Product Assesment

...PRODUCT ASSESMENT Tiffany Burke Professor Farrar MKT 100 July 28, 2013 Product Assessment Decline stage is defined as the product life-cycle; in which a product’s sales decline to low or negative growth rate in sales. During this stage of any product, sales are diminished and consumers’ taste shifts to a newer or better offering. Eventually what happens is profits fall and it makes not profitable to produce the product anymore. As a number of other companies dominate the market, it becomes increasing difficult for the company in question to maintain its level of sales. This is something in the case of digital music players like the Apple IPod. Profitability will fall, eventually to the point where it is no longer profitable to produce, and production will stop. As a number of companies start to dominate the market, it becomes increasingly difficult for the company in question to maintain its level of sales. Consumer tastes also change, as do new technologies which may make the product become ultimately obsolete (as in the case of CDs and DVDs, and now Blu-Ray).Profitability will fall, eventually to the point where it is no longer profitable to produce, and production will stop. Apple Computer

...Apple Computer: The iPod, the iMac, and the Business Lessons of Closed Systems Steve Jobs has had much to celebrate lately. But the Apple CEO was particularly happy in February 2006 when he announced that the iTunes Music Store had sold its billionth song, to a teenager in Michigan who had bought a copy of Coldplay's "Speed of Sound". That milestone is all the more impressive when you remember that Apple has numerous competitors in the digital music world. Yahoo music Unlimited and the legal incarnation of Napster are gunning iTunes customers. Sony and Samsung are trying to create iPod slayers. And the field is only getting more crowded. By the summer of 2006, Amazon may launch a digital music service with a branded MP3 player, possibly made by Samsung. It is already being referred to in the industry as the iPod. Amazon won’t discuss its plans, over 40 years old it refers to them as "the NPR crowd" who aren’t as likely to own iPods as MySpace users. The more impressive when you remember that Apple has numerous competitors in the digital music Yet Apple's challengers all face the same problem: Job’s company will no doubt dominate the digital music market for years to come. That's because Apple has learned its hard lesson about closed systems. In the microcomputer desktop market, Apple shrank from an industry leader to a Niche player because it designed closed systems with proprietary hardware and software that were often incompatible with thousands of application software...

Apple Inc.

...Jobs had a vision of making Apple Inc. a cultural force through differentiation and style of his products. He was responsible for bringing out those innovative products that we all love: the iPod, iPhone, and iPad. Jobs wanted to reposition the company and take advantage of the consumers who were becoming more tech-friendly and taking on a more digital lifestyle. Apple’s first big move was the iPod. The portable digital music player was the first time that Apple took on another market away from its business core, computers. Right from the start the product was a huge hit. The two factors that made the iPod stand over their competitors were the memory capability and its sleek design. The first iPod could store around 1,000 songs when other MP3 players in the market could only store around an hour of music. The iPod quickly took over the market taking a 70% market share in the MP3 player industry. Another big factor that benefited the iPod was that it worked with both Mac and Windows, the first time Apple released a product that could work with other software apart from theirs. Another huge contributor to the iPod success was iTunes. The iTunes software synchronized your iPod with your computer and it made it easy for the customer to manage their music and quickly add them to their iPod. Along with iTunes came the iTunes music store, “the first legal...

...in many different forms, evolved into unique styles and altered societal behaviors for both the good and the bad. Developments from the phonograph to the radio and now the IPod have made it extremely easy for listeners to become more engaged in their music. Each new development has led society to listen to music in a different way, thus changing the way we perceive music and the role that it plays in our lives. The advent of the technological era in the 1990’s has created a global marketplace where individuals have access to all different kinds of audio files at any time. With the world becoming more and more commercialized, countless numbers of corporations are now involved in the music and recording industries. The largest of them all is Apple. Known as an innovative corporation, Apple has been controlling the way most people listen and interact with the audio world since its creation of the iPod. After the release date of the IPod, November 10, 2001, listening to your favorite music became easier than ever before. The main goal Apple was shooting for when creating the personal digital device was to create an extremely simple user interface and sleek design many users would appreciate. Many people who were walking around with a Walkman, or seemed uninterested in owning a digital MP3 device now own an IPod. The product line has grown so large that businesses and educational institutions accept it as a useful tool. For example, a college student is now able to simply download...

Ipod Case Study

...Name iPod Case Study 1. The convenience of having music anywhere you go was too much of an opportunity to pass up for anybody. What is the first thing you do when you get in your car, turn the radio on! It should be seatbelt but we’re all lying if we said that. The diffusion of the ipod into the market place was based on need to express one’s self according to the case study. With an affordable stylish not to mention functional accessory it was too hard for consumers to pass up. According to CBite 18-2 pg 613 from our book, creating visual magnetism is the first step in this process. Apple did just that with its sleek design and the ability to make it your own by offering free engraving with online purchases. (I know because I did it) The target audience was the early teenager, focusing on finding themselves, becoming individuals. Making it easy to use, simple made it all the easier for young teens to figure out, and once you have them hooked on a product young, you have them forever. According to http://usabilitynotes.typepad.com/usabilitynotes/2009/10/demographics-age-data-for-iphone-and-iphone-touch-users.html iPod touch ownership was highest among the 13-17 years age group (46%) falling sharply after age 25 (23% of ipod touch users were 18-24, 12% were 25-34 and 12% 35-49. After that it's single figures). 2. Psychographics are the attempt to analyze and measure lifestyle. Through this Apple was able to formulate who to target when marketing the iPod. Would it be...

Does Ipod Make You Happy?an Exploration of the Effects of Ipod Ownership on Life Satisfaction

...Does an iPod make you happy? An exploration of the effects of iPod ownership on life satisfaction ANTJE COCKRILL* School of Business and Economics, Haldane Building, Singleton Park, Swansea University, Swansea SA2 8PP, UK ABSTRACT The Apple iPod is currently the undisputed leading product in the global MP3 player market. This competitive advantage is due to the design, high functionality, and perhaps most importantly, the ‘cool factor’ which Apple has managed to obtain with its products. This study explores if owning an iPod (as opposed to another brand of MP3 player) makes a difference in the perception of general life satisfaction. Using Diener et al.’s generic satisfaction with life scale (SWLS) to measure the dependent variable life satisfaction, a model with the key concepts usage, benefits, peer influence, design, iPod phenomenon, and iPod bubble has been developed and tested in a variety of ways, including regression analysis. The sample consisted of a multinational sample of 240+ young adults, aged 18–35 years. The demographic profiles of iPod and non-iPod owners were very similar, but for iPod owners, 23 per cent of the variance in overall life satisfaction is explained by the key concepts used in this research. Key influencing variables for iPod owners are peer influence and design. For non-iPod owners, the amount of variance explained by the independent variables was negligible. iPod owners also considered their MP3 players to be much ‘cooler’ than did non-iPod owners....

..."aahs". Now take the Apple iPod for instance, the undisputed champion of MP3 players. October, 2001 saw the launch of this revolutionary product which took over the world in no time at all. It was then that the "i" era started. Every gadget company in world was convinced that if they put the letter "i" in front of the name, it made the device twice as cool. In these six years that have passed we have seen this 8th wonder of the world, get nothing but better. But somehow making over 110 million people happy is a little too less for Apple. So lets see, what does the iPod (video) still lack; hmmm… maybe the screen size could be bigger. And...Umm… maybe I would like to browse the internet on it! Ooh ohh.. and what about a touch screen interface!! Now wait a minute (it would be cool, if there was a scratch disk sound in the background just as you read this), before we go any further with our "wild" imagination, let me re-introduce to you, and I say "re" because I'm sure you've already heard of the unanimously crowned gadget-god, the iPhone. Whatever one could wish for in a portable gadget has been listened to carefully by our dear dear friends at Apple and has been brought to us in the form of the iPhone. Now I'm not here to tell you about that, not because the iPhone isn't worth talking about but because its old news now, believe me; that's how fast the tech world moves. iPod Touch Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you, iPod Touch. It's...

I Pod as a Social Artifact

...October 2011 The IPods Impact on Society “Design is not just what it looks and feels like. Design is how it works.” (Issacson). This is a famous quote by Steve Jobs. The project was a secret. Other then Steve Jobs and a few other apple executives nobody knew what it was. The code name was P-68 (Knopper). The IPod was introduced to the public in 2001. At first, it was only compatible with Mac computers, but two years later, the iPod could be used with any type of computer. This caused sales to skyrocket! Steve Jobs worked with apple inc. to come up with the IPod. Although Apple was not the first to come up with the idea of an mp3 player, no other mp3 player has ever been as big of a hit. Sony and a few other companies had come up with digital music players a few years prior, but their versions were more expensive and could not hold nearly the amount of songs as the IPod could. The IPod was the first mp3 player to really succeed because people loved the idea. Not only was the IPod a convenient way to store music, It was a social and fashion statement. The IPod changed everything about society. Think about how technology, fashion, and the Internet have changed since the IPod. The ads were genius, making the Garrett 2 IPod an irresistible necessity. Marketing caused the IPod to be “cool” and every one wanted one. The IPod has changed society in more ways then anyone could have imagined, but not all of the changes are positive. The invention of the IPod has led to advances...
