ...When he tried to ride it he fell over. He kept trying, but he still wasn’t able to ride the bike. Dustin was determined to ride this backwards bike, so he kept practicing. It took him 8 months, riding about 5 minutes a day, to be able to ride 10ft on the bike. He kept practicing and eventually was able to ride long distances. Dustin found while he rode the bike that if any little distraction, like if his phone rang, he would fall off the bike. Dustin’s son, who was 5 at the time, wanted to try riding the backwards bike, so Dustin got a mini backwards bike for him to learn on. What took Dustin months, only took his 5 year old 2 weeks! A year later Dustin decided to go to Amsterdam (bike capital) and try to ride a normal bike. He was unable to do it! It took Dustin 20 minutes to be able to ride a normal bike again. A lesson from this intriguing experiment is while going through this world, we can’t become distracted with our own pleasures or other sinful desires or else we will fall and end up disconnected from our source of power, God. We have to fully surrender to Him, because if we do, He will keep us from doing those things that lure us to...

...will take both easy and difficult courses. How do we tell the difference between the tough and easy? To what might be an easy course to some students could be a difficult one for many other, and vise versa. People have different interests, which make a certain classes easier or harder on them. Who is to decide what classes are the best ones for us to take? It is not always that the difficult classes, or even the easiest classes, are the best for us. The courses that people need to take are the ones that are needed for his or her future. Difficult classes could be best for us, but that all depends on what people need. In the four years that students are in high school or college, there are certain classes that they are required to take. Some of these classes could be difficult on the students, but does that mean they will help the students the most? These courses could benefit the students; as in give them more practice. Then again, the students could take the difficult course and fail. Failing the course could stop them from graduating and moving ahead. It all depends on how well they do; if they pass, they move ahead, but if they do terrible, they fail. The classes they are required to take could be easier on others, given those students an unfair advantage. These courses could make or break them. People could take difficult classes, but that does not necessarily mean they will help them with their future. If students have a certain career choice, it could require them to...

...Green Knight’ ” The cultural values depicted in “Beowulf” and “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” are those of courage, honor, strength and humility among many others. Now, while exploring the ethos of the cultures in these pieces of literature the reader can deduce that each value means something different. What defines courage (and other values) in “Beowulf” differs from the definition of courage in “Sir Gawain” in many ways including the struggles Beowulf himself faced with Grendel, in “Sir Gawain” with the encounter with the lord’s wife, among other events in both poems. To begin with, in “Beowulf” these values are defined through the heroic code, which was held in the Anglo-Saxon culture in which this poem takes place. Beowulf himself is the definition of a “hero”, exemplifying values such as courage and strength. For example, one challenge that Beowulf held was the battle with Grendel. He shows exceptional strength when he is able to rip of Grendel’s arm which we see in the text itself, "The monster's whole body was in pain; a tremendous wound appeared on his shoulder. Sinews split and the bone-lapping’s burst. Beowulf was granted the glory of winning". The ability to cause so much physical pain to a giant monster shows just how powerful and strong Beowulf is. Strength here is sort of defined as physical power and ability rather than spiritual strength and what not. Courage, for example in Beowulf is also defined in this segment of the poem. Beowulf, shows his fearlessness...
