I found a YouTube video titled “energy and Metabolism explained”. The video explains how the body is constantly at work with repairing cells and building new ones. This action requires energy that the body converts from the chemical energy that is stored in our food. Building cells and converting energy from food involve chemical reactions. These chemical reactions are called metabolism. Metabolism is defined as the chemical reactions that happens in all living organisms to sustain life. All living things metabolize. Plants metabolize just as humans do. Therefore all living organisms have energy metabolism cells to sustain life. The more energy the body uses the more it needs to produce and the energy is found in our daily diets.

I found a YouTube video called “Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry”. It explains that there are fundamental laws that govern chemistry. The law of conservation of mass which states total mass of the product equals total mass of reactants. The law of constant composition states the elements combine in the same proportion by mass. The law of multiple proportions states that the mass of one element combined with another bear a ratio to each other. The law of reciprocal proportions states that the ratio of the combining masses of two elements with the third is the same or a whole number ratio multiplied by the original ratio. Gay Lussa’s law states that volumes of reacting gasses bear a single whole number ratio. The sixth law discussed in the video was Avogadros law which states that equal volumes of all gases contain equal number of molecules. Then it explained the atom and molecule. An atom is the smallest particle of an element and also is smallest particle that can enter into chemical combination. A molecule is the smallest particle of a substance that can have an independent existence. It is formed by two or more atoms. Chemical formulas and equations explain the atom and molecule make up and reactions. The mole concept is a measure of concentration of substances in chemistry. All these laws and definitions make up chemistry. Chemistry is the study of the chemical composition and properties of matter and the reactions of that matter. Biology is the study of living organisms. Any living thing has a chemical makeup and follows the laws stated above. Therefore, the study of any living thing involves studying its chemistry which is the relation between chemistry and biology.

Life is the chemical makeup of cells and organelles that are found in living organisms. Living organisms are any makeup of cells which can be human, animal, or plants. The cells reproduce metabolic energy from food. If it is a human or animal it would be daily food ingested. Plants survive from photosynthesis and their food is sunlight. The energy is what sustains the life in the organism. The energy enables the organism to grow, by absorbing the nutrients needed and isolating what is not and then reproducing and evolving.

I found a YouTube video. The video is called “The scientific Method Made Easy”. It mainly goes over the history of where the Scientific method originated from and breaks the procedures of the method down. Galileo made a scientific experimented to test his hypothesis that objects accelerate as they fall. This experiment was made over 400 years ago and replaced Aristotle’s and the Christian churches methods of conclusion, which were discussed and logic, not actually tested. His experiment was known as the enlightenment. The basis of the scientific method is very similar to the basis of the legal system. You must have evidence before having a conclusion. Evidence is not opinion and must be tested with evidence, data and justification just as law. Opinions are not a fact. The scientific method follows steps or procedures called the scientific procedures. First there is a problem, then a hypothesis, then a prediction, the prediction is then tested, if the prediction is incorrect, then the steps start from the beginning with a new hypothesis and start the process all over again. If the prediction was found correct then it is peer reviewed and replicated by other researchers to prove it validation. If all is correct then it is considered a theory which means it has evidence that has proved the theory is fact. The scientific method is a procedure of steps to prove a hypothesis true or false with adequate experiments and data, which if found correct becomes a theory.

I found a YouTube video titled “Cell Structure and Function”. The video explains the importance for biologists to understand the functions and structures of the cell. A cell is the smallest unit of life and the building block of all living organisms. All organs in the human body are made up of tissues and tissue is made up of similar cells that perform the same function. Cells contain molecules such as DNA. There are two types of cells; one is the prokaryotic and the eukaryotic. Prokaryotic are single celled organisms that include bacteria and some aggie. Eukaryotic cells make up more complex organisms like plants and animals. Prokaryotic cells lack a membrane bound nucleus so DNA is in the cytoplasm of the cell. Eukaryotic cells have a membrane bound nucleus which holds the entire DNA in one part of the cell. The video explains that cells are made up of many parts as a city is. These parts in the city are called organelles. One part is the plasma cell membrane which is made up of a phospholipids bilayer. This part of the cell allows molecules in and out of the cell. The mitochondrion of the cell produces the energy for the cell to perform its duties. ATP is the energy currency of the cell. Ribosome’s translate the genetic information or DNA from the nucleus, into useable protein molecules. Proteins do the work in the cell and golgi modifies the proteins. Endoplasmic Reticulum forms an interconnected network of tubules and vesicles and function to transport proteins throughout the cell. The lysosome of the cell is like a trashcan it digests excess or worn out organelles and proteins.

Eukryotic cells make up plans and animals. Both cells are similar but have distinctive differences. Plant cells have a cell wall that surround the cell membrane, and animal cells only have a cell membrane. Plant cells have one large vacuole and animals have a few small ones. The vacuole stores molecules needed by a cell and isolates material that could be harmful to the cell. Plant cells differ from all other cells because they have chloroplast. Chloroplast is the sight of photosynthesis which is the process of capturing sunlight and synthesizing glucose and oxygen from carbon dioxide and water.

The video broke down the cells into a city to better understand how each works with one another to have the cell perform its duties and all organisms living contain cells.
